But That Display!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS Zenbook Pro 15 Flip is a mid-range laptop with some very high-end features, most notably the 15.6 inch OLED display. The body of the laptop is aluminum and the top has a textured matte finish that looks great but is horrible with fingerprints. At just under 4 pounds, it's easy to carry and won’t weigh down your backpack. The backlit “ErgoSense” keyboard is just ok in my opinion. The key spacing is great and the travel is good but the feedback is a bit too rubbery for me and I feel like it slows down my typing. Another issue I have with the keyboard is there is no indication that the Num Lock button is on or off. One thing I do like about the keyboard is with the FN options. I really like f11 for screen snips. Having this as a single hot key is really convenient. (Windows-Shift-s also works) There are also keys to disable the trackpad, camera and mic and a key for MyASUS. The keyboard also has white backlighting and it's easy to see the white letters on black keys. The “ErgoSense” trackpad is a diving board format with no distinct buttons. The feel is nice and the size is right although I would have preferred a haptic feedback trackpad the likes of the Microsoft Studio Laptop or MacBook Pro. Performance is very good all around. The 12th generation i7 12700H chip has 14 cores, 6 performance and 8 efficiency and maxes at 4.70 GHz. I had no trouble running Adobe Photoshop or Premiere Pro. There is 16GB of DDR5 Ram and 512GB SSD. I got just under 2500 MBs read and writes on the SSD. If you’re into benchmarks - Geekbench 5 Battery: single core 1456, multi-core 8750, and open CL 19352. Plugged in: single-core 1707, multi-core 11747 and open CL 19573 Cinebench battery: single core 1310 and multi-core 10451. Plugged in: single-core 1726 and multi-core 12630. I’ve had the fans spin up a couple of times and you can hear them but they are not loudest i've heard. You can select between Performance, Standard and Whisper fan modes in the MyASUS app. There is no discrete graphics card for this model. EVO graphics are handled on the CPU. As far as connectivity, the Q519 comes with two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports that support fast charging, a 3.2 gen USB-A port, headphone/microphone combo jack and HDMI port and a Micro SD card reader. I would have preferred a full-size SD reader. Finally, there is a barrel connector for the power supply. But that display! The ASUS Zenbook Pro has a 2880 x 1620 (2.8K) resolution OLED display that is absolutely stunning to look at, as it should be - and most likely the reason you buy this laptop. The 120 Hz refresh rate gives silky smooth movement when scrolling web pages, watching action flicks or playing games. Colors just pop and you just can’t get blacks like this on any other display! The MyASUS app allows you to customize the display to your liking. I like the Vivid setting but you can also switch display modes between sRGB, Adobe RGB and 100% DCI-P3 depending on your needs. Another thing you can do is dim background applications with Target Mode. This helps protect the OLED display but I like it just to keep focus on the active window. This is really helpful. MyASUS also allows you to customize the performance and input settings - putting everything in one convenient location. The ASUS Q529 has a Harman Kardon four speaker Dolby Atmos stereo sound system. I thought the speakers sounded good for a laptop - having decent mids and highs, however, as expected, they lack deep pounding bass. Volume is probably the best I've heard from a laptop and there is no distortion at full volume. I was also really impressed with the Atmos sound - hearing surround sound all around me, including behind me coming from a laptop is pretty impressive. This is a convertible laptop so the screen flips all the way over and supports the ASUS Pen 2.0 which is not included. This is a big miss in my book for all laptop manufacturers. When you push a feature along with the hinge to allow you to use the feature but don't include the most important part… There is a 720P webcam in the top bezel of the display. The camera supports Windows Hello facial recognition and does a good job of it. There is no fingerprint reader. The webcam has good video and works well in low light. There are several webcam effects in the MyASUS app for background blur, eye or motion tracking and lighting. The microphones have an AI driven noise suppression that works pretty well but the voice on the other end does sound a bit muffled and overly processed. Overall, for the price, this is a fantastic, well-built laptop that you have to see and hear to believe. Buy it for the display but use it for the performance. Even though I personally hate the keyboard, I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well-balanced price vs performance laptop with an absolutely awe-inspiring display.

A Crisp OLED Screen Makes for a Good Upgrade
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This appears to be an update of the Zenbook Flip 15 (Q528). It has a faster processor, a much better display, but strangely slower graphics since it's using an Intel Iris xe graphics instead of an Nvidia mobile GPU. But that last difference isn't really an issue since this laptop isn't meant for gaming. From the special offers included, it seems clear Asus is gearing this laptop for the creative content market. The first part of that is the display. This laptop has a beautiful 2880x1620 OLED screen that runs at 120Hz, without software to make sure you're catching the proper color. The general positives: * A nice, crisp screen * A decently fast (~3550 MB/s) NVMe drive * The main keys are slightly bigger than the previous generation and were comfortable to type on * It uses a smaller power brick (90W) * Battery life was pretty good, I managed to get 6? maybe? hours out of it with light-moderate use * A clean setup: I didn't have to uninstall a bunch of bloatware at the beginning * I really like the keyboard buttons to disable the microphone and webcam (just make sure the cam is on if you want to use Windows Hello.) * Fantastic noise reduction during video calls. This is more a function of the MyAsus software. Some negatives: * I tend to use the numeric keypad quite a bit, and these are smaller keys on this laptop. Keying in numbers was uncomfortable and prone to errors due to the smaller, scrunched-up size. * The speakers are not earth shattering. Indeed, I didn't get any real bass out of them. * Lack of a GPU (It's still useful for graphics applications). Again, the screen is beautiful on this laptop!

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.it is too bulky and heavy. If you want to computer stay in one place, this will be good as a desktop. It also has a button to turn it on, but it’s so small on the side.

Solid and Reliable
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS Zenbook 15.6" OLED EVO Platform laptop appears to be solid, good resolution, and can handle multiple/many web tabs opened at the same time. PRO's: - Screen Resolution - Solid Build - Solid Hinges (thus far) - much better than Dell's hinges - Smooth feeling and responsive track pad CON's: - Poor speaker quality when on a Microsoft TEAMS Meeting or Google Meet. Speakers work fine with videos, however, it creates a lot of crackling when on a Microsoft TEAMS or Google Meeting. I've read that it may be a power performance issue, however, I haven't looked into this theory. I never had a speaker problem on our HP laptop. - Really stupid placement of the on/off/sleep button on the outer lower right side of the laptop where your hand will automatically click the button when lifting up the laptop. For me, it just puts the laptop in a state of sleep and is easily awakened, but very annoying. - Can't close the lid and keep Wi-Fi on at the same time. I was informed there was a mechanism built into the hinges that automatically turns the Wi-Fi off when the lid is closed. - Number keypad is quirky and difficult to use without constantly making typing errors. - Outer casing and mouse pad may require frequent cleaning due to retaining finger prints Although there are more cons than pros, this ASUS laptop is more durable than the Dell laptop that only lasted six months due to poor hinges that eventually broke and broke the screen.
