Great launch, sleek without issues
|Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Immediately, I've had great impressions with the S14. It has great stand-by/sleep battery performance. Over the course of 20 hours, the battery only decreased by 1% from full charge. This is great as I'm constantly moving between classrooms or around my workplace, and now I can do so without worrying about shutting down the laptop down. During real world usage at 80% brightness, I had the S14 at 100% battery at 10AM and it decreased to 7% at 6PM, so a 93% decrease over 8 hours. During this period I was working heavily and switching through multiple Chrome tabs, programming in Android Studio, emulating Kali in VirtualBox, and participating in Zoom lectures. I was very impressed by the laptop holding up, generally I would need to find an outlet in the middle of the day. I am certain if it was a less hectic day, I could easily push around 12 hours usage under casual use. One helpful feature that Windows has been pushing with any device with an IR camera (S14) with presence sensing where the screen dims when you look away or locks itself when you step away helps reduce battery drain as well. As for the components, realistically the only upgradeable/replaceable parts would be the battery, the NVMe SSD (M2280), the fans, and the WiFi card. Everything else seems to be soldered down so 16GB DDR5 is all you'll be getting. Some further context about my stance on this laptop is in contrast to my experiences with the Zenbook S16 that I exchanged for this. I had issues with upgrading the storage from 1TB and driver issues where the WiFi adapter would not properly work after waking from sleep requiring a restart. Also I found the lid to stain very easy with the Scandinavian White, just sliding it in and out against my felt pocket in my backpack had black stains on the corners. Whereas the S14 took my 2TB 980 Pro upgrade without issue and I've yet to run into any driver issues with it. The S16 would fail to complete the drive upgrade no matter whether the data was cloned, installed from asus cloud reecovery, or clean installed (would BSOD). To be clear, this may have been patched for the S16 already, but right away the launch for the S14 has been far better without issue. The Intel Arc APU has decent performance, nothing great but good enough you would be able to play games. I found that Deadlock could be run ~55-70 FPS on low settings, Helldivers on steam deck graphics settings on performance rendering ~60 fps, and Cyberpunk ~29fps on low with xess on performance. Ultimately, I'm very happy with the S14. It's portable, has solid power, and its resolution is large enough that coding is not an issue despite being 14".

Thin, Light, Powerful with excellent battery
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Zenbook S 14 uses Intel's latest Lunar Lake mobile CPU platform to enable snappy fast performance, all--day battery life and best-in-class connectivity in a beautiful and premium feeling form factor. The Zenbook 14 will immediately invoke comparisons with XPS13 or MacBook Air but it is actually larger in terms of screen size, yet manages to be thinner and lighter too. The keyboard and trackpad feel great and have excellent backlighting. What really strikes me is that the keys are separated and have good key travel and feel when pressed, unlike the latest iteration of XPS13 where all the keys felt spongy and almost feel like they are connected. For connectivity, there's two thunderbolt 4 USB-C connectors that also provide power delivery, a full size HDMI 2.1 connector, and also a USB-A 3.2 connector on the other side along with a 3.5mm mini-jack for headphones. Most laptops in this class only have 2xTB4/USB-C connections, so the extra connectivity is awesome for those who need to connect or present to TVs or Projectors, or connect a USB thumb drive to pull files off. For wireless, you have WiFi 7 and BT5.2. The nice thing about BT5.2 is that with Windows 2H24 you get Phone Link even with iPhone, so you get pictures and text messages on your laptop, works great! Another nice feature is that Intel's Lunar Lake chipset has an excellent NPU for local Copilot AI processing. This allows you to use AI features like ChatGPT, even if you're offline. Definitely worth checking out, although the online versions are still faster/more updated, this is a good option if you don't want to connect to cloud AI or don't have a reliable connection available. The great battery can't be overemphasized, this laptop has all-day power that is better than the Snapdragon Elite laptops but not quite as good as Apple but getting closer and closer. This is great for folks who are on the go and I expect to see these more in Corporate work environments. The 3K OLED screen and Dolby Atmos speakers make for an excellent TV show and movie watching experience. At first I didn't like the look of the metal grill at the top for the speakers, but after I heard them, I understood why they were so big. Excellent sound for such a thin form factor laptop. Definitely enjoying this new Ultra Light laptop from Asus, it will definitely be my new daily driver and its something I'll certainly recommend to my IT department at work. I would say the only negative is that this chipset from Intel has the RAM directly on-package with the CPU which is limited to 2xRAM chips, so I believe it will be 16GB max, which is not going to be enough for heavier power users that need more RAM. I'm not sure if storage can be upgraded either, but it comes with 1TB and you can store to the cloud so that's not as big of a concern for me than the limited RAM. Typed this whole review on the Zenbook S and it was an absolute pleasure doing it on the wonderful keyboard. Make sure to update the drivers, firmware and Windows itself, as there’s a lot of updates. I did get a blue screen on wake up with driver power state failure until I updated the drivers. Given this laptop goes to sleep frequently to save power, then wakes up with Windows Hello facial recognition and proximity sensing, you will want to make sure the drivers are updated asap.

Lightweight and powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I usually travel with an iPad Pro and a GalaxyBook, but after bringing the Zenbook on a recent work trip, I’m completely sold on this laptop. First, the Zenbook is impressively light and thin, probably the most well-balanced laptop I’ve owned in terms of weight and design. It features raised wedges on the underside that slightly elevate the laptop, allowing for better airflow. My other laptops sit flush against surfaces and tend to heat up quickly, so this is a welcome design improvement. The display is stunning. The glossy finish enhances the richness of colors, though it does have some glare, as you can see in my airport lounge photo. When I compared it side-by-side with my wife's laptop, which also has a high-quality display, the Zenbook’s color vibrancy was noticeably superior. However, the real impact of the 120Hz refresh rate on the OLED display becomes apparent when you see videos in motion—it’s incredibly smooth. As for size, it’s ideal for travel. I often struggle to work on a plane because my other laptop is wide and includes a 10-key pad. The Zenbook, however, fits perfectly on my seat tray, and its lightweight design makes it easy to stow. One of my favorite features is the charging port, which uses USB-C, making it convenient to find compatible chargers anywhere. However, it requires 65 watts for adequate charging, which can be challenging without the right power brick. The included charger has a hardwired USB-C, rather than a split design with a separate power block and cable. A two-piece system would have been preferable for situations needing a longer cord or replacements. The touchpad has built-in controls for volume and brightness, which are very convenient for travel. Surprisingly, I haven’t accidentally triggered these functions, despite initial concerns. Battery life is excellent, thanks to the new Intel 7 Core processor optimized for efficiency. While it lacks a dedicated graphics card, which limits its power for video rendering or demanding gaming, it’s perfectly capable of handling multiple open tabs, streaming, and Excel work. I’ve logged around 30 hours of time on this computer already, just doing daily work, and have yet to experience any issues. There was a bios update at the beginning, which I found surprising. I’ve also had difficulty with Co-Pilot, as I can’t use continuous speech to keep talking to it. I discovered an issue with co-pilot where it kept my mic hot after using, and this caused the speakers to sound very strange. Normally, the speakers are incredible, probably the best I’ve encountered on a laptop this size. Overall, I’m absolutely thrilled with this laptop. This is one of the more impressive computers I’ve come across, and several of my staff and work colleagues have expressed interest in getting one, just based on their interaction with mine. I’m normally somebody who prefers a bigger screen, just because I’m approaching 40 and my eyes aren’t as sharp as they once were. However, with the OLED 3 K display, screen size isn’t as important as I previously considered it to be.

A Do It All, Ultraportable Windows Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a superb laptop for business or school, one with portability, a bright display, a snappy processor and a sleek design. I do have some quibbles with this machine. Overall, though, it's a great value. I bought this Asus Zenbook S 14 because I wanted a lightweight ultraportable business laptop with the speed to handle my work flow and a best-in-class display. By those metrics, this machine has exceeded expectations. Here are some plusses and a few downsides worth noting: * The OLED display is absolutely stunning, a worthy rival to the MacBook Pro. It has a 120 hertz refresh rate, helping make text and images sharp. * The ceraluminum material of the lid is elegant looking, solid and isn't a fingerprint magnet like some other darker colored laptops. * The keyboard is excellent to type on, with the key travel one would expect in a thin, lightweight laptop. * The trackpad is spacious and responsive. (More on the trackpad later). * The new Lunar Lake, Intel Ultra 7 processor has the speed to rival that of the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon laptops. It's not at the level of the MacBook Pro M series machines, but it's plenty quick for everyday use. * The battery life is incredible, easily making it through a day at the office without additional charge. Downsides: * This doesn't have a haptic trackpad. So, it doesn't function with the smoothness of a Surface Laptop 7 or a MacBook. It's not a bad trackpad, by any means. But it's not as premium as some other laptops at this price point. * The speakers are okay, but not powerful. They're a bit tinny. * The port selection for an ultraportable laptop is excellent. Ideally, I would have liked to have a USB-C port on each side, not both clustered on the left. That would make charging a bit easier. I'm increasingly impressed with Asus laptops for their build quality, design and exceptional displays. This Zenbook is outstanding. That said, I think it's a bit expensive at full price. I was able to grab this one on sale, and at a great value at that price.

ASUS Zenbook S 14: Elegantly Powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Zenbook S 14" OLED 3K AI Copilot laptop is a premium portable ultra-thin laptop. I stress the word "Premium." It can compete with any laptop in this category. With its smooth ceraluminum finish, it's ultra-thin design, premium sound, vapor chamber cooling, and AI hardware capabilities, it's everything that a working professional could want in a laptop. I would highly recommend the S 14 for work productivity, creative professionals, and students. Let's start with the build quality and design. The Zenbook S has a sleek ceraluminum finish that most of us haven't seen before. Ceraluminum is ceramic bonded with aluminum that is lightweight, scratch-resistant and also recyclable. It also looks like a brushed matte finish. The surface inside and out also manages to avoid those aggravating fingerprints and smudges. The S 14 weighs in at an ultralight 2.65 lbs with dimensions of 12 x 8.5 x .5 inches. There are 2 thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, a 2.1 HDMI port and a 3.5mm jack on the left side. On the right there's a lone 3.2 Gen A USB port. As mentioned before there's a vapor chamber for cooling. Air is drawn under the bottom of the laptop and up through the top vent just below the display. Speaking of the display the OLED 3K screen has no screen wobble and the hinges feel sturdy. *Tech Specs* The Zenbook S 14 has the long awaited Lunar Lake 8 Core Intel Ultra 7 Series 2 256v with a base clock frequency of 1.6 GHz and a boost clock of 5.1 GHz. There's an NPU capable of 47 TOPS, and Intel Arc integrated graphics. It features an even smaller SOC. There's a 1 TB NVME SSD and 16GB of LPDDR5X 8533 MHz RAM. The 72Wh battery shines, delivering over 20 hours of life. With demanding tasks, I was able to get over 15 hours. The battery can also give you 50% charge in about 30 to 45 minutes if you need it. The Zenbook S 14 comes equipped with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 too. *Hardware* CPU - Lunar Lake Intel Core Ultra 7 Processor Series 2 scored 8022 Multi and 1660 Single core scores on Cinebench R23. It also scored 10591 Multi and 2514 Single core scores on Geekbench 6. The CPU gives you plenty of power but all while prioritizing battery life. Battery - 72Wh, Power cable is a 65W slim. Battery life is outstanding due to the hardware efficiency. Graphics - Intel Arc Integrated Graphics 140V 8GB can handle all your productivity tasks with ease. It breezed through Creative Suite and zipped through a few AI tasks as well. It can absolutely handle light to medium gaming at 1080p and still look beautiful. I ran Minecraft at 116 FPS with a CPU temp averaging around 66 degrees Celsius. Overwatch 2 played at 75 FPS and ran the CPU temp up to about 75 degrees Celsius peaking at 87 on load. While gaming the keyboard was a little warm but comfortable, mousepad and adjacent areas were cooler, and the top vent was warmer than both. TimeSpy score: 4240 (Graphics 3969, CPU 6933) Performance Fan Profile Night Raid w/Integrated Graphics: 27198 (Graphics 36129, CPU 11329) Performance Fan Profile Display - The 14" 2880 x 1800 Lumina OLED touch screen is Pantone Validated, HDR True Black Certified, and Dolby Vision Certified. It has a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate making it easy on the eyes. There is 100% sRGB 94% AdobeRGB and 99% DCI P3 coverage. Amazing coverage that makes it the perfect screen for creative, photo, or graphics oriented production. The OLED has beautiful vibrant colors and deep blacks. I tested a few movies out and it doesn't get much better on an OLED. Peak brightness is 500 nits. The touch screen is responsive and the display opens up to about 130 degrees (does not lay flat.) Frankly, I haven't found much use for a laptop that lays flat, although I'm sure it has its purpose. Cooling - There is an even better vapor chamber in the Zenbook S 14. Fans rarely come on but when they do they're quite, peaking at about 45 decibels on performance mode. On standard mode I was seeing about 30 to 35 decibels. This is very impressive. You won't feel anything warm unless you're really pushing the machine. The cooling technology on the Zenbook S is top-tier. Keyboard and trackpad - The first thing I noticed is how easy it was to read the keys. They're well lit and slightly larger than normal. The keyboard and the trackpad both feel great. You won't think about them much while using and that's how it should be. The trackpad supports Windows Gestures. You should use these features. If you swipe up and down on the left side of the trackpad you can adjust the volume, side-side at the top is rewind/fast forward through videos, up/down on the right side adjusts your brightness, and a diagonal swipe down from the upper right corner will open up ASUS Screenxpert. Keyboard travel is 1.1 mm and it feels just right. Audio - The Zenbook S 14 has Harman/Kardon speakers that really surprised me. I've had a ton of laptops and these are the best sound I've heard from external speakers on a PC laptop. There's an adequate amount of mids and lows that I just haven't heard yet on my previous laptops, and the fact that they managed to squeeze this sound into a 14" chassis is even more impressive. If you need the external speakers for a movie, music, or a conference call you won't be disappointed. In fact, you might not need the headphones. Camera - Video is 1080p 30fps with IR. AI does a great job canceling out background noise and focusing on the speaker during conference calls. AI also blurs the background. This camera also supports Windows Hello mode and detects quickly. *Software* Windows Hello makes logging in and entering passwords easy. The My Asus App included helps you monitor your system performance, but it also allows you to adjust a few important settings. You will have access to your CPU load, CPU Temp, Memory Usage, and Hard Disk space usage on your main dashboard. You also have product registration and warranty info here. A few changes I would recommend in Device Settings: 1. Under Battery Care I set the max charge at 80%. This will help lengthen battery life. 2. Fan Profile can be set to 4 different modes. If you're working with creative, ai, or gaming I would choose Performance mode which will boost cooling performance. Otherwise, I would use standard or whisper mode to quiet the fans. Even with fans on Performance Mode I was around 35 to 40 decibels. In standard mode you will dip down to 28 to 33 decibels. 3. Set the Sound Mode under Audio/Visual to Dynamic. This will let Dolby Atmos identify the Audio and adjust accordingly. 4. Turn Volume Booster on if you need a little bit more volume using external speakers. 5. Turn on "Automatically hide Windows taskbar in desktop mode. This will help prevent static images on your OLED screen. 6. Also under Color Gamut (in Audio/Visual settings) you can adjust your monitor from Native to sRGB or DCI P3 if you need it for creative editing. 7. Under Input Device Settings you can lock the Fn so that your Function keys will trigger the event automatically. For Example, instead of typing Fn + F1 for Mute Volume Key. You would just type F1 and the volume will mute. 8. Last recommendation, you can lock in 120 Hz by clicking on the Fixed Refresh Rate. Otherwise it will default to dynamic which will lower it down to 60Hz when you're on battery to preserve battery. The system diagnosis option is a comprehensive intuitive tool if you're having issues ranging from blue screen to a slow system. *Performance* The Zenbook S handled the Creative Suite with every task I threw at it. The Office Suite was a breeze. All the while, it rarely needed fans. Browsing the web, I counted 23 tabs open and not one bit of lag or slowdown. I had a variety of apps open as usual and you'll barely notice the Zenbook having to work. AI tasks happen quickly. I believe the longest I waited on AI might have been about 10 seconds when generating graphics. *Pros* *Beautiful 3K OLED screen *Sleek Design *Powerful AI *Quiet *Long Battery Life *Top Tier Cooling *Needs Improvement/Suggestions* *Video Camera is good, but it would be nice to go QHD for conference calls *Would like to see more AI software bundled The Zenbook S 14 OLED 3K is made to perform. It checks every box for a premium Ultrabook for a work professional. It's portable, powerful, and classy. You can work all day with it, but also enjoy a great looking/sounding movie with the OLED and Harman Kardon speakers. As mentioned in the beginning of this review, I highly recommend the Zenbook S 14. It's hard to find a weakness. 5 Stars. Asus delivered.

Thin and Light with Great Battery
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great thin and light laptop. The battery life, display, and built quality are all excellent. For the price, you can get better performance, but it’s more than good enough for everyday use and being an x86 system instead of ARM is a nice win for compatibility. The box includes the laptop and a 65W charger. The charger is a little bit of a disappointment to me; the cable is not detachable and the AC prongs don’t fold in, so it’s not very portable. Thankfully, it’s USB-C, so it can easily be swapped out for another one. The laptop is quite thin at only about half an inch thick and light as well at 2.65 lbs. It’s really easy to pick up and carry around. The aluminum chassis feels solid and there’s no noticeable creaking or flexing at all. The hinge mechanism moves easily and stays put without wobbling. It’s got an eye-catching design too with a silver oversized version of the Asus logo cut into the lid surrounded by a gray stone-like finish. This does attract some fingerprints, but they’re not too noticeable against the dark gray color. For ports on the left-hand side, there are 2 USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4, an HDMI 2.1 output, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the right there is a single USB-A 10Gbps. It’s a decent selection of ports for a thin and light, but I do wish there was a USB-C port on the right side too just for convenience of charging. The keyboard is backlit and feels good to type on. The backlight also illuminates all the keys evenly. The keys feel like they have just the right amount of travel - maybe a little shallow but I like it a lot. The trackpad is very large and supports all the standard Windows gestures, as well as a couple of extra ones Asus threw in where you can adjust volume by sliding along the left side and the screen brightness by sliding along the right. I did find myself triggering the brightness adjustment by accident a lot though, so I ended up turning this off in MyASUS. The OLED display looks fantastic and has a 120Hz refresh rate. It maxes out at 500 nits, so it’s not the brightest ever, but it’s totally usable in most situations. It also supports a variable refresh rate between 48-120Hz. The 2880x1800 resolution offers great pixel density for the screen size and the 16:10 aspect ratio makes working on it much easier compared to 16:9. The colors out of the box look great, but MyASUS also lets you dial it in depending on your needs like if you need to clamp the gamut down to sRGB. Asus has some built-in protection like transparency and pixel refresh to prevent burn-in, though time will tell how effective that is. General performance has overall been good. I’ve seen other reviews that comment that Intel’s Lunar Lake 200V chips fall short of AMD and Qualcomm, but I didn’t notice any deficiencies in my day-to-day use in Chrome and other productivity apps compared to the Surface Pro 11. And being x86 you are getting better compatibility compared to ARM that doesn’t require emulation. It wakes from sleep very quickly and with Windows Hello built-in you’re pretty much instantly back in and working. Asus preloads a few of their apps, but it’s nothing egregious and in general the bloat is kept to a minimum. I don’t know if this will apply to everyone, but when I registered mine with Asus I was enrolled in 1 year of accidental damage protection, which is a nice little peace of mind. Though it’s definitely not for gaming, the Arc 140V iGPU built into the Zenbook is actually not too bad light gaming and can even run some more demanding games like Control at nearly 60fps on 1080p/Low. Battery life is a high point for the Zenbook. It will obviously depend on what you’re doing, but my experience so far has me getting around 9-10 hours in day-to-day usage with HDR and 120Hz turned on. And I’m able to close the lid and put it to sleep without losing a significant charge unlike previous Windows laptops I’ve used - I only lost about 2% charge with the laptop put to sleep overnight. It’s more than enough to get through a typical day and it recharges quickly too. The speakers sound surprisingly good for how thin the laptop is. They don’t get insanely loud and the bass is somewhat lacking, but they’re clear and don’t distort. For making calls they’ll sound great for sure. The webcam looks pretty good, but gets a little grainy in less than ideal lighting and it’s easy to blow out your face if you’ve got a window behind you. The microphone sounds really great though. The 1TB SSD is a Western Digital SN560. I’ve used it on a few other devices and it’s a good mid-range PCIe Gen 4 SSD and this is upgradeable. The 16GB of RAM is built into the CPU though and is not upgradeable. For most people 16GB should be okay, but for future-proofing it might be worth spending the extra $100 on the model with 32GB of RAM. Overall as a very portable computer with an x86 processor I think the Zenbook S 14 ticks most of the boxes. It’s a well-built laptop with a great display and battery life to match.

Sleek Design, Great Performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been looking to replace my aging laptop for a while. I liked the look of this laptop. So farm I'm very happy with it. Let's break it down. DESIGN The design is sleek and the build seems high quality. I have noticed that the dark matte finish doesn't attract fingerprints as much as the glossy finish of other laptops and since it's dark. I did find that the power button wasn't obvious initially, it's integrated into the keyboard along the top with the F1-12 keys. Now that I know where it is, it's fine. I like how the back of the laptop is raised. It makes that side a little thicker, but I like my keyboard raised a little like that, so I appreciate it. The charger is a single unit and not too long which is nice, but it's a brick at the end so it can't just fit in any outlet. SETUP Setup was simple, but that's mostly due to Microsoft and Windows, not the laptop itself. There are minimal docs in the box, it basically just tells you to plug it in and power it on. PERFORMANCE Boot time is 13 seconds to login screen from pressing the button. Power off is about 5 seconds. Waking from sleep is near instant. My other laptop, which is only 6? Months old, and has comparable specs, takes much longer all 3. The laptop is very responsive and I haven't noticed any lag at all while working on it. I have heard the fan come on a few times, but it’s not too loud. CONNECTIVITY Wifi 7 is great. I have a Nighthawk WIFI 7 router with 1Gbps fiber and I was able to get 960Mbps upload/download while in the same room as my router. Any of my older devices typically top out at 600Mbsp. I like how this laptop comes with a USB-A port. I still have some devices with USB-A connections, so it's nice to be able plug them in this laptop (Please note that the Best Buy site mislabeled the USB-A port as USB-C). As with other reviews, it would be nice to have a USB-C connection on the right side of the laptop, but it's not a deal breaker. It's nice to have a headphone jack. My other laptop literally only has USB-C ports. With this Zenbook, I don't need an adapter. INTERFACE The keyboard is very nice. The layout is intuitive and I appreciate that it doesn't have a touch panel and has the function keys across the top like a keyboard should. Keys are far enough apart that you can tell what key you are on (I have another laptop where the keys are larger than usual and the gap between keys is tiny you don't know what key you are on, so that one is really hard to type on). The touchpad is very smooth and easy to work with. It came with a sticker that describes the functions. You can change the volume and brightness right from the touchpad, though there are buttons on the keyboard too, so you can quickly change those settings either way. I haven't noticed issues with the touchpad while typing, which is nice. BATTERY The battery has been great, I have been able to use it for hours without having to worry about charging it. I did feel it get warm when I had it plugged in once, but after I unplugged it, it cooled off. CONCLUSION/FINAL THOUGHTS I am very pleased with this laptop. The performance has been great for my needs. I have not had any issues with the laptop in the week I've been using it. I would recommend this laptop.

Elegant, Lightweight, with Remarkable Battery Life
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OVERALL: Although I initially had a less than pleasing Out Of Box Experience (OOBE), once I was able to setup and configure this ASUS Zenbook S14, it has been nothing by smooth sailing without issues. Overall, a well-designed laptop, with one gorgeous 3K OLED “touch screen” display, backlit keyboard, massive 72Wh battery power life, coupled with a speedy Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 2 processor with an Intel AI Boost NPU. Add in the Intel WiFi 7 (BE201) network card, the WD SN560 1TB SSD, the Asus FHD and IR cameras for Windows Hello, plus four Harman/Kardon speakers. All of the above contained in a very thin and lightweight “Ceraluminum” (fused ceramic & aluminum) case. Very sweet indeed! My only “nitpick” is the non-upgradable 16GB of onboard memory that may limit (I said may…) future upgradability to support memory intensive applications. But for the moment, the current memory configuration is just fine for my daily business and internet surfing use. RATING: After using for five days, this ultraportable Intel based Asus Zenbook S14 earned itself a solid 5-Start rating. Its assets far outweighed any perceived liabilities. Would be an excellent choice for business, home, or classroom use. Go for it! TL;DR: DISPLAY: I am somewhat taken aback by the gorgeous OLED 3K 14-inch display. Currently, it is the best-looking display I have ever seen and used, a real work of art. Blacks are black at any viewing angles, and colors pop. I had no issues with outdoor use as long as it was not competing in direct sunlight. Note that there can be some glare depending on positioning, but I consider that is the trade-off for having vibrant colors and crisp looking text. Now for my daily use, I had to re-configure the default and recommended 200% Scale to 250% to enlarge the type to something that was actually readable. And I did change to a static 60Hz refresh rate (disabling Dynamic Refresh Rate) for better battery life without any perceived loss of screen motion. Must also mention, this is the first display that I can actually live with “Dark Mode” on. All in all, no major or minor complaints, only compliments after configuring for my personal requirements. BATTERY: Another “Shaking My Head” in somewhat disbelief with the 72Wh battery life provided by this S14 laptop. I am averaging between 9 to 12, and sometimes up to 14, hours of battery life as reference by the task bar Battery Status ICON. And overnight in Sleep Mode, it is only losing about 2 to 3%. Working collectively, ASUS, Intel, and Microsoft deserve credit here for an outstanding job managing power for an extended use experience. One final comment, the provided small 65-watt power adapter is sufficient and gets the rechanging job done. PORTS: Dual USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, a single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, and one HDMI 2.1 port. Plus, the 3.5mm headphone jack. Would have been sweet if one of the USB-C ports was on the right side for different charging options, but that is just another nitpick. TOUCHPAD: Although this has a very responsive “touch screen” display, I have grown up with a mouse and touchpad as my primary tools for control of motions. Having a fairly large touchpad helps and normally does not get in my way. Asus including additional touchpad functions (volume & brightness) is another step in the right direction, even though I use the 4-finges touchpad control to adjust volume, and the keyboard function keys for brightness. COPILOT: OK, I’ll admit I don’t currently have a need for Copilot, or the AI Assistant. But I just may in the future. Having options is always a good thing. MANUALS: Was able to find online and download three PDF manual for this unit. One being a User Manual, along with two Service Manuals. Coming from a computer service background, I can’t say enough on downloading manuals prior to actually needing them. And I always recommending getting them while you can. OOBE: The “Out Of Box Experience” was slightly spoiled by over 3 hours of ASUS and MS updates which included numerous rebooting. I get it, not totally the fault of ASUS, but both MY ASUS and Microsoft Updating just doing their thang. Normally I would not mention the given updating requirements, but there were three updates that failed repeatedly over the first 2 days. Those being Realtek Semiconductor Corp Extension 6.0.0.68, Realtek Extension 9.21.3690.3, and Intel Corp Media 20.42.11265.1. The primary issue I experienced was not being able to determine the actual devices that required these updates. Using Device Manager typically points me to the culprit device, but it showed no conflicts. And online research provided no clues. But on the third day of use, and after general daily updates, all three prior update failures just disappeared on their own at boot up. Whatever… .

AI's top choice for your next Thin and Light PC!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THIS… Is the Asus Zenbook S in the 14” form factor, and it is paired with the brand new Intel Ultra 9 processor (gen 2) with all the AI promises you could imagine from microsofts ‘copilot’ built in software. Tack on a 3k Oled touch screen, 16 gigs of ram and a 1tb internal SSD and we have a pretty high end spec sheet. The big focus for the zenbook s and its competitors is the brand new Ultra 9 processor, and more importantly its AI capabilities. There are several options on the market currently with the Ultra 9 series 2 processor, but the Zenbook S, is at least on paper, not only the most cost effective… but honestly the best looking option from all the brands pushing the new Ultra 9 laptops. All that said, lets take a look at the new Zenbook S and the Ultra 9 Gen 2 processor housed inside! Ok! So out of the box I have to say the design on the back of the Zenbook is honestly one of my favorites. It is so subtle, but realllllyyyy pushes an elegant high end look that I really like. I received my Zenbook in their Zumaia Gray, which is on the darker end of gray. I honestly still cannot get over the curb appeal of this laptop before even opening it, and meeting 810H standards, is a bit tougher to rough up than its peers. Ok, so prying this laptop open, it passes the one hand test to open the lid, and honestly does it really well. Turning the laptop on you are greeted by a BEAUTIFUL 3k (2880 x 1800) 16:10 Oled screen that is packed with features such as 500nit peak brightness, 120hz refresh rate as well as being pantone-validated for color accuracy. Oh and did I mention it is touchscreen? I really couldn't ask for more out of a screen from a thin and light laptop. It is exactly as you would expect: deep contrast, dark blacks and honestly pretty bright peaks. Something that Asus goes under the radar on is just how good they are at screen and screen technology. They genuinely make some of the best oled and gaming oled screens on the market and are consistently pushing the boundaries, to me, asus is the porsche of the pc world in their design and technical approach. Something else Asus is exceptional at is the speakers, these are honestly some of the best speakers that I have tested. Probably the best speakers I have ever tested that aren’t in a macbook, and certainly more than enough for anyone using this as a media device. The speakers get LOUD, and do so without vibrating the chassis while I am typing which is a big +1 for me. The HK tuned speakers are certainly a new benchmark for me against other computers and something you just need to test out to believe. Before we get too far into it, I wanted to talk about the ports for a second. It comes with 2 thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port and your headphone jack on the left side of the laptop, with a USB 3.2 gen 2 port and battery status indicator on the right side. I have to say, I am a bit disappointed that it did not come with a SD card slot. This is a genuinely powerful pc and you can do a lot on it, so I am somewhat bummed that it wasn't included considering it is on some of its peers and more importantly, the macbook pro. That being said, the 72wh battery gave me DAYS of battery life usage, and I never had to worry about closing my laptop and opening it to a low battery. Asus has packed a bigger battery into a smaller form factor than most of its peers and honestly it is fantastic. For being just under half an inch thick and weighing around that 2.5lb mark, they really have balanced this laptop well enough for me to move past the SD card being left out, also considering it has WIFI 7 on it, your internet speeds will be off the chain should you also have a wifi 7 router and speeds. Something that I wanted to make its own part was the keyboard, I am a straight stickler when it comes to them, and it is a deal breaker to me if the keyboard sucks. I am constantly using my laptop for school, reviews and creative applications so if it is a bust here… it doesn't matter how good the rest of the laptop is. This keyboard is honestly pretty good, not my favorite, but it also isn’t a $2500 laptop. It has the power button as a physical button on the keyboard which I love and also has a new dedicated copilot key for that as well which is super nice. The keys have a short travel but more than I expected for how thin it is with a good thud at the end. This is certainly not a clicky keyboard, more of a mix between a membrane feel and clackly sound, but overall rather quiet. The big plus one here is that the backlighting gets BRIGHT, and for me that is awesome as I honestly love to have the northern star under my keys. So for me, it gets the exander stamp of approval on the keyboard! While we are looking in the direction of the keyboard, the trackpad is honestly amazing and exceptionally large. Asus has always tried to reinvent the trackpad, from older laptops having the calculator or number pad built into it, whereas the new Zenbook S allows you to adjust the sound and screen brightness by dragging your finger up or down on the left and right side respectively to adjust them. Which are just a few of the small nice features to have which gives it the old macbook touch bar utility feel. Doing the same thing on the top of the trackpad but left and right this time allows you to fast forward or rewind in your videos and shows which worked for me in every application that I tried which is super nice!! The last thing I wanted to touch on was the performance and the AI copilot, the performance is genuinely really good. It doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card, but I was able to do some gaming on lower settings. That being said, if you are looking for something that games or requires a decent graphs output… I would probably look elsewhere. But your typical roblox, small games and some fortnite were no problem, but I don’t think that many people are expecting a thin and light to game hard. In day to day uses, I could pull out CPU mark and the works but… this thing rocks. Sheets, coding and browser surfing were exceptional and with 47 tops (how we measure AI CPU performance), the AI performance is exceptional as well. So lets talk about copilot for a second, it is really good. Essentially a dedicated chat GPT button and interface on the laptop that can help you surf, code and almost anything you can think of. Here is the catch, it doesn’t actually enter the data for you, so you still have to copy and past the information, code or sheets into whatever you are doing. My favorite thing though was when I asked Copilot what it thought the best Ultra series 9 thin and light was, it picked the Zenbook S, which made me chuckle. Copilot is not chatgpt though, as it is made by microsoft whereas chatgpt is made by OpenAi but… if you know one, you really know the other. To wrap this up, and I have said this more and more recently, Asus really knocked it out of the park. From top to bottom, screen to specs, this is a really well balanced laptop that I see lasting the average user several years. This is certainly more than enough power for most people /students with a battery life to take you through all the hoops and hurdles of your day. While I wish it had a few more ports on it, I really didn’t find myself in a bind when using the Zenbook S. They do have the Zenbook S in a 16” form factor if that is more your flavor, and they also had it on display at my local bestbuy to test out (next to alllll the competitors) and type on before you pull the trigger. That being said, Best Buy has an excellent return policy and even better customer service, so you never have to worry about buying a product that you don’t like… so there is no harm in testing it out!

Solid High Performance Ultraportable OLED display
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing - This was received "double boxed" and is extremely well packed. The notebook is in a suspended box separated from the USB-C power adaptor. Opening the notebook box reveals a nicely presented and wrapped Ultrabook. For those of us who love the feel of a metal clad machine - you will love the finish ! The ceraluminum lid (Yes, that's ceramic aluminum) and metal notebook body are all textured creating an awesome look and function where you can open, close and carry without worrying about loosing your grip on it. Initial setup - This being a consumer laptop - I brought up Windows 11 expecting to have to remove a bunch of bloatware and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of it ! Thank you Asus for not crowding my new machine with junk software. My first stop was to install Microsoft Office 365 - that finished in a few short minutes. Visual Studio , various tools and some standard open source software that I use regularly. All of that was accomplished in less than twenty or so minutes. Finally, I installed steam plus updates and a handful of my favorite older games to see how they would run on the intel integrated graphics. Daily use - For reference, this is replacing a Gen 9 I7 16GB portable that I have been using for almost three years. The OLED display is incredible, especially when you are using a smaller screen size. Honestly if I had realized it would be this much better I probably would have a bought a newer machine two years ago. The incredible contrast makes it easy to read email, code, etc. - especially on dark or black backgrounds. Taking a break and watching a movie or show is beyond great as well - vibrant color and deep blacks. The audio this produces is shockingly good for such a thin portable. Battery life - It's around triple what I am used to. I'm able to use this all-day which no prior portable has ever been] able to do for me. This is including limited bursts of CPU intensive use. I was able to get through a full work day multiple times with the screen on for most of the day and still had enough power left to watch an episode of my current favorite show. I'm averaging between 6-9 hours for mixed (and often intensive) work per charge. Running Older Games - This is the perfect way to really test battery life - I'm able to run a number of older games from 2014-2021 at full 60+ FPS with no issue. This does heavily tax the battery but I've managed a few hours of gameplay using 40-60 percent of the battery. What I Love - Outrageous battery life OLED Display - Hands down the best display to have on a portable in every lighting scenario Ultraportable encased in METAL - not plastic ! Room for improvement- A Warmer LED for keyboard backlighting would be appreciated - it is extremely blue-white. ( The brightness is adjustable ! )

Super lightweight with a stunning display
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS Zenbook is a gorgeous laptop computer that has the ability to satisfy a wide range of users. The touchscreen display is nothing short of amazing. The native OLED 120Hz 3K display resolution of 2880x1800 delivers sharp text, extra-fine details, and rich, vivid colors. The display gives users a premium experience no matter what task you choose. Whether you are working on documents, editing photos, or watching movies, the 3K display is among the best I have ever seen on a Windows based notebook. The display has a perfectly balanced and sensitive touchscreen that works very much like a tablet with gestures. You can even customize the gestures in the settings to your liking. While dragging your finger around the screen a faint gray line follows your path making it even more accessible for everyone. A nice touch I must say and it doesn’t get in the way of your productivity. The screen is also really easy to keep clean with only a microfiber cloth. No cleaning solution needed. The build quality is excellent, however, I did find one minor issue, more on this later. Made out of a durable hybrid substance ASUS calls “Ceraluminum,” the laptop has a luxurious, premium feel, and resists fingerprints extremely well. Weighing in at only 2.65 pounds, and just under a half inch thick, its super sleek, lightweight design will have you taking it everywhere you go. The laser etched design on the top of the laptop is also a nice touch and shows that ASUS goes one step further to make their computers stand out among the crowd. The battery life has been among the best of any laptop computer I have ever used. Your mileage may vary, but I can comfortably use the Zenbook for general computer use all day without worrying about having the charger with me. That said, the charger is small so having it in your bag just in case you need it is good standard practice. The keyboard feels well built and has a nice feel when typing. I do miss having a 10 key, but there is simply no room on a 14” laptop. Keyboard backlighting is available with the press of the F4 button and has three brightness levels, including turning it off if you don’t need it. On my copy, I do have an issue with the “5” key. Straight out of the box, the backlight LED is non-functional (see attached photo). While this isn’t a deal breaker for me since I rarely use the backlighting feature, it is still something that needs to be mentioned. Out of all of the ASUS products I have owned and used over the last few decades, this is the first time I have ever experienced an issue like this. Performance has been fantastic so far. Utilizing the new Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, the Zenbook is extremely efficient and can handle most tasks with no issues whatsoever. For content creators, editing both photos and videos looks sharp and stunning on this display. This laptop can even get through 4K video editing if you create proxies before you get started on your project. A great practice to get into if you want to edit high resolution video on almost any PC. While the Zenbook isn’t designed for hardcore gamers, I have found that the integrated Intel ARC graphics can run Diablo IV perfectly, and again, the display looks amazing while doing so. This is the only PC game I play on a regular basis so it’s great that this laptop is so portable and I can take the game anywhere I go. Coupling this with the already generous battery life, getting some dungeon crawling and leveling up on-the-go is easier than ever. For optimal performance with high frame rate FPS games running at the highest settings, a dedicated gaming laptop may be a better choice, but for casual gamers, the Zenbook is plenty powerful enough. The built in Harmon/Kardon speakers sound nice if you don’t push them too hard. They have a really nice sound at lower to mid level volumes, but do start to break up at higher levels. I have found that if you keep the volume at 50 or below it does sound quite good. If you want full sound immersion, I would recommend using your favorite wired or Bluetooth headphones when possible. ASUS have included an audio combo jack for wired headphones and a microphone. The other ports include a single standard Type A USB 3.2 port, one full size HDMI port for easy dual monitor setups, and two USB C / Thunderbolt 4 ports. As a content creator, I do wish they would have included an SD card slot, but due to the thin profile of the notebook, I can see why that may have been difficult to include. I have personally been using a dock that includes an SD card slot, so this is not an issue. In conclusion, if you are looking for an ultra portable, lightweight, well built, versatile laptop computer that has quite possibly the best display I have seen to date on a 14” Windows laptop, the Zenbook should be high on your list. Do yourself a big favor and visit your local Best Buy to see one in person if they have one on display, because the display is just that good. ~~ Pros ~~ The screen is absolutely glorious! Battery life is exceptional Lightweight and thin Built solid, everything feels premium and responds well Easy to clean both the screen and the exterior ~~ Cons ~~ The speakers break up at high levels My copy has a bad LED under the “5” key

Super Lightweight, Long Battery, Limited Gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been interested in trying out "CoPilot" for the PC however I have always been limited to very lightweight laptops due to always traveling. I was very interested when I saw Asus come out with their Zenbook and wanted to give it a try. The unboxing was very simple , just the laptop and power brick however the setup was a very long process. I do not fault Asus for that as it was mostly Windows 11 itself that I had to go through for the downloads of updates and removal of bloatware. Luckily there was not much bloatware on the machine so after the windows setup process I was able to uninstall things like "French / Spanish" MS office products with ease. Right off the bat I noticed how easy it was to read the keys and the keyboard layout was perfectly spaced for my large hands. The mouse pad is very large and has the right amount of sensitivity. The speakers on here are mid range, being able to hear music , presentations easily. However I would recommend Bluetooth a headset or external speaker if wanting more depth in the sounds. The laptop games with a 1gig SD hard drive, 16gig Ram and 8gig integrated graphics card. The SSD read/write speeds are impressive and response times launching applications or navigation was very smooth. The display is crystal clear and really like the touchscreen that it offers. The Display is 120hz refresh rate which provides nice clarity upon reading text on the screen. 2048 M8 DDR 5 Ram modules are fast and glad to see it comes with 16gig as Windows 11 always takes up half of that. The battery life has been very impressive on max performance settings. I have found myself lasting multiple days without needing a charge. As for gaming , this machine is limited on game performance. Low to mid-low graphic settings should allow you to play most of the games out there on this machine. However don’t expect much performance as this is not really a gaming machine and more of work machine. Speaking of work, I have been really impressed with CoPilot so far. It is still learning from my interactions with it however its been very helpful in locating and suggesting information. I can tell it will still take time for CoPilot to be fully standalone however its a nice touch. Although I do recommend to read the privacy disclaimers upon using CoPilot. Overall this is a great laptop, very lightweight, fun to use copilot on and looking forward to the long lasting battery life.

*Initial Impressions* Intel is back?!?!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just received this week and it has been great! I got it in the gray color and i actually really like the design. It is having super lightweight at 2.6lbs. It has been nice for my use in school i just stash in my backpack and forget it's there. The battery life has also been terrific at about 12 plus hours or web browsing, typing docs and consuming content on it. The oled panel is decent with deep blacks and good brightness for indoor use. I have even played games through the Xbox game Laucher and was getting close to 70 FPS on medium settings on shadow of Mordor. So far on my limited test the integrated graphics are pretty solid. I recommend this laptop if you're looking for great battery life on a windows machine that won't run into combability issues like the new snapdragon chips do. This machine won't cut it for the power user though as these new chips are obviously targeting efficiency and for me it's a perfect blend of power and battery endurance in a premium chassis.

My Asus Zenbook s 14
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old Laptop decided to go to sleep for ever more on me. So I started looking around for a light weight, good battery life, large hard drive, 14" screen that also has good speed for processing. And this is what I found the Asus-Zenbook S 14. It has all of this and then some. 1tb ssd, Copilot+PC, Intel Ultra 7 processor............So far the only dislike is the top of the computer does show fingerprints or any other smudges, no big deal for me, my older computer showed some too. Now all I have to do is learn windows 11 and get newer software.

Great if you don't mind the trackpad
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cons: Trackpad was poor quality and hard to click. The keyboard's keycap material feels like its covered in a layer of powder that doesn't feel premium. The webcam is pretty bad. It gets hot when downloading udpates. Pros: It has dolby vision support, decent speakers, it is lightweight, and it has great battery life.

I was blown away with the quality of the intergreated graphics.
