Powerful Capabilities at Lower Price-Point
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Vivobook 16” is an excellent laptop, especially at the relatively small price for its strong performance level. It is important to note that the Vivobook series computers come in a couple dozen configurations which will have various CPU’s, memory size and even different screens. This review is specifically for the Vivobook M1603QA-R712512. I’ll refer to its most key specifications in this review. This model has an LED screen that is very bright but not as brilliant as the available OLED screen. However, the excellent configuration of this particular model provides exceptional capabilities that would suffice for many users including me. The keyboard has a very solid feel and extra large characters which make it easy to find the keys for my older eyes. It is not a backlit keyboard, so if that is a must-have for you, then you may want a different Vivobook model. The WiFi has the currently fastest speed and is the top of the line WiFi 6 - 802.11 ax. A few other key features to point out include the super-sized touchpad - great, outstanding speakers for such a small unit, a physical slide to close off the camera that a lot of folks now feel more comfortable with and the easy access for upgrades. I mention the easy access point since some folks will want to move the SSD up from the 512GB and move the RAM up from 12GB to 16GB. The upgrades are simple with this computer as the bottom plate can be removed via 10 screws. A lot of users will want this done by ASUS or other support personnel. This device is one of a dwindling number of laptops that can be very easily upgraded by a user who is skilled in PC hardware installation. This laptop uses integrated graphics versus discrete graphics. Intensive high end gaming would require discrete graphics processing which has its own Graphics Processing Unit with separate memory for its operations. The CPU is the AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS and is an excellent multi-thread processor that contains 8 Cores and 16 Threads. This is a very powerful processor at this price-point. The overall performance of this computer can support mid-range games and also would easily support normal home computing needs for email, web surfing and the creation of spreadsheets, documents and presentations. I tried all these functions and the computer zipped through with flying colors. I also did a color generator test and was very pleased with the color production on this 16” screen which is a little bigger than the standard 15” laptop size – nice. Tip of the cap to the engineers at ASUS for designing a very powerful and functional lower cost machine. A computer this strong at a low price-point is a real find. I would certainly recommend this for home, business and school use.

Great Value per Dollar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Vivobook laptop is a well rounded piece that offers performance at a price friendly point. Rather your looking for on the go content creation or a 30 min run of Call of Duty for some down time, this piece is sure to fit the bill. Specs for the build can easily be found on Best Buy's website so i'm going to jump right in to the real reason why you would want this laptop and that is performance. The Vivobook is a jack of all trades but master of none laptop designed for the on the go young Business person or Student. I say this due to what it offers at its price point. The AMD Ryzen 7 is definitely a step above the Ryzen 5 series which allows for ease of use to be able to handle all your content creative ideas that you wish to produce. This means while streaming rather it be for gaming, design or business content you can easily host with multiple windows open and multiple task on going. While face timing for a business meeting i had, the built in speakers offered great sound quality which made everyones vocals crystal clear and live streaming video offered great color and content allowing everyone to be easily distinguished. But where it really shined was when i had to present a live video content all while going through a power point style presentation at the same time. The Vivobook handled this all with easy at a nice steady 60 frames and load hovering around 40%. By the way the build in discreet forward facing web cam was a very nice feature to have. As far as hardware goes there is enough to do your day to day needs. 512 gigs of SSD storage means that start up is going to be very fast as well as load times however at 500 gigs of storage don't expect to be using this set up as a primary gaming station as memory will fill up fast. Now don't mistake what im saying, just cause this piece is not designed as a primary gaming set up does not mean it can not be used for gaming for some much needed down time. The 12 gigs of RAM along with the dedicated AMD Radeon means that playing titles like God of War or Call of Duty can be achieved at 50 frames on ultra all while looking very stunning on a 16 inch LED display. All in all this is a very well rounded laptop that is meant to fit your day to day life. The Vivobook does allow for additional upgrade to the Ram and SSD so if you wish to take it a step further with upgrades, this can be accomplished with a little bit of know how.

Stylish Laptop That Works In The Right Setting
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whenever I buy a laptop, I usually get one with a particular task in mind. I either want it as a fun family computer, to do either school or business work, or I want it for gaming. With the ASUS Vivobook, I get a laptop that does some of these things well, but lacks being exceptionally great at any of them. When you first set eyes on the laptop, it looks impressive. The smooth, blue, plastic shell looks nice. I do wonder though how it will hold up the appearance over time and whether the exterior will scratch up a bit. The other thing you will notice is it is very thin – a little over three-quarters of an inch thick. However, it can be a bit on the heavier side as it weighs over 4 pounds. This may be an issue if you are carrying this around with you. Once you fire up the laptop, the first thing I noticed is how quiet this machine is. I didn’t notice any noise coming from the system. If there was any, if was drowned out by the normal daily activities around me. The display is a high-definition display, but the specs may be a bit confusing. ASUS lists the resolution at 1920 x 1080 while other documentation has the screen at 1600 x 768. If you go into the display setting in the included Windows 11, the recommended display setting is 1920 x 1200. In any case, the backlit display looks very good and is easy on the eyes. As for the guts of the system, the AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS powers this laptop. This chip is plenty fast for this system with 8 CPU cores and a base clock of 2.8GHz. Coupled with the 512 GB SSD, applications load faster than many systems. Even video creation on the system goes smoothly and quick. The graphics use an AMD Radeon GPU. The graphics are UMA which basically means the GPU uses the system’s RAM as a buffer as it doesn’t have any of its own. With 12GB system memory, this can bog down the system a bit. For this reason, this system is not very good for any kind of serious gaming. If you want to game, I would look elsewhere. The battery for this system is a Lithium-ion polymer battery. The battery life though varies depending on how you use this system. With basic internet browsing and email, I could easily get through an 8–10-hour day. However, if I was heavy into video playback and had multitasking going on, the battery life quickly came down to the 5-6-hour range. Depending on other system parameters, you may be able to tweak this a bit. The system has plenty of ports for connectivity. There are 4 USB ports (1 2.0 Type A, 2, 3.0 Type A, and 1 3.0 Type C). There is also an HDMI port for adding a monitor. There is no Ethernet port, so in the event you want to hardwire the system, you will need an adapter or docking station. However, the system does very well will the wireless connectivity. With Gigabit service, I was getting over 500 Mbps both up and down, so the wireless connection was plenty fast. The system storage is a bit low in my opinion. Depending on your needs, you may want more. If you are looking to do high scale multimedia content or need storage, you may quicky run out. If you rely more on cloud storage and running remote applications, this may suit what you need. Some will find 512 GB enough while others will want more. In the end I was a bit confused by the ASUS Vivobook. It is a very solid laptop. I can see it being good for a college or high school student. I can even see it being good for some business applications. It just felt like a bit of a mismatch to me with some of the components. You get a system with an above average processor, but it is matched with a lower scale graphics system. To me, it felt like I had more power than the graphics could handle. To be economical, I would have liked a better graphics card or not quite as powerful a processor. In the end, I still recommend the ASUS Vivobook. I is a solid laptop that performs exceptionally is the right applications.

Worst computer Ive ever used
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the dumbest laptop I've used. I bought this for school and I can't even download anything for school because the laptop is set to a setting where it only allows Microsoft apps. I tried every possible way to change the setting but couldn't. On top of that the speed and color is terrible, and battery life only last 50-60 minutes. For $500 it's not worth it! My $300 lenovo performed better when I first got it

Based on the issue described, the device has the Windows S Mode Operating System which only allows installing apps and programs from the Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to permanently switch out of S mode. Solid Decent Basic Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you keep your expectations in line for what this Asus laptop is designed for you should be fairly content with buying it. If you expect more from what it's designed for then you'll be sorely let down. That said... If you need a basic laptop that handles the basics then this is your machine. For office work such as working with Word, Power Point, Excel, web browsing, and watching videos this Asus laptop is perfect. It's capable of some light gaming so you can pass the time, just don't expect it to play the latest and greatest titles. I got it to run GTA V, just not very well. If you're more into something like Civ V or VI then you're all set. Build quality is typical for a laptop in this class. Plastic. Lot's of plastic. That being said it has a solid feel that is not anywhere and "clunky" as most portable computers in this class. The keyboard is ok but the extended 10-key is a bit awkward. I was disappointed in the display though. On the Best Buy website the first image shows OLED on the scree. This is NOT an OLED display but rather a plain, older gen, LCD. The display gets plenty bright so it's easy to see in all the lighting conditions I used it in. It's large but a lower resolution than I'm used to. More thanl likely me being spoiled by higher resolution displays. Port selection is plenty for this class. I'd like to see more than one USB-C port but they get the job done. The speakers are better than I expected and good for music or video watching. The incluced charger is a traditional barrel style charger. One thing I don't understand is why don't manufacturers use a USB-C charger on their computers. It's 2023!!! So while the computer itself is not very heavy you have to account for bringing yet another charger on the road with this laptop. I've not used it long enough to speak to battery life but based on my previous experience using laptop with AMD processors I'm confident it will be fine. One huge complaint I have is on the operating system. It ships with 'S-Mode' on right out of the box. You can turn it off but it made the "out of the box" experience less than ideal. It's probably to be expected for the intended customers. If you need a basic laptop for office work and such you cannot got wrong with this one. If you're buying a laptop for a teenager going to school then this is probably the best you. can get in this price range.

Inexpensive laptop that is perfect for long trips
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The vivobook laptop is very suitable for my needs and a great price point for a 16” laptop. Some of the things I like: The size, color (bluish tone) and weight are fantastic and add to the experience when you are on a train or long trips and want to watch a movie or go on the internet. Even though it is mostly plastic it has a great feel as far as the touch pad and keyboard and is responsive with no issues experienced as far as lag or key problems. The 16” screen is a must if you want to reduce eye strain and enjoy the movies, also helps when you multitask. The memory is enough for basic tasks as I believe it is used for both processing and grfx utlilization. Upgradable it limited in that regard. You do have an option to upgrade via a M.2 slot which is not difficult to do. Battery is also fair and not an issue or out of the ordinary Build quality for a machine that is mostly plastic feels excellent and happy with it Negatives: Not a gaming machine! You can enjoy games but don’t expect to get a laptop and play a triple AAA quality game at the highest resolution or without issues lol. It will still play a lot of games very well if you want to use it for that. Limited stock/initial hard drive space so make sure to not store too many pictures or large files on it if possible or just use an external hd as I do. Overall it’s perfect for lightweight tasks and fantastic for travel or to go to a cafe and internet browsing! Not to play games at the best settings though. Also Asus has a reputation of good quality as far as my experience goes and stand behind products if there are issues

Great system with odd omissions
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is evident the bulk of budget building this laptop went directly to the screen. It is bright, vivid and sharp. The colors pop on videos and I haven't had any cases of excessive eye strain. It also lives up to its processing power. Boot/ startup times are snappy. Opening web windows and programs are relatively instant and I have yet to see any program slowdown even under heavy usage. The build feels sturdy. I do like the type/ design of the keys. The print is bold and a bit larger and they are very responsive when rebounding while typing. There are 3 USB ports(with two being SS) and a USB-C post onboard as well. For video out, HDMI with no reference of being able to port out through USB-C. Now, the omissions. No ethernet port. It says stable Master Wifi will create a stable connection, but if there was a option to be wired, that would be my preference, especially since my Wifi can often be finnicky. You most likely can find a hub with ethernet, but more money spent on something that still should be standard. Speaking of standard, there is no backlighting on the keyboard! Once again, not sure of their margin, but this should have been a included in a system like this. Although screen is very bright, watching in the dark absolutely presents a problem in readjusting the eyes. Finally, the speakers are average at best. Being one of the features is ASUS AI for voice noise cancellation, a good set of speakers for playback seems evident. Also, with such a great picture, there would still be a desire to listen to your content at a clear level. Yes, headphones are common, but that shouldn't negate having a more robust sound from the laptop. Beautiful system with odd omissions. If you can get past those, you won't be disappointed. It'll get all your work completed with ease.

Good Large Screen General Use Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used and tested this Vivobook laptop out for a few days now. It very much reminds me of a thicker Windows 11 version of a 15” MacBook. The dark blue color is nice and I can see the keys clearly. The trackpad is very large and smooth and I like the gestures that can be set as well. Very responsive in my use. Wide keyboard with number keys to the right is nice thanks to the 16” display. The display is also very large and quite clear and the colors and contrast is great. I did set my brightness at 70% and the power setting to peak performance (slider all the way to the right). Responsiveness and opening apps seemed very good in all uses. Battery life with this combo paced out at over 7 hours for my use in initial testing. I'm sure I will get much longer life if I dial it back a bit, but this decent at my settings. Most usage was web browsing, email, MS Office apps, and light YouTube watching. Power cord and adapter are fine, nothing too special there. Ports on the laptop are all the main standard ones that you need (and nice not only having USB-C then needing an adapter like some other models). In summary, I think it is a good and light laptop for on the go use. And 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage should be plenty for most general users.
