For a fair price, I got a great laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The day after Black Friday, 2017, I bought a new Asus X541 Notebook at Best Buy for $279.00. It has adequate speed produced by a Intel Pentium Quad-Core processor, and features a 15.6" screen, a DVD burner/player and 4GB memory and a 500GB hard drive. Also, a HDMI port is provided, as well as one 3.0 USB port and one 2.0 USB port. After putting the laptop through its paces for the past couple of days, I must say that I feel as if I got a good deal on a quality laptop.

Asus X541NA-PD1003Y
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.17DEC2017. Worst computer purchase since 1992 and DOS 3.0. Bought this ASUS X541NA-PD10003Y for my Mother a week ago, she is not a power user like I am. Within 24 hours the Wi-Fi disconnected twice (Win10 Wi-Fi set to Wi-Fi Performance, Sleep/Hibernate disabled). I uninstalled the network controller, rebooted, let Win10 reinstall it, downloaded and installed Network Drivers from ASUS website, Wi-Fi still randomly disconnects (never seen this on any priced system). Chatted with ASUS online, no resolution, they said likely a bad computer (hardware rarely fails, except hard drives, I suspect their drivers are poorly coded). Today, 17DEC2017, we noticed that when running on battery only and moving the screen slightly, the computer shutdown completely despite a full battery charge (imagine working on a long document which had not been saved!..total loss of data!!!, unacceptable!). Seems that when on battery power, the device loses connection to the battery. Returning this garbage computer today, to Best Buy to exchange for an HP with an Intel Gen7/I5 processor, double the HD at 1TB and double the RAM at 8GB for only $150 more. Wasted 2 days installing MS Office, Adobe CC, and other software I install on all systems. I am using Acronis software to backup the entire drive including the Master Book Record (including Win10 and all software data installed, will reduce my setup of the replacement system from 2 days to about 2 hours.

basic burner box
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.basic burner box, good enough for internet surfing, email and office suite, personal photo editing, solitaire, candy crush and other gaming that's not too demanding and whatever basic stuff you'd do with a basic laptop. when the hdd fails you can shop the specials and get a new one for cheaper than it takes to repair it. just keep your important stuff backed up somewhere else and you'll be ok. donate the bricked one to pcs for people (https://pcsforpeople.com/) or somewhere like that and take a tax writeoff. think of it like a long-term rental and you'll be fine.

I would give it 0 stars if I could
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most worthless product I’ve ever bought from Best Buy, I understand it was cheap but I still expected it to atleast work without freezing up because it can’t handle more than two tabs open at a time. It’s so slow it’ll freeze in the middle of you typing a paper. (To the point now I usually go to the university library and rent one of theirs) Takes 3 billion years to open up anything on this. I feel like I’m back in the 90s, I can literally hear the processor and hard drive struggling to function at a reasonable speed. I would’ve taken it back if I didn’t get it as a gift, I made a point to download antivirus on it and everything to protect it but it’s worthless. Once I have enough money saved up to buy a different one I’m chucking this P O S off a balcony. Save your money, buy something better quality.

Extremely Poor product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A one star rating is generous. After one week this computer began randomly shutting off as well as freezing. It got to the point that every time I ran up the computer it would almost immediately shut down again, even on full charge. Went back to store and exchanged for another one and within two days the replacement began shutting down randomly also. Furthermore, the second one has began making horrible buzzing noises. Going to be taking this one back also and getting a refund. It was my hope that I had just gotten a random lemon with the first one but the second one is just as horrible. I do not recommend this computer to anyone as it is nothing but a complete waste of time and money.

I got what I paid for.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer because it was inexpensive and it had overall good reviews. I just wanted a simple computer for very basic web browsing and word processing. Here was my experience and my advice to you: 1) It was slow. I went through and disabled all the bloatware that came installed on the product, but the computer was still running out of resources just running the operating system. It was literally running 100% CPU and 100% Disk Usage. 2) It makes a terrible noise. It sounded like a it had a little engine inside it. That just made me nervous about the longevity of the product. 3) Cheap construction. It's hard to describe, but you'll know what I mean if you decided to purchase it. It just feels like it had low quality components . 4) Every finger print shows. To be fair, I would have kept the computer if this was the main problem. It was really just the straw that broke the camels back. After the first day, I had finger prints showing all over the lid. It just made it look dirty. I read some of these points from other reviews but decided to purchase it anyway. I'm not sorry I purchased it, because now I feel better about spending a little more on something that will last me longer. My advice to you if you really want to buy it is to buy from a store that you know will accept a return, and save all the packaging and your receipt for a while. That way you can evaluate it for yourself and make your own decision without the risk of being stuck with a bad product. I hope this review helps.

DIED AFTER 5 DAYS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this as a gift for a friend. I spent 5 days getting her old computer data transferred. On day 5, i rebooted it one last time, then shut it down. That was it, it wouldn't restart again. Not on battery, not on power. DEAD! We are taking it back tomorrow and will get a full refund. Next time I will buy the HP that I was looking at first. You get what you pay for. Cheap junk!

Completely froze during first time use!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to do a data transfer from my old laptop to a new laptop. My old laptop was a HP and honestly, it worked really well! Unfortunately, it fell off of my couch, causing the hard drive to not function properly. When choosing a new laptop I asked for one that was either the same quality of my old one or better. That is when they recommended the Asus. When I picked it up last night I charged it overnight and used it the next morning (this morning.) My first step was backing up my photos that they were able to save from my broken hard drive. They are still being uploaded to google photos and I started the back up at 8am (it is now 1:19pm) Figuring that may take a while I decided to install windows. Big mistake!!! Apparently the computer cannot multitask as it is completely frozen besides the pictures still backing up (I'm confused!)...After my photos backup I am returning this to the store. Everything I tried to do with this laptop either froze for a few minutes saying 'Not Responding' or did not work at all. I was hoping to be able to print out a few things for a Christmas gift, but it looks like that idea is out the window! I haven't even had it for 24 hours...Very disappointed...

Super for price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not sure why there are so many negative comments. I have had no problems. I am actually very surprised just how good this machine is. The Windows updates took about 20 minutes, and my the Office Professional Suite I uploaded took 15 minutes. I have no problem with the power switch or anything at all. As for the DVD software not being included, yes that is idiotic. But I got a DVD app for $7.99. . No, this machine will not perform like a $1200 computer, but honestly, it's pretty close. If you do what I do--download and watch videos, collect images, and do college work through a Suite program--the computer works just fine. This is a very good deal, and ASUS ranks as one of the better computer companies out there.

Not Worth It

Does everything I bought it for just fine.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Windows 10 updates takes hours to download and install the first time on ANY pc so just expect it. You can still use the desktop while it’s in progress though. Download free apps of ccleaner to clean up all the “bloatware” you don’t need and VLC to play dvds. Video card works just fine for Roblox and Minecraft which is the main things my kid plays and the reason why I bought her this laptop. Netflix app works great too. I’ve had great luck with ASUS products, and so far this one too has exceeded my expectations, especially for the low price.

very slow
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.before purchasing this today, I did some research read reviews. but neglected to check what kind of ghz the computer uses, it only uses 2.4 ghz network. I has 200 mbs wifi with 2.4 and 5 ghz available network and it speedtests at 33 mbs which is awful. besides the wifi capabilities the browser and ap download is super slow aswell. I would not recommend this computer to anyone I know!

Slowly Taking My Sanity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know you get what you pay for, but I never expected a brand new laptop to be as slow as the one I was replacing (for that very reason). If you want to do things quickly, I wouldn't recommend this laptop. Looks nice and has surprisingly good speaker output, but it pretty much stops there. Best Buy was wonderful in regards to their part, though (super fast 1-day shipping).

Computer died the 3rd day
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Asus - VivoBook Max X541NA on sale for $229.00. The computer is sufficient enough to run Microsoft Office, and watch Youtube videos. The audio coming from the speakers sounds pretty good. Unfortunately, the computer died on the 3rd day, it wouldn't power back on so I'm returning it for a different brand, probably spend more money for a better quality.

a waste of time to purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had bought this laptop becausese of the storage and was advised by the Best Buy employee. 4 days later the laptop would not come on at all. So i had to take time away from work and drive the 1 hour to go to Best Buy, and of course it turned on the next morning but still would turn off. Mind you that its been charging all day the day before. So i took it back and the Reps at the customer services says, "Oh yeah, this is happens to these ASUS brand".. wth.. why dont you tell your customers that from the very beginning. I returned it and went to a Lenovo, and works great. The purchase was a hassle, as i had to unistall the Microsoft i had bought because of this problem.

JUNK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this since my Dell finally died and according to Best Buy, Dell no longer builds laptops in the $500-$600 range. I'm not convinced the associate knows what he is talking about since we just bought one for our grandson a month earlier. This ASUS does everything in slow motion and locks up regularly. Once it does, you are unable to restart, move the cursor, or to just shut it off. When you are finally able to do something with it MUCH later, you'll find that some of the info you loaded are gone. I use mine mostly to order gun parts, auto parts, and other stuff along with checking email so it's not critical. However if you are planning to use this for school or business, buy something else. You will get so frustrated that it will affect your grades. Best Buy needs to quit selling this junk. It does not earn even one star. For your info mine is two months old. I should have returned it while I could. Again, this unit is JUNK. You have been warned.
