Customers appreciate the Zenbook 14" Laptop for its great value, lightweight design, long battery life, comfortable keyboard, and reliable performance. It is suitable for general productivity, light gaming, and college courses. On the downside, some users have concerns about the limited RAM upgradability, occasional heating issues, limited number of USB ports, small storage capacity, and fan noise.

If i could give this purchase a -5 stars I would. Purchased this laptop from the Bestbuy Outlet in Moreno Valley, CA. I was excited about the purchase especially because of the price I was able to get it at. On the website, it was being sold as a "Like New Condition" so I felt like I wasn't going to have any problems. Picked it up from the store and brought it home only to find out that the laptop was completely dead. Not just battery dead, I mean dead as in the laptop didn't even have an OS installed. If you're a pc person, I'm sure you're familiar with the "Blue Screen of Death." I was so bummed. Called Geek Squad and dropped it off to them the very same day. Got a phone call 2 days later and was told that the laptop had a faulty drive and battery wasn't holding charge.

Purchase laptop that was "open-box" and salesperson insured no issues or previously loaded information on it. I was unable to load software as another person's personal data was associated with the laptop. Had to return to store. Extremely unsatisfying when you ask all the questions and lied to.

Wow! So, when I bought the computer I was excited to try a new brand. Acted kinda weird (with screen updates that were not Windows based) and was super hot when charging but let it go. Today, 29 days after purchase it was completely dead with a full charge and with charger plugged in. Returned it to Best Buy and after the 15 minute drive it was so hot the customer service rep was concerned as well. I want to thank the rep and the manager at PA Best Buy in Va Beach for their professionalism and customer service during my return. Class act and thank you! As far as this laptop, first and last time ever ASUS customer. Total shame but do not buy this laptop.

I bought the ASUS Zenbook and after just 5 months of use got constant "Blue Screen of Death" errors on it that made the computer unusable. I only used this computer for Zoom calls and barely installed anything on it. I'm disappointed with how short of a life it had. It had worked fined until the errors came up but I can't recommend buying a computer with such a short shelf life.

I hope people do not make the same mistake as I did, buying this laptop. I got it at a good price of 450 USD, but the price is just indicative of the bad quality of the laptop hardware. The graphic card has not been working since the day I got it. I have been facing both hardware and software issues with this. Moreover, the battery life is pretty bad, with a maximum of 5 hours of battery backup, and only during simple browsing with zero video content. I wish I had not wasted my money on this laptop, I can't even send it for return as I depend heavily on it for my school.

Great Value - Powerful Laptop With Few Drawbacks

Shopping for a new laptop can be a daunting task. It seems like for every laptop, there are a lot of positive reviews and at least a good number of negative reviews. The key to finding the laptop you will love is to know what you will be using it for and then narrowing down the list to those that have specs that will meet your needs. This Asus laptop is very aesthetically pleasing, with an attractive dark gray color and a nicely machined metal cover. Weighing in at 3 pounds 6 ounces (with the charger) is great for a lightweight laptop that packs good processing power. I often bike to work and the less weight on my shoulders the better. The laptop was easy to set up and get started. Entering a small amount of information, agreeing to terms and conditions, and installing a few updates took only a few minutes. I was also very happy there was not an excessive amount of bloatware pre-installed. This seems to be more the norm now, which is refreshing. Let’s get to performance. This is where my first paragraph comes into play. This Asus laptop features the awesome AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processor along with the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics processor (GPU). Dedicated GPUs add quite a bit of performance to any laptop, as they can perform calculations more rapidly than the main processor. There is a reason why password hackers use GPUs for their work instead of CPUs! Regardless, I ran the system through Cinebench and it registered a whopping 6679 in multi-core mode, which was better than some 11th generation Intel i7s with the integrated IrisXE graphics. Considering the Ryzen 5 is supposed to be in line with the Intel i5, this was very impressive. Even more impressive was the single core mode score of 1169. These numbers might not mean much to you, but they are important to understand when shopping for a laptop. Not all applications use multiple cores. Usually, the applications that do involve video encoding, CAD, graphics heavy games, and art programs. If you don’t use these types of apps, the multi-core number is meaningless. If you are using internet browsing, word processing, e-mail, and spreadsheets, these are all single core applications. Therefore, the single core performance number is of better use to you. Just because a laptop performs well in the multi-core mode does not mean it will perform well in the single core mode. This laptop had a Cinebench score almost triple that of my 1-year old 10th gen i7 laptop in multi-core mode, and about a 20% higher score in single core mode. You can feel the difference in the way the laptop handles everyday tasks. They are faster, webpage scrolling is faster and smoother. In addition, the video encoding I performed in Handbrake completed in less than half the time! For the gamers out there, the Heaven benchmark at 1920X1080 resolution with medium quality ran at 30-45 FPS, while high quality at the same resolution was at 25-35 FPS. So this laptop will handle moderately complex graphics gaming without issue. Now let’s get to some of the other key features. The laptop hosts an HDMI port, one standard USB port, and two USB-C ports. If you have the laptop plugged in, this will take up one of the USB-C ports. I would have liked to have had one additional traditional USB port, as one is usually taken up by a wireless mouse. You will need a USB hub if your needs are like mine. The keyboard is the feature I am least satisfied with. The keyboard is the same dark gray color as the rest of the laptop, and the key designations are printed with black ink. There are several viewing angles where you cannot see which key is which. In addition, the power button is right next to the delete key, and I found myself on several occasions hitting the power button instead of delete—putting the laptop into hibernation. Otherwise, the keyboard has good feel and is responsive. I also like that the keyboard tips up slightly when the display is tilted past vertical. The track pad is also nice and large, accommodating a good number of hand positions for typing and moving the cursor around. The laptop’s display is reasonably sharp and bright. I found it average for a laptop in this price range. The screen only folds back to about 45 degrees from vertical and does not feature a touch screen. So if you want to double the use of this laptop as a tablet through an application like BlueStacks, this laptop will not work well for you. Battery life was outstanding (I get about 6 hours out of it at 30% brightness with everyday tasks). For the price point, this laptop packs quite a bit of power in both multi-core and single-core mode, as evidenced by the Cinebench and Heaven benchmarking scores. Some of the fancier features are missing from this laptop (back-lit keyboard, touch-screen, and 2-in-one capability), but you are not going to find that in this price range. I'm pretty regretful for purchasing this laptop. This is my second one, returned the first one due to a manufacturing defect where the computer would just shut itself off randomly. This one seems to crash often where it will display a blue screen saying "something went wrong" with a sad face and reboot. Constantly losing my unsaved work because of this. I don't feel confident any buying any other Asus product and unfortunately I'm past the returning period...

      Dear ThedrewM,

Thank you for writing a comment for the product.

We certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have cause if you are experiencing auto-shutdown randomly and a blue screen of death.

To resolve the issue, please try to do a power cycle by shutting it down completely, disconnect any external devices and do a system reboot or restart. You may need to do this a couple of times. If problem persisted, please bot up in Safe Mode.

      1. Click the Windows-button → Power.

      2. Hold down the shift key and click Restart.

      3. Click the option Troubleshoot and then Advanced options.

      4. Go to “Advanced options” and click Start-up Settings.

      5. Under “Start-up Settings” click Restart.

      6. Various boot options are displayed. ...

      7. Windows 10 starts in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe mode do a System Restore in order to revert the system to the last known configuration. If this didn't work, boot up again in Safe mode and do a System Recovery.

Should you need further help, please let me know and I'll be more than glad to help. Or, you are always welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at: http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.
