I was excited when I opened the box but disappointed since I held it in hand and switched on. Looks are Good, deceiving. Handset lack grip, slippery metal frame. Display very dull, branded phone with lesser resolution look better. Speaker sounds like tunnel.

I'm going to preface my review by saying that I haven't been overly gentle with my phone, but I haven't broken anything either. My screen is still intact and there are a few small dents that barely visible on the back. Pros: - This phone can take a small beating. I use this at work and like I said, I'm not gentle with it. The only functionality issue with it currently is I have a couple of small but deep scratches on the screen which have made UI element in some apps practically inoperable if they are located there, the scratches are my fault anyway. - The battery life on this phone is excellent. After using this phone since march of 2017 I can say that I still get a full day's worth of use with 30% battery life leftover by the time I go to bed. - The screen is a 1280x720p screen with good color depth for an LCD and great black levels for an LCD. It won't blow away any AMOLED by any stretch, but it is a plus. - The rear camera is generally clear as day and low-light performance is average for a smartphone. - The fingerprint scanner is nice to have and is positioned really well so it's very comfortable to use. - The phone itself is comfortable to hold in one hand and is relatively easy to use one handed. However, for those with smaller hands, android 6 and 7 have built in one-handed operation modes. Cons: - Charging time, the battery life is great, but the few times I let it die, it took almost 4 hours to charge. - The ZenUI felt great for the first week or so, then it began to get laggy and slow. It's also full of pre-installed bloatware. Some of it, like the ASUS support app is relatively useful (in theory) but I did have issues opening that particular app (among others) until the android 7.0 update. I recommend installing a 3rd party app launcher. - it only supports up to wireless N. My Lumia 928 supported wireless AC over 5 years ago. I seriously think this should stop being considered a "premium" feature. - Android 6.0 was considerably slower on this device than I was used to. I recommend downloading the Android 7.0 update ASAP. -The front camera was consistently grainy for me. No amount of light was able to fix that. -ASUS removed h.264 video support at some point in a firmware update during the 6.0 era. Android 7.0 saw the return of this, but things like taking video in snapchat will still be laggy. Conclusion: after the Android 7.0 update, this phone became a much better option. The updates to the O.S. improved performance, and the battery life is great to have for people who only want to plug in at the end of the day. Certain features from my old Nokia were missed, like wireless AC and NFC support as well as hardware buttons, but the fingerprint scanner and the app support of android kept me going. I still recommend this phone as it's definitely good for the price; however, a new app launcher (I chose microsoft's launcher) helps immensely. I love ASUS' products and though I've had my dissappointments here none of them have been a dealbreaker.
