Great, small, fast laptop

I ended up upgrading the NVME inside, which was very easy to do. We had a few issues at the beginning with the laptop not waking properly, but after messing around with the power settings, things are working as expected. It mostly gets used for basic productivity items however occasionally gets used for Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Been great under both circumstances. Definitely a good value if caught on sale. We went with the open box and it was essentially brand new so we were able to save a little more there as well.

I bought because I really needed it for the school. I knew the keyboard lights and the screen it didn’t have the best lighting but it was “cheap” and I thought it would last long. Worked fine for a couple of months (3months I think) before it start to act up. It would random shut down and freeze. Just spend more money if you really want the laptop to last.

It’s easily the lightest thing out there and has enough horsepower to contend with the more premium laptops, not to mention the great build quality that’s uncommon at this price. Keyboard is great, you’ll either love it or hate it from the hinge that boosts it up. Screen is gorgeous and the only knock is it’s not top of the line bright, but it extremely color accurate and vivid. Sound is what you’d expect at this price, not terrible but not Macbook. Overall I’d highly recommend this to anyone searching for a windows laptop. I unfortunately got burned by an open box (shame on whoever returned it after doing their own drop testing on it) and had to return post haste.

Problems galore

The screen is pretty nice, but that's where it ends. I had numerous problems in the first few days before returning this: - Bezel near the camera separating and no amount of pressing on it would get the bezel to "stick" back the way it should - Keyboard backlight would not come on randomly no matter what I did - When keyboard backlight was on, it was useless and you couldn't see the keys - Randomly the keyboard would get locked out and just not work until I powered down then back on - The fan goes insane when this laptop wakes from sleep/hibernate. Apparently fixed by disabling the ASUS software but... I shouldn't have to do this. This is an awful laptop and if you search you'll see all of these problems aren't uncommon. Will never buy an ASUS laptop again.

Certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused you.
All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, the bezel separating is a random problem. Normally, ASUS provides one year warranty coverage, if product was purchased brand-new, in order to fix or repair any hardware or, part that stop working prematurely under normal usage.
Regarding the backlit keyboard, it is recommended to turn it off or adjust the keyboard brightness level while working in a well illuminated workspace. It may beame unresponsive while updates are being downloaded and installed, or while updates are being applied into the System Registry. Also, accessing web applications with poor or unstable internet connection or service will cause issues with the keyboard.
It is normal for the fan to spin at full-throttle and generates noise louder than normal while the laptop is under heavy load, especially during the initial WINDOWS setup and WINDOWS Update installation. Also, the fan noise will be louder while antivirus software or malware are running continuously in the background. Please make sure the system was not compromise by viruses or malware. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle and noise will be louder than normal. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.

Unfortunately it's getting old, and doesn't have a camera, which I need for zoom meetings! Didn't know much about laptops but, knew they didn't have a raised keyboard. I've had good service from the Reps with my desktop computer repairs and also with the purchase of my Apple Watch. So, I made an appointment to speak to a Rep about a laptop...told him concerns.. he showed me a variety of laptops on display. I was impressed with the ASUS Zenbook, so made the purchase. I really like this laptop. The keys are smooth and I can type just as fast on this as I do on my desktop computer (YAY!) It's easy to access Zoom meetings and meets my expectations for word processing (Excel/MS Word).

Thin and portable even the charger is small. Speakers are not that good .. display is Pretty good. For the price can't beat it.
