Best buy hired fedex to deliver this, without any insurance on that. Fedex just throw it on the mailroom and let it be stolen. Then fedex claimed it’s not their fault, and best buy asked to to talk with police and not their fault.

ASUS did a lot right with the Vivobook S 14. I'm absolutely in love with the keyboard, which is fully controlled by Windows Dynamic Lighting and has no need for some special RGB control software. The screen is a pretty good one. The performance was stunningly good - despite only having an integrated Intel Arc 130V with a mere 128MB of dedicated VRAM and the rest of the 8GB being shared memory, it's been able to handle titles such as Borderlands 2 on max graphics and run modded Minecraft perfectly fine. This machine is an excellent all-rounder: it's good for light gaming, watching videos, productivity, and it's really portable as well. It's very lightweight yet sturdy enough I feel it's trustworthy in my bag, and it seems to do perfectly fine with a compact 65W USB C charger. Honestly, I don't even care about the Copilot+ functionality or the existence of the NPU or any of that, I'm just blown away by how well it runs. That being said, there's a few caveats. The keyboard backlight is not as bright as I'd like it to be. The body is an absolute fingerprint magnet. There have been many times where I've experienced driver issues; such as the computer stating that the original charger that came with it had too low wattage and wasn't factory, or all those times the Bluetooth driver has just flat out died. Thankfully, all of these issues have been resolved by a reboot, and the reboot process is pretty quick, but that's more instability right out of the box than I would really like. Overall, I really love this machine. I would absolutely recommend it, despite the issues - they're minor enough, and I believe they could be resolved by updates. If you tend to use your laptop pretty heavily but don't want to bring a gaming laptop everywhere or would like a lighter one for use in bed or on planes, this machine is for you.

Summary: The ASUS - Vivobook S 14 is all about the OLED screen. It’s as good (vivid color) as you will get on a machine of this price. The rest is well rounded for a sleek on the go experience that gets the job done and allows for some light gaming while planning for that AI future. Pros: - 1920x1200 OLED 600 nits monitor for bright vivid colors and black blacks. - Great battery performance for all day work (if it’s not too video demanding) - Can be used for light content creation. - Designed for future AI work with neural processing unit and includes a co-pilot button. - Decent performance for casual gaming (when hooked to power). - Backlit, easy to type keyboard. - Solid and sleek metal build that feels premium and robust. Easy to carry, light. - Decent 1080 p webcam with privacy cover. - Plenty of useful ports, HDMI 2.1, 2 x Thunderbolt 4, 2 x USB A, mini SD card slot, headphone jack. - Wi-Fi 7 A Matter of Taste: - 16 gb DDR5 Ram, fast and enough for most applications. - 512 gb SSD Storage. Most will want some external storage. - 60 hz screen, gamers will want 120 and that’s becoming more standard on LCD screens. - ‘Neutral Black’ build will attract fingerprints. - Not a touch screen and does not have a fingerprint reader. - Middle of the road size trackpad, requires a firm click. - 8 cores and Intel Arc graphics. Cons: - Not all the AI features have been implemented yet, pending free software updates. More Words: The ASUS - Vivobook S 14 lives up to ASUS tradition. I like ASUS computers, they are well thought out, sturdy, sleek in that minimalist way, and deliver value. They also have well defined targets; in this case the OLED screen is calling all those that value a visual experience. They don’t skimp out on the ports, all high quality and state of the art. It even has Wi-Fi 7, which is cutting edge. The battery life is great with a power sipping Intel Core Ultra 5 processor. The budget compromises are not hidden, allowing one to compensate in a variety of ways. The on-board Intel Arc graphics is fine for displaying your photographs on that beautiful screen, playing movies and playing basic games. I get a good 60 fps on games that were popular years ago, but for more recent games I have to turn down the graphics settings. So, let’s talk storage. The best that can be said is it is fast. If all you plan on doing is web browsing, report writing, and you tube viewing, 512 gb is fine. But if you are a gamer, or content producer, 512 gb isn’t going to cut it and you will need to carry around external storage. Fortunately, it has two fast Thunderbolt 4 ports so you will have a lot of external SSD options that will be almost as fast as if it was dedicated on board storage. What about AI? AI is the marketing buzzword of the year; the reality is we don’t know where this is going. On board neural processing (which this has) is the way to go, but will 16 gb ram be enough? For now, yes. We are waiting for software updates to fully deliver on Co-Pilot, so this is a buy for what it is, not for what it promises thing. The good news is it does seem to have the right hardware for the future. The bad news is you are paying for some of that now. So, who is this for? An ‘on the go’ person (student, writer, photographer, traveller) will value the beautiful screen, the light weight, and decent battery life that is packaged in a sturdy minimalist sleek design. The ASUS - Vivobook is meant to travel while keeping its eye on your budget. Yes, you can do casual gaming on it, but it is about being productivity balanced. As such I give it 5 stars. If you don’t plan to carry it around, or you’re not interested in the AI assists, and you don’t want an OLED screen, then it’s probably 4 stars and there are other ASUS computers for you.

AI Productivity Capability & Wonderful OLED Screen

This laptop is a marvel. Indeed it can upgrade you into the newest world of AI enhanced processing. Here’s some insights as far as its Intel Ultra processor. It does have openGL for enhanced creation of 2D and 3D images and a lot more – basically a programmer can talk to the GPU. The Ultras have a smaller physical footprint which means less power needs and more compact designs. Yes, these chips are fast. So the net is you are getting the latest technology in this small and thin beast. The OLED screen is heaven, it is gorgeous and you will see the difference easily between this screen and the earlier technologies. I ran a color generator side by side on two laptops and the images and the colors ‘burst out’ on the OLED screen as much brighter and more refined – wow, great for gamers and designers too. This laptop has a dedicated Copilot key. It can operate in the 40 TOPS range ( Trillions of Operations per Second), which will let this small laptop handle some of the newest AI productivity algorithms. I have had dozens of laptops but this ASUS unit has given me access to a much broader use of AI. A brief summary of what this means is that you can get AI assists and use new apps when writing a document, designing a presentation, writing emails, you can actually search inside your own notes from class, you can even generate 'images' from your own input. The point here is these capabilities are all optimized within the specifications of this laptop which provides the ability to utilize computer processing in the most advanced ways today – tip of the cap to the ASUS engineers for moving forward in a leap. Now I can take advantage of programs that can take say podcasts or any online videos, PDF’s, news articles, even blogs and more information then integrate all this stuff into a knowledge base for me – nice. This laptop is under three pounds. It has backlit keys, the feel of the keys is very precise and comfortable; I'd say for me the keyboard is optimal. It has super-fast WiFi. ASUS tossed in Intel ARC Graphics which can optimize your gaming, content creation and more. Plus the audio is a blast with Harmon Kardon technology and provides the best speaker output I have ever heard in a laptop - wonderful. The shutdown and IPL for this laptop only takes a few seconds, another upgrade for me. I highly recommend this laptop for its price-performance, technology, lower weight and small form factor. It has outstanding design points. Now I have learned more of the AI productivity world with a laptop that is helping me.

Perfect balance of power and performance

This notebook computer is a perfect balance of power and performance. I have been testing this computer for several weeks and the performance is amazing. All the small details are perfected, for example the RGB lighted keyboard with the large clear letters on the key caps also has a very nice touch when typing. The display is bright and vibrant, its 2k resolution looks better that my 4k attached monitor. It has enough ports, HDMI, two Thunderbolt 4, two high speed USB A, one SD card slot, and an audio port. The network speed is incredible. I went to my socials and the multimedia streaming was instantaneous at a very high quality. Every application came up quickly and I experience no lag time. I recently had taken a great deal of 4k video on my cellphone and video camera and needed to edit them, so I used the included Microsoft Clipchamp video editing application. This computer made it easy to work with and edit these videos. The videos rendered in 4k at about double speed which is amazing considered the added effects. Microsoft CoPilot is an interesting addition, there is a dedicated CoPilot key. CoPilot is an AI companion that is being added into the entire Microsoft ecosystem. CoPilot lets you have conversational interactions with the computer, and it returns results in a conversational style. For example, I asked CoPilot about some recent news stories, and it returned the information in a conversational rather than journalistic style. CoPilot also seems to be learning about you as you compute and then anticipate and adapt it responses and content to what it thinks you want to see. I am a computer programmer so I asked CoPilot to write some programs, and it came back with code that was 90% complete, good style, and a complete schema, but a programmer would still need to edit some of the code to make it work. It was a good start and would same a developer many hours of hand programming. I asked CoPilot how our local football team did today, and it came back with information about the game and also included footnotes and links to the source of the information. CoPilot then asked me if I was a fan and struck up a conversation about the team. It was a very informed conversation. This notebook is the best computer I have used, it has the power and performance to keep up with the speed of my life.

    A Fine, Useful Smaller Laptop

The Asus Q423 laptop is a more-than-adequate laptop. While issues of screen size and keyboard feel are highly personal, I found both to be terrific. Its compact size fits most situations (and backpacks, briefcases, etc.) and made it a fine traveling tool. I loved the keyboard’s tactile responsiveness. Upon opening the device, one senses that this is a well-made laptop, sturdy and solid. I am not a power user, but I found the battery life to be great. The screen resolution at 1920 x 1200 is far from the best, but I found the display clear, crisp and more than adequate for routine use. Users who work with high-intensity graphics likely will need something else, but I was than pleased. As with other personal choices, I found the mousepad to be large and easy to use, once I took advantage of Windows Settings. Of course, the computer is loaded with AI features that are easily accessible and fun/functional. “Easter Eggs” abound especially with customizable lighting for the backlit keyboard. The one disappointment was the lack of a touchscreen. While the mousepad interface is fine, and using an external mouse is even better for me, the lack of a touchscreen could be a deal-breaker for other users. Overall, a fine much-more-than-basic laptop with nice features.

What qualifies as an ultrathin? If the Asus Vivobook S 14 qualifies as such, it's one awesome ultrathin with an amazing screen. The first question you have to ask yourself when purchasing a laptop is what are you purchasing it for? If you aren't purchasing it for gaming, the Asus Vivobook S 14 might be the laptop for you. First things first, this 14' screen is gorgeous! Sure, it's not a full 1440p, but again, if you're not looking to game, it will more than work. The blacks produced by the OLED screen are next level. The design is smooth, but beware, any moisture on you fingers/hands will leave a print, which is too bad because the "neutral black" colorway is nice. The port selection is solid for something as thin as it is, 2 USB Cs, 2 USB As, an HDMI 2.1 port, a headphone jack (for those who still think those are necessary). The 512 gig HD more than enough space for the average person. The feel of the keyboard when typing feels awesome. The touchpad is large and smooth, but not too large that it gets in the way of typing. The speakers? Nice. The laptop has the Harman Kardon label and the audio quality lives up to the reputation whether streaming videos or music. Whether going back to school, looking to do some light work, streaming content, or simply browsing the web, the ASUS Vivobook S 14 is a stylish, solid laptop that can get the job done. While the Intel Arc GPU may not be enough to run Cyberpunk with ray-tracing, the Core Ultra 5 Series 2 is more than enough for everyone else.

This package arrived in a timely manner and nicely and safely packaged. The number one thing I noticed right out of the box is just how lightweight this laptop really is. It makes it very easy to move from desk to desk or room to room. It’s very nice since any more these days, we don’t seem to stay in one room for too long! When I first opened the laptop, the second nice feature is that the keys seem to have a larger font letter which makes it nice. One may not have to grab their reading glasses every time they want to type something in the search bar. With it being 2024, I would wish that the laptop would come with touchscreen technology and the ability to fold the top over. This would make reading in bed or the comfy spot on the sofa that much more comfortable. Setting up the laptop was very easy. Accessing Outlook was a breeze and the multiple ways to login make it convenient as well for those that seem to forget passwords. Overall, I very much recommend this laptop. It would be great for a student in high school, even freshman year of college. Good bang for your buck.

Finally, a laptop I can use as my daily driver with all the connection ports one could possibly need! I have owned many many high end Ultrabooks in my career and all of them, while good in their own ways, always had the same issue – not enough ports for todays demanding needs of conferences, meetings and traveling. This laptop has solved all my needs without the need of taking along a port dongle to connect to various devices. HDMI, 2 USB A, 2 thunderbolt USB-C, an SD card reader, microphone/headphone jack. The OLED screen delivers famously and the colors and deep black contrasts are simply stellar. The storage of 512GB and 16 GB RAM coupled with the Intel Core Ultra 5 processor make this a perfect compilation. As I love to take landscape photographs, I keep a portable hard drive handy at home to offload my large picture database so as not to take up space on this ASUS laptop. The design of the stated “neutral black” is appealing for me and be warned that it does attract fingerprints quite considerably. This does not bother me at all as a quick wipe with a good microfiber cloth takes care of the issue. The Harmon Kardon speakers were a nice surprise and music, online meetings, and videos all sounder well balanced without a thin sound. The AI copilot button is clearly in it’s infancy as it does not do terribly much at this time – with time, I am guessing more functionality will come but it seems more of a gimmick at this time. To be noted, this is not an ASUS dilemma but one across all brands that have copilot. It is clearly an emerging field, one to be excited about for the future updates. And lastly, but very important to me – the battery life – simply unbelievable! There are days I am on this machine for 8 straight hours doing numerous tasks and at end of day, still have over 50% battery life. Quite amazing actually. I cannot imagine one not taking a liking to this machine with all that it has to offer. Well done ASUS!
