This is a good entry level laptop for basic school and work needs. It is not that great at multi tasking but i chose it for the bigger screen. Honestly, you can probably find a better product during the sales seasons.

After less than three months of use, my VivoBook's monitor cracked while I was gripping it by the frame to adjust it on the table. Both Best Buy and ASUS have refused to cover the damage, citing it as physical damage caused by my use. I don't know how any manufacturer can claim a laptop cracking because it is handled by the FRAME is the user's fault. Regardless, I will never be purchasing from ASUS again due to the horrifically fragile build of their product and the unsatisfactory warranty coverage.

I purchased the laptop in June 2024. As of January 2025, I sent the laptop twice for repairs twice to the repair team at Best Buy. The first attempt in October 2023 did not fix the issue of the device overheating. The repair team did a factory reset on the device. The issue returned after three months in January 2025. I sent in the device and wait for its return. I will update later.

      Dear ChadT,

      Thank you for your feedback.

We do understand your disappointment and your concern about the thermal issues and glitches you are experiencing on this laptop. It is normal for laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load, like running resource-intensive applications, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While running a resource-intensive application, please ensure no other resource hungry applications are running in the background, this will definitely spike the temperature, or may cause a auto-shutdown. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. To resolve system glitches, or to maintain optimum system stability and performance, ensure Windows, drivers, BIOS and applications are up to date. Updates for this laptop are available for download at:  https://www.asus.com/us/laptops/for-home/vivobook/asus-vivobook-16-oled-m1605/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=M1605YA . Additionally, while accessing web applications, please ensure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will definitely affect system speed and performance. Also, clearing internet cache or browsing history will improve system performance. If these steps were performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.

Reliable, Fast, and Great Value for Everyday Use

I’ve purchased multiple ASUS Vivobook 16 16" FHD+ Laptop (Ryzen, 16GB RAM) for use across my company, and they’ve been consistently solid across the board. Performance has been excellent for everyday business needs—web applications, multitasking, video calls, and general productivity. The 16GB of RAM makes a noticeable difference when running multiple programs at once, and the Ryzen processor keeps everything running smoothly without lag. The larger 16" FHD+ display is a big plus. It gives extra screen real estate without feeling bulky, which makes it ideal for team members who are working in documents, spreadsheets, or browser-heavy environments. From a reliability standpoint, we haven’t had any issues so far. That’s honestly the biggest win—when you’re deploying laptops at scale, you just want them to work without headaches, and these have delivered. Overall, this is a great value laptop that balances performance, screen size, and dependability. I’d absolutely continue purchasing these for business or personal use.

Everything I need: The Ultrabook Killer

For personal use, I have always wanted something a bit more compact which, in the early days, meant Netbooks and, later on, Ultrabooks. I bought this to replace my excellent but aging Huawei Matebook X Pro, which has some minor issues and I am putting it to a different use. I am a big fan of ASUS (most of our 10 home desktop computers have ASUS boards) and was happy to find this laptop here at the same price but with 16gb ram rather just 8gb elsewhere. Glad I grabbed one when I did, as of the time I was writing this a week later, they are sold out. This Vivobook has all of things I love in that device at a third of the price (probably less than that with inflation) of my last 3 Ultrabooks. Those key features are a 16:10 ratio screen, 16GB RAM and a powerful CPU, but I didn't want to pay extra for a mid-high gaming level GPU or touchscreen. That combo has always been a bit challenging to find, particularly that much RAM on a non-gaming laptop. A bonus feature I wasn't necessarily looking for is the 16" screen with a lightweight and reasonably thin body. Also, I'm very glad ASUS chose to have the keyboard backlight stay on all of the time (when toggled on anyway) vs my Matebook, where the backlight turns off after 30 seconds of non-use, forcing you to press a random key to turn it on again. Two minor nitpicks... 1) I typically use compact (~88 key) keyboards, even with my desktop computers. With those, I can find the delete and right arrow keys in the right upper/lower corners without looking. I am adapting to the full-size keyboard, but it reminds me that I do use those two keys A LOT. 2) The finish on this laptop shows the oils from my hands, so I will be wiping it down more often. While I wish this Vivobook came with Windows 11 Pro, at this price-point, I wouldn't expect it to. I immediately did a clean install of Windows 11 Pro (purchased separately) then added the MyAsus software afterwards. (Sidenote: Interesting that, at the ASUS support page for this Vivobook under Operating System, they have "ASUS recommends Windows 11 Pro for business" but don't include it. It has been my experience that businesses typically use Enterprise Edition and Pro is just a way for Microsoft to gouge power-users). I had correctly anticipated that MyAsus had battery management options and I like that it has 3 options. Because I keep it plugged in most of the time, I like to assure the battery isn't getting overcharged, having first discovered that feature with my aforementioned Huawei Matebook X Pro. I wasn't initially very excited about it having a proprietary power plug (and only getting one USB C port), but I don't usually need anything but power anyway. The USB C port does work with a charging port replicator/charging, so I do have that option, when needed. It is cool that it has a 2.0 USB port, which sometimes come in handy, even in 2024. It may also be handy to have an HDMI port on occasion. Overall, a phenomenal value!

I couldn't be happier with this ASUS laptop. It looks sharp in the Indie Black finish, and the build quality feels solid. Performance is top-tier thanks to the 8-core AMD processor, giving me seamless multitasking every day. The touchpad is large and responsive, and the fan stays completely silent during normal workloads. It offers a great screen and excellent battery life without being heavy to carry around. Five stars all the way!

I am very satisfied with my purchase. I got it on sale, and with 1tb of storage i dont have to worry about filling up right away. The processor speed is pretty solid. I hardly see any slow down. Ram speed is great, graphics card is perfect for what i wanted to play. My biggest complaint is the lack of ports for usb C as well as lack of sd card slot. Also the usb - c slot isnt set up for a docking station with dual monitor set up. I really enjoy the size of the screen on the device, makes it easy to do work when i need to work just on the computer

This laptop is great I love the amount of storage and the ram. I'm not a big gamer but I like to play minor games. The ram is great to run them. I love the touchpad it stretches across a good amount of space. The touch ID is also great I can log into my school services just fine. It is great for all my apps I have to download for school such as excell and word. For the price this is a great deal. The storage and ram was everything that I needed in a laptop and it's hard to find at this price. Also, it has a backlit keyboard perfect for when you have to do work in the dark. The battery also lasts for quite a while be depending on what you are running it will run out faster. For instance, when I am playing my games, I just keep it plugged in, and the laptop stays at 100% the whole time so I don't have to worry about it dying mid game.

Got this laptop for my new 9th grade high school student to replace his Chromebook and got heavily discounted at $479 in the Spring 2025. What a deal this is! Was super easy to setup, is fast, has all the ports, relatively light, good battery life. There really is no downside on this. I've read about the fingerprint issues, but have not seen that as an issue with my son's usage. This has to be one of the best values on the market at this level of specs vs. price point. Ryzen 7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 8 cores for ~$500...wow! Great job ASUS and Best Buy!
