    Great desktop replacement

For many years I have been working exclusively with 13” ultrabook laptops, and I decided to acquire the 15.6” ASUS ZenBook Flip 15 UX564EH_Q528EH to enjoy a bigger screen again. And a beautiful screen it is—lots of real estate and crisp, clear display. What I was not prepared for was the weight of this machine. It must weigh twice as much as my HP Spectre ultrabook. I would describe the ASUS as a desktop replacement, first and foremost. It has the great processing power of an i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, and great GeForce GTX video graphics. Technically, it is portable, but I would not want to carry it across a large airport terminal or work with it literally sitting on my lap. Better to keep it on my desk, propped up to a good ergonomic height with a Bluetooth keyboard. Not that the built-in keyboard is bad; in fact, it is amazing how it contains a full set of keys including number pad (although the num pad is very narrow). It’s just that typing on any laptop keyboard tilts your head down or places your arms too high for good posture. This laptop is described as possessing “US military-grade durability,” and that is how I would have described it without seeing that designation. It is solid as a rock. Bumping or even dropping it would not hurt it. Unlike many 2-in-1 laptops whose hinge feels flimsy, the hinge on the ASUS feels super-strong, like it will last a hundred years. Although I did try it in tablet mode and it worked fine, I could never image actually using it as a tablet—it is just too heavy. The strength and solidity of this laptop, along with its weight and processing power, are why it seems to me a desktop replacement laptop. I am not a gamer, so I cannot speak to the laptop’s performance there, although the specs indicate that it should function well as a gaming laptop. My major need for performance is in music composition and production with DAW software. I loaded up the laptop with my DAW (Cakewalk) and tested how well the software operated. The result was a thing of beauty—perfect responsiveness and timing. Furthermore, this machine is ultra-quiet. It runs just slightly warm, never hot, and the only time the fan went on is when I did a hardware diagnostics on the machine. This ASUS laptop will surely work well in my music studio, maybe even replacing my desktop completely.

Excellent performance, speed and display at a very attractive price. I initially went for a Dell computer but the Best Buy team member convinced me to go with ASUS. I am grateful he did!!!

Never owned or used an Asus before. This was recommended to me and I love it. It's easy to set up and use and lightweight. Good buy for the price.

The Zenbook Flip 15 is a 2-in-1 PC laptop that I really wanted to like and recommend. It is 15" but with its tiny bezels it manages to maintain a small footprint. It’s well-built and ASUS claims that it is military-grade (MIL-STD-810 to be exact) and can withstand shock, vibrations, high altitudes, and extreme temperatures. While I didn’t test any of that for obvious reasons I can attest that impressively the lid does not flex at all and the keyboard deck is solid. The keyboard backlight is well-lit and includes a 10-key number pad and Insert/Delete keys which is great for programmers and business users. Ports include two Thunderbolt 4, barrel-charging, and headset jack on the right, along with a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A, HDMI and SD Card reader on the left. Unfortunately, PC manufacturers are still including USB Type A ports on their laptops in 2021. I really wish there was an extra USB-C port on the left but what I wish for even more was the ability to charge via the Thunderbolt 4 ports on the right, but unfortunately you cannot, which is a bummer if your someone like me who wants to leave the proprietary chargers at home. The system does have the ability to pivot into a tablet position by rotating the keyboard but I’ve personally always found the tablet functionality “neat” on these types of machines but rarely useful. I'd rather have a thinner "traditional" laptop than the thicker designs that needed for the tablet mode functionality. There is al I do enjoy the “tent” mode while watching a movie or tv show but that is mostly because the keyboard deck is not exposed in case clumsy me spills my soda. The Intel Core i7 1165G7 inside is a power-efficient quad-core SoC that is quite capable for most workloads. It is a good combination of performance, power efficiency, and its party trick is extremely fast single core performance. In fact, this 11th gen chip scored the highest single core benchmark for an Intel CPU out of the systems I’ve owned and tested and that is including my desktop which sports a 10900K. The battery inside is a whopping 96Wh which is near the limit of what is legally allowed on airplanes. That size of battery combined with the power-efficient chip means battery life is decent, almost a full work day with light usage. Of course, heavy workloads or gaming will affect that greatly. Speaking of gaming, I’d normally be talking about the lackluster performance of the integrated graphics chip, which in this case is the Intel Iris XE that is baked onto the CPU. However, this unit actually comes with a dedicated Nvidia GeForce 1650 Max-Q meaning it can do real gaming at 1080p. In Fortnite, I am able to get very good framerates on the High setting. However, the laptop is designed so that when it is opened the bottom towards the back lifts up to allow air in. It’s a common design that Asus uses frequently but I spent some time using the laptop in my actual lap and in every scenario in which the system was at max whether it be gaming or simply installing Windows updates it would become incredibly slow until I moved it to a tabletop. Framerates in games like Fortnite or Jedi: Fallen Order would dip into the single digits and even something as simple as typing an email would start to lag. The performance will be so bad that I actually had replaced it by Asus with a second unit but it has the same issues. It took me a bit to realize though it needed to be on a tabletop. I've never had this issue in any other laptop I've owned or reviewed. Pros: 15” Pantone validated 1920x1080 touch screen with thin bezels 16 GB RAM Dedicated Geforce GTX Graphics chip High-capacity battery 360 Flip Capability Wifi 6 and Thunderbolt 4 Windows Hello Face Recognition Backlit Keyboard with 10-key Alexa Integration Cons: No USB-C Charging No stylus included Needs good airflow to prevent CPU throttling Overall I like this laptop, however, it's hard to recommend with the performance issues lack of USB-C charging support.

It was suggested to me that this laptop was top of the line in it's class and I do believe ASUS laptop has good quality. I had a laptop before from ASUS back in 2008. I took the suggestion and purchased this one. I was impressed! I was using Zoom and everyone was saying how the sound and picture was better than the HP Pavilion desktop! With that being said I wanted to start using this laptop for my Zoom presentations. Unfortunately the one I had stopped working properly after a couple of weeks. Both the remote Geek Squad and the in house Geek Squad tried to fix it to no avail due to a "RPC server unavailable", message kept popping up, not allowing the laptop to come on. After three attempts, Best Buy ordered me another one. I hope it was just a manufacture defect on that particular laptop.

from the moment that i stepped through the door of this particular Best buy store, i was greeted by everyone and the computer section crew was hands down excellent! All my questions were answered, and sometimes even questions that i didn't know i had were answered by the Best buy computer section crew. To be honest i felt rather intimidated going shopping for a personal laptop, and i'm glad that i went to this specific store because the crew there is top notch, and very knowledgeable on all electronics. i will for sure refer this location of the best buy stores to everyone i know: friends, family, co-workers, etcetera.
