Too Thin to Last
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After about 2 weeks of using it, I found 2 long streaks of dead pixels on the screen. I don't know how this happened considering this has been in a padded laptop bag most of its life, but the build quality is really up for debate... A $700 machine should be so easy to break... Everything else has been wonderful, but I can't recommend this laptop because this is NOT durable at all.

Return policy
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Went in to buy a laptop. It was an open box deal so I made sure to ask the person who was helping me the return policy. They advised me 30 days and on day 20 when I go in to return I was told that it’s 30 days for their “premium” clients 15 days for us regular shoppers. Now out 600 bucks on something I don’t even need.

It might work for you, until it doesn't
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop worked well until it didn't. I've had it for only three months for light use doing online college courses. Now it won't turn on, the laptop powers on yet screen stays black, connecting an external monitor doesn't work either. Don't buy this laptop.

Posted .Dear Needanewlaptop,
We do understand the inconvenience this mat have caused.
If the laptop will no longer boot up or it's just black screen, please do the following. Verify if the AC adapter is connected properly from the laptop to a known good power outlet or AC source. Try another power source. Try to press and hold down the power button to shut it down completely, just in case laptop is not in hibernate mode, wait for at least 10 seconds then power on. Please wait, if the system is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily. If it still black screen after a few minutes, at least 10 minutes, please repeat the power cycle process again. Also, please try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory. This will reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit.
If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I will be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at: http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

ASUS ZenBook 14
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ZenBook 14 is fast and powerful. The AMD Ryzen 5 allowed for multiple windows to be open and process large amounts of information without any slowdown. The battery lasts about 12 hours. I was able to work from the outer limits of my Wi-Fi without any loss of signal. The ASUS ZenBook is also Windows Hello ready. The display is brilliant and eases eye strain. The NVIDIA GEForce MX450 graphics card is designed for laptops and delivers crisp graphics in both photos and gameplay. The keyboard con only be seen from a 90-degree angle. The gray-on-gray keys make seeing each key hard, unlike the regular black on white that can be scene from almost any angle. I would recommend the ASUS ZenBook 14 to family and friends.

Annoying faults make me angry
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Three very annoying issues force me to give one star to this laptop. One: Occasional failure to wake up from sleep state; Two: Taking about 30 seconds to reconnect to WiFi after waking up; Three: While editing a document, pointer will jump to random places in the document; Four: Only one USB port that is also flaky, randomly disconnects and reconnects to any device.

Amazingly Fast, Wish the Screen Was Brighter
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am completely blown away with this ultrabook! If you're at all concerned that the ZenBook is sporting an AMD processor rather than an Intel, don't be. The Ryzen series has come a long way and is just as good if not better than the equivalent Intel processor. I even have a 4K virtual pinball machine running the exact same processor the ZenBook is, so I know it can pull a ton of weight. So far everything I've thrown at this processor has been fine, including streaming several videos at once, light gaming and huge downloads. The screen has almost no bezel. A couple years ago this would be a 12.5" laptop in the same size chassis, but now they can cram a 14" 16:9 screen into the same area. Size, thickness and weight are all perfect for a portable machine. If you're looking for a Windows alternative to the MacBook air, this is it. Overall weight is next to nothing and would hardly be noticed in a backpack or bag. Despite the light weight, Asus claims the Zenbook is built to military specifications for durability and it definitely feels that way. The body is all aluminum, even the bottom and the lid. There is no flex to the top around the trackpad area or keyboard. The keys can be pounded and there is no give to them. The chassis isn't unibody like a MacBook, but fit and finish are very good. The bottom portion below the trackpad is a little sharp. I wish it was rounded off, but it's not a big issue. Handling the case is a pleasure and there is no clicking or creaking. I feel like I could take this on the road and not worry about babying it. The keyboard feels excellent to type on. They are backlit, but unless you're in a dim room the light makes them harder to see because they cause the letters to blend in with the silver keys. In a dark room they work okay but aren't very evenly lit. The top row features dedicated function keys for volume, backlighting and quick access to MyAsus, which allows for handy wireless syncing with your mobile phone. I have my Android phone paired and am getting notifications from the phone on my laptop screen and have successfully transferred a photo wirelessly. It's similar to what Samsung has for their phones but boiled down to the essentials. On one side are two USB C ports with power delivery. THANK YOU for the USB C charging. I'm really excited to see how fast charging is standardizing. Also on that side is a full size HDMI port! Again, perfect for a road warrior for presentations or to plug in to a hotel TV for entertainment. The other side has a legacy USB port, a microSD card slot (the card doesn't go in completely flush and is ejected by pushing it in) and a headphone jack. I'm really happy they haven't gotten rid of the headphone jack yet. In testing I was able to driver my Audio Technica ATH-M50X headphones to a painful level without distortion. The installed DTS software has a built-in EQ I was able to tweak for perfect sound. Amazon Music HD reports the internal audio card can handle 24/96 files. The built in speakers are better than I had expected and are tuned by harmon/kardon. They get plenty loud for media consumption and aren't as tinny as many other laptops in this size range and bigger. I spent a lot of the day streaming live news and found the sound to be more than adequate. It's interesting that Asus included an NVIDIA discreet video card when the integrated GPU on the Ryzen 5 is really good to begin with. For the heck of it I tried out Doom and Tom Clancy's the Division. Both played above 60FPS in 1920x1080 on low settings. On a screen this size the low graphics settings still look great. Keep in mind that if you want to keep a game or two on here for travel that the SSD is only 128GB. On the subject of the screen, the 1080p display looks great, but I wish it was juuuuuust a tad brighter. I'm becoming spoiled by bright phone and tablet screens. A lot of laptops are going to 2K or 4K screens, but the screen on here is sharp and works perfectly for its size. Also, not having to push that many pixels is much better for battery life. The battery life is amazing so far, too. I haven't been able to run it down doing normal things in the course of a day. Even at full brightness and streaming video I've gone a few hours and the battery says it has 6+ hours left. In summary, if you have a need for something like the MacBook air but want to stick with Windows, you absolutely can't go wrong with the ZenBook 14! Despite my desire for a little more brightness I would call this a perfect laptop, especially for travel.

Past return period at best but]y (15 days is a joke honestly), so guess I am stuck with it and trying to get it RMA'd from Asus.

Stylish, Solid and Light- great performing laptop!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like the raised screen profile, the raised screen elevates the rear of the computer when the laptop is opened, this also elevates the speakers on the beveled sides allowing for even better audio reflection and dispersal (already quite good). Overall, the sound is very nice for this class of machine. The form factor is about as compact as you can get and still be functional without making it lager and heavier. It is very solid and stylish at the same time. It is very thin and still very sturdy. Although I would not recommend it for heavy duty gaming or video editing it is more than adequate for casual games and quick video production. The port selection is more than adequate for most setups, having multiple USB 2 & 3 ports, HDMI and SD card slots. It runs cool and quiet. It weighs next to nothing. All in all it functions well, looks great and is very study while still being compact, light and tuff.

Big Laptop, Small Size.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great things do come in small packages. I got this laptop because I needed a small, light weight computer that I could easily travel with. Not only is this laptop nice and compact, easy to throw into a backpack, briefcase, or purse, but it is fast and powerful like some of the larger models. With the solid state hard drive, it boots and loads at lightning speeds. I sometimes can't tell if its in sleep mode, off, or on since its startup times are so quick. This makes it easy for me to quickly take it out of my bag, open it up to do something without having to wait around for things to load. I am really happy with this laptop and would say that it is a great Windows alternative to the Macbook Air laptops.

ASUS's definition of an Ultrabook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Great Keyboard (Keys are illuminated and color matched to laptops body) Full HD Display - Anti-glare Fast Face Login/IR Webcam Active Noise Canceling Great Amount of Ports (Includes MicroSD card port) Bluetooth Fast Charging Great Weight (Not to light not to heavy) Graphics Card (Mobile/Entry Level) Cons: Touchpad (See 2nd paragraph) As you can see I do not have many cons for this Ultrabook laptop or what ASUS calls there ZenBook. ZenBooks typically are well equipped laptops which hold to certain value which depends on each manufacturer. Using a variety of Ultrabook's in the past I can safely say this is an excellent choice for those looking for a high quality built PC with a good set of specs. While this ZenBook does not have extreme capabilities and I would only suggest low to entry gaming it is an excellent choice for a professional or a home laptop used for daily tasks like Word/Excel/Emails and other productivity applications. The only Con I have with this ZenBook is the touchpad and its probably more me than the actual device. The touchpad actually works very well and is a good size; however, some reason when I have to left click sometimes I have to go to the far left corner. This is not always the case and I am not sure if my fingers/palm is touching the right side of the pad (just touching not clicking) when I am trying to left click and is activating it to think I am right clicking? It only happens once in awhile and 90% of the time it is fine. I have looked through the windows settings and ASUS dedicated software "MYASUS" and I could not find a setting that would make any material changes to help with left clicking on the touchpad. The keyboard in my opinion is perfect. It feels of high quality, is illuminated, color matched with laptops body and its just something I love to type on. Quick tip: If you have the illuminated keyboard on and its daylight or there are a lot of lights on turn off the illuminated keyboard (F7) you actually see the key symbols better. Once its dark or you are in a darker setting put those illuminated keys on and adjust their brightness. The Full HD screen (1920x1080) is crisp, bright and a good anti-glare coating. The screen is 14 inches and has more length rather than width. I can't really explain it but it has more of a true 16:9 aspect ratio which is awesome as it shapes the ZenBook as more narrow and in my opinion an ideal size. The screen bezels are small while the palm rests are also more narrow but not to narrow and keeps good ergonomics. The screen also has settings to change how vivid the colors and has blue light feature to protect your eyes (so you don't have to wear those glasses). When you setup this laptop it allows you to enable and setup face login which I high recommend using. Setup was easy and took less than a minute (during the process of the initial setup). Now as soon I turn on my ZenBook it recognizes me less than 2 seconds and has me loaded up to my home screen. The IR/webcam truly works well with this setup and ASUS is true to their word when they state it has "fast face login". Using the MYASUS software you have a variety of settings that you can customize. The one that stuck out to me the most is having the ability to enable noise canceling microphones in a variety of options. One setting allows you to have an enhanced regular microphone pick up, the next will provide active cancelation and will only pick up your voice and block all other noises in you area including voice and sounds. Then ASUS even goes farther and provides an active noise cancellation that will pick up multiple voices but still block out background noises from TVs, music, etc. This laptop has a good amount of ports including an HDMI out, two USB Cs (which either one can act as your charger), a USB A 3.0, headphone/microphone port, and a micro SD port. The ZenBook also has onboard Bluetooth capabilities for your favorite external mouse, keyboards, and headphones. ASUS also equipped this with there WiFi Master which helps provide a more stronger and stable wifi connection. Charging the ZenBook is fast. The included USB C charger was able to quickly charge the device and provides ample hours of computer time. The ZenBook advertises 12 hours and I believe you are able to achieve this if you go into the battery settings and click "Best Battery Life". I am currently using the "Better Battery" mode and was able to get a true 7-8 hours on my ZenBook. In addition, if you go into the MYASUS software (F12) you can adjust a setting to extend your battery life of your ZenBook with a few options on how your device is charged and what max percentage it will charge to. The laptop is well made and is not over or under weight. It feels great in my hands and will be great for taking anywhere. The equipped graphics card (NVIDIA MX450) is not for the video gamer but will be more than ample for what this ZenBook can handle and will be better than integrated graphics. It is great for productivity and I would say for low end gaming. If you like to play cards or some casino type fun games this will be just fine. If you want to play true titled games like Call of Duty or graphic intensive titles get something for gaming.

The Zenbook for the Moderate User
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS - Zenbook 14" Laptop is what I would consider a solid mid-tier laptop for at home or on the go use. Quickly put – I have found this laptop a fabulous size and weight for on the go while being reliable for everyday tasks. The battery life is impressive, lasting myself at least 10 hours of intermittent use and Netflix on one charge with being closed and unplugged prior. Having an SSD for storage is ideal. The 256GB is a reasonable size for the everyday user; with the option to get 512GB. Having Windows running off the SSD creates blazing speed. Bootup happens within seconds, which is a dream. Accessing files is quick and seamless. Of course, with the 256GB you can’t put a mass amount of HD content on the SSD or multiple games. I have become accustomed to a 17” display, so the 14” baffled me at first. This is paired with a thin footprint sliding easily into a backpack or sleeve. The size is easily maneuverable and ideal for lap use. The display itself is HD 1920x1080. Colors appear beautifully, with a crisp well-lit image. Windows defaults to having a zoom of 150%, so everything appears large; however, setting the zoom to 125% seemed standard. With the 14” display comes a smaller keyboard. This keyboard does NOT have a separate numerical pad. Also, this laptop – like most models of late does not have any type of CD-ROM drive. There is a microSD media reader though, which is quick useful. The Bluetooth pairing for the device works well, with no issues trying both headphones and controllers. The WiFi connected without issue, and quickly initiates upon opening the laptop. One of the cooler aspects for myself, is that with the built-in webcam, facial recognition log-in is available and quickly allows for accessing the laptop upon opening even in a dim lit room. The AMD Ryzen 5 is classified as a mid-range performance CPU, and for the everyday user, is more than needed. Paired with the 8GB of system memory, I found myself being able to stream Netflix, run discord, while browsing the internet at the same time without any issues. AMD is a reliable company, that I have found historically if you keep Windows updated and leave the drivers to Windows, have no issues with. In my opinion, the largest limitation of this laptop is the NVIDIA GeForce MX350 graphics. The reason this is considered a “limitation” is because it results in there being certain uses for the device. This is wonderful for internet use, movies, and casual use; however, this is not the graphics or CPU/graphics combo for intense gaming. This laptop is marketed accordingly, being able to support simple lower graphics games, but the abilities stop there. Keeping this in mind, the laptop is well designed to keep price reasonable and designed use maximized. This also comes with a 30-day trial of Office 365. This is the software license required for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Just be aware that this is equipped with Windows, but to have these programs is an added cost. A side note to this, is often-times employers or schools have options to obtain Microsoft Office 365 at a reduced price to the consumer. Ultimately, this laptop is a fantastic device pending personal needs. If while looking at this listing, the mentioned highlights align with your budget and desires, this laptop will not disappoint.
