I don't know why I thought now a days all these new computers come with a cd drive, cd player. This one does not. I like how smooth it is.

We do understand your concern about the fan noise.
It is normal, just like any other brand with the same hardware configuration, for the fan to spin at full-throttle and generates noise louder than normal while the laptop is under heavy load, especially during the initial WINDOWS setup and WINDOWS Update installation. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle and noise will be louder than normal. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.

The letters, numbers and the rest barely show up. With the backlight, you don't see much better unless you look directly down or have the laptop tilted toward you at least 30 degrees. If it is away from you flat, the lighting is mostly around the keys not very bright on them. I decided to print a label for each key. It's far from perfect but at least I can now use my expensive laptop. Other than this, the Asus is performing much better than my previous laptops.

Look Elsewhere for a Better Product

Two Geek Squad techs could not get it to work, and it was "admitted" for shipping out for repair. Mysteriously, it came to life on its own; and they said there was no justifiable reason to send it out for repair. So I retrieved it. Within a few days, the screen failed again. That was enough for me. I asked for and received a store credit and bought a Lenovo.

Do not buy for video editing!

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.If you need a laptop to do anything besides video editing, high resolution gaming, or even photo editing (screen brightness is terrible) then I recommend this laptop. On the other hand if you need a laptop to do the 3 things I just mentioned then please do not buy this laptop. The 6 core CPU, 8 GB of ram, 2GB of VRAM, and the 256 GB SSD are very slow and not enough. I gave this laptop 2 out of 5 stars because it can do everyday tasks specially office work but it is just too slow.

Very disappointed

But the most basic game makes it too hot is an insult with the hardware it has, also if you activate the Nvidia card it will still get too hot, very disappointed!

Premium quality Ryzen based laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been wanting a Ryzen based laptop for a while now so I'm happy to see Asus offering more of them these days. The build quality of this Zenbook feels very premium. The body is all metal with the exception of the screen bezel. Mine is listed as light grey but I would say its more of a medium gray and looks very slick. Its overall width and length is right on par with other 14" laptops but just a bit thinner than the average. Overall I was impressed with how quick this laptop is. The Ryzen 5 mobile processor provides 6 cores, 12 hyper-threaded and has no issues keeping up with me. Windows ran very smooth and applications launch/run smooth. It only has 8gb of ram instead of the preferred 16 but honestly I have had no issues with this and typically still have 50% ram unused when in use. Keep in mind at this price point and specs this laptop falls in mid-range territory. This specific model has 2 GPUs, the built in AMD Radeon and a added Nvidia MX450 which is going to allow for more gaming options if you decide to use this for some light gaming. The full HD matte screen is ok. It provides 1080 resolution but I feel like the brightness level could be better. I have to keep the brightness towards full most of the time. Note its not touch screen which might turn some people off but I don't mind. For storage it contains a 256GB M.2 SSD which is large enough for day to day application. If your storing large amounts of data you will want to go a bit bigger. Typing on the keyboard feels good and the layout is easy to work with. It has a backlit keyboard which is a must for me and includes three brightness levels. The touch pad is a nice size too. I would say the sound is a bit better than what you would get on a typical 14" laptop. Not great but better than expected. Fan noise is minimal. The once or twice I was able to actually get it to kick on I could barely hear it. Below is a list of ports it comes with on each side. 1 usb-a 2 usb-c <--also for charging 1 hdmi microsd card reader headphone jack Overall its a solid little laptop and I really enjoy using it. Its a quality mid-ranger that has no problem getting the job done.

Decent laptop
