Im very happy with this computer
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best Buy is usually the only place that we go. Great technology and service, good selections and sales, and repair/setup also very helpful. We will be back. I didn't get my sales slip emailed to me, so would appreciate you resending that...!! I believe his name was Eduardo, or similar...working in the San Marcos office.

WOW! All the necessary equipment for most users.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of my friends asked my husband what he thought about this computer before she bought it. He said he would buy it after looking at the specs and the fact that he has two ASUS computers that have been bullet proof. My friend bought one and we also bought one. After setting it up we feel it is WELL worth the money.

Disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop online with the description of a backlit keyboard, which it didn't have. An associate at BestBuy offered to let me exchange it for a laptop with a backlit keyboard, but all others with similar specs cost twice as much so they laughed (literally) when I suggested it. I agreed to keep the laptop. However, the touchpad was constantly freezing and lagging even with "smart gestures" disabled. Lastly, the screen would almost always go black for a moment when a video would play such as an advertisement that I didn't select. ASUS told me to check all drivers and windows updates, which were all up-to-date (its also a brand new release and manufactured a month before purchase, it would be strange if it wasn't up-to-date). So, ASUS offered no support and told me to exchange the laptop, which I did. When the replacement arrives, I will update this with whether or not the next one is faulty. BestBuy has offered no support outside of the ability to exchange the laptop, and ASUS wasted my time. I don't see myself supporting either company again if this isn't resolved.

Posted .Dear UnhappyConsumer,
The laptop was not advertised having a backlit keyboard. It does cost more for this added feature.
Certainly understand your concern regarding the issue with the touchpad an a website blacking out with an advertisement.
If you are accessing web applications, please verify if the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will affect the responsiveness of the touchpad.
Usually, a random blackscreen while using the laptop occurs if updates are being applied in the System Registry. Or, this can be a website related issue, assuming Windows OS and video driver are up to date.

Great so far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not huge into computers, and I'm not doing anything particularly intense with it. Just some word processing and internet browsing mostly. Great for that so far. Oh, and it can handle a bunch of tabs being open at the same time as a discord video chat, which my Chromebook was having trouble with before.

large inexpensive but with build quality issues
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PC is not optimized to utilize the hardware that is in it. The frame of the PC has a lot of flex and will not withstand much abuse. This has a graphics card but struggles with even older online games. As a word processer, it works ok but freezes when you have multiple windows open. I returned for a better product. We just can't keep living in this disposable product economy, too many resources being depleted and garbage everywhere.

Too many issues for a new laptop
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very happy to get a good deal, at least I thought it was a good deal (17" laptop for $599), but soon realized it wasn't even worth that much. Here are the problems I faced: 1. the screen starts flickering suddenly, goes black altogether, then comes back alive and shows a white window, and finally, shows the content I was viewing, whether it is a news website or youtube video. This should not happen in a new laptop with the latest Windows 10 OS and latest Chrome browser I downloaded. 2. the battery ran down to 10% and provided a notification, and I thought I will have a few minutes, but then very soon, it just crashed -- black screen (nothing on the screen). So I plugged it on, left it to charge for three hours, then tried pushing the Power button to make it start. Nothing happened. Only the tiny lights on the left side of the laptop were lit, and I couldn't figure out what those lights indicate -- didn't have any manual I can refer to determine the various parts of this laptop. After several attempts, I pressed the Power button and kept it pressed for 20 seconds, and then let go. The two tiny light to the left went off -- only then I realized that the machine hadn't turned off completely when I thought it crashed after the battery ran out. Just the screen had lost power. Next, I just pushed the Power button once, and then the laptop came back up. So the 20-second press must have a done a hard shutdown. 3. the battery runs down really fast. I am used to keeping the laptop on for extended periods even if I am not working on them, because after a few minutes of stopping my work, I expect the laptops to go on low power (power saving) mode and save battery life. This is what my other laptops do (office and personal). But the new Asus VivoBook doesn't seem to last much at all. Right after the battery is fully charged, it tells me it has 6 hours of battery life, but I can't even work on it intermittently for a total of three hours before the battery needs charging again. 3. websites don't load smoothly at least 50% of the time. It keeps "waiting for a response" with a circular motion of a graphic that shows it is still working on resolving the link or getting data, and finally throws an error message. It says it cannot reach the page even though it is a very normal youtube main page -- also, I have verified that it is not my network at home by reaching the same website and getting it to load on my old 4GB RAM laptop and an office Apple Mac machine. Both machines have no issues, but a new 12 GB machine is having problems loading. I didn't have much else running on my new laptop either. This happens both with Chrome and Edge browsers. Something is really wrong! 4. I also have issues intermittently when my cursor won't move. I checked the sensitivity setting of the trackpad and made it more sensitive (one level less than the most sensitive) and it still seems to not move when I try to move at times. And most of the time, all the movements I perform in trying to make it move once get implemented all at once and then the Window itself gets closed. In other words, all the movements are being saved in the buffer somewhere and then all of them suddenly get issued while I initially don't detect any response and then encounter movements that I don't want but had to perform just to make the cursor move. This happens with both Chrome and Edge browsers. I finally returned the laptop to BestBuy. Sorry it didn't work out, but I wish Asus luck in the future. Please have better quality control to check the laptops before shipping it out. I bought a new laptop (not refurbished, at least in theory).

Posted .Dear DataEngineer,
Do understand your disappointment if you are experiencing issues with the laptop.
Certainly, the laptop was designed to run popular computing applications without compromising system stability and performance. These issues are temporary during the initial WINDOWS setup and before installing cumulative WINDOWS Update, regardless what brand name of computer this may be. This may take a longer time depending on the network traffic from the update server and the stability of your high-speed internet service. Also, laptop will do several system reboot, black screen temporarily or restart during the update process and touchpad becomes unresponsive.
Once initial setup and WINDOWS Update installation completed, system stability and performance, and power management services will be optimized. In order to maintain optimum system stability and performance, cumulative WINDOWS Update needs to be installed periodically.
If you are accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system stability and performance.

For the price it's great
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer definitely can handle multitasking, the SSD makes boot up take less the 5 secs, the screen is a little dim but you can set it to vivid mode and it will get noticeably brighter. All in all I say this was a great pick up at the price point.
