Swing and a miss for this one, tried it for a grand total of a day before I got frustrated with it. Way too many portals to jump through to get to what exactly you wanted to get from the watch. Button to activate the screen is in a god awful spot behind the watch. Signal constantly kept broken up to where it became as useful as a glorified watch.

Love this watch! Looks fantastic, people tell me all the time how much they like the look of this watch! Plus, its nice getting notices on a watch. I may add a mesh metal watchband later. I use a Mac and an IPad, but to keep cost down I'm using the Moto e TracFone linked to this watch. The Apple watch is just too expensive. The only tricky part is trying to link IOS with Android calendars, but not a show stopper. Pros: Nice look Light weight Easy to use Voice commands really work! Low price Battery last all day. Recharge just before I go to bed. Fast recharge! Looked like it was back to 90% in an hour. Con: None yet. Only had this a week now.

looked at the Moto + Pebble (tried one) + Asus... Moto battery life was a deal-breaker plus Moto appearance too "young" for an old geezer like me. i really wanted to like the Pebble/Steel due to appearance + battery life + full text notifications but kept pulling hairs off my arm trying to work the buttons and just didn't have the "wow" factor i like on a technology purchase - going from touchscreen to pushbutton just didn't feel right after using it for a day. ZenWatch won the day with good battery life + "sizzle" with color screen + price + conservative (very nice) appearance. setting up the android wear takes a learning curve but that's OK considering how new the smartwatch system is at the moment. overall a good purchase and will hold me over for a couple years until the market and hardware has a chance to go through a couple of iterations.

    Great intro to Google Wear

    Posted .

I will start out by first stating that this is my first Google wear device. That said, my 5 star rating is based on what can be expected of Google wear at this time, not necessarily what it should be. What I mean by that is, I would prefer to have a week of battery life, but I knew going in that battery life today is only about a day in these devices so I won't dock any stars for that. Having owned the watch for a few days now, the battery life seems to be about a day. To be clear, I mean a full 24 hours, not work day as we commonly refer to our android phones. I am told that by disabling the "unlock phone" feature, battery life is extended but I have not tried this. I was a little on the fence about getting a Google wear device at first. I wasn't sure if the benefits outweighed the cost. That said, I've found simply being able to see notifications without pulling out your phone can be very handy, especially at times when checking your phone would be inappropriate. Basically, its much easier to see if there is an emergency. I haven't spent much time working with the voice activated features but so far the voice recognition works about as well as it does on your android phone, but is a little more difficult to correct mistakes. I was also a little worried that the watch would be too big or draw negative attention. After wearing the watch for a few days, I have not found it to be too big or a nuisance. Yeah, if there was an option with a smaller bezel and overall device I would opt for that but I am happy with the current size. Lastly, I'll address the lack of a hear rate sensor that is always measuring your heart rate. At first I had thought this would bother me but so far I have never found myself wishing I could see my heart rate right away, rather than the few seconds the Zenwatch takes to detect it via contact with your fingers. All in all, I am happy with this purchase. As some reviews have stated, Google has not allowed device manufacturers to modify the Google Wear software the way they have with phones so that leaves the manufactures to compete with looks and hardware. The Zenwatch's insides are on par with the other high end watches on the market (aside from the active heart rate monitor and IP67 rating) but in my opinion is ahead in style and is $50 to $100 cheaper.

Smartwatches are not going to change the world, but for many of us they are a useful communication tool. I have been using the ZenWatch for about three weeks with a Google Nexus 6. It was easy to setup, just had to install a few apps on my phone. With those apps I can easily control what notifications I receive and things like watch face and security. As a watch collector I chose the ZenWatch over the competitors primarily for looks, as all of the android wear devices pretty much do the same thing. I like the style, looks like my tonneau watches that I enjoy wearing. Battery life is fine. I have never run out of juice, although after a full day and evening of use it gets down to the 15-20% area. The charger is a little clunky, hopefully that is re-engineered in future releases.

    Nice looking smart watch

First , I really love this watch. It looks great and most android watches have the same basic functions, so you may as well get a classy looking watch. One of the reviews was right. It was difficult to get it to update the watch faces, but just let the watch update the software and that will fix that issue. As a note, load the two programs (android wear and the Zen watch manager) that it mentions in the start up manual first, and you are ready to start adding functions to the smart watch. It is easy to learn to use and so far it has no glitches in the operating system. It only cost $199.99, which I feel is a perfect price for what it is. Actually, for the look and functionality of the watch $250.00 would be fine. You can tell it is well crafted and really looks great. I would definitely purchase this again. Except for a $350 LG Urbane watch , that has everything in terms of options, this would definitely be my first option. But, I did not want to spend that much for a watch I intend to wear daily. The Moto 360 would be my second choice. They both have the same basic specs (processor, ram, and operating system). At $199.00, I do not know what comes close to it in it's price range.

WAY more useful than I'd imagined

I got it with modest expectations...mostly to use at gigs for keeping track of set times and texting myself a setlist. Yep, worked fine for that..... What I DIDN'T expect was how handy it is for several things; I'm a Note3 user, and while I really like the screen size for reading, its quite the behemoth to wrangle in and out of the holder, or worse, my pocket. The ZenWatch relieves me of that hassle by about 80%...seriously. Notifications..... I use the phone a LOT, often the notifications of an email from work get lost in the cacaphony of my day. No more. The watch gives me a little bzzzt on my wrist. So far I ALWAYS notice that tactile reminder....plus, its very discreet. So I can quickly glance to see the subject, and with a tap read the body or just ignore until later. Perfect. So THEN .... its a swipe/tap to voice-respond. Same with texts. I LOVE that it shows me incoming PHONE calls with ID and the ability to answer or reject. Again....if the phone is quiet, the whole process of observing and deciding to answer or not can be done WITHOUT pulling the phone. So then if you choose to answer from the watch there's just enough delay to let you get the phone out of the holder/pocket/purse and proceed with jibber-jabbering. Also....no more sprinting across the room to tend to the ringing phone; just glance at the wrist, answer if you want, and walk to the phone. Very cool. The last thing that I LOVE is that the watch defaults to "Auto-send". Example: Text comes in, you choose to swipe and tap "reply" to speak your response. Poof! it auto-sends with no further action necessary on your part. Yes, you have the option to tap & re-speak in case it didn't capture your reply correctly, but you gotta be quick to tap cancel. This is the only thing that could use some tweaking by the Operating Sys developers. The time you have to "start" speaking is fine, but once you start speaking, you CANNOT pause or it starts to send. Again, if you werent done, or its wrong, you can tap & redo. But you GOTTA be quick. I find that I have to speak without pause, including punctuation. For example "Yes-I'll-get-the-bread-period-Do-we-need-milk-too-question-mark". If I paused after "period"...POOF, its into send-mode during which I can tap-cancel & re-enter....or just let it go & reply again w/ the milk question. I got used to that REALLY quick though, and I've actually come to love it. I thought these reviewers that reported compliments might have been exaggerating, but believe it or not, I too have gotten a handful of compliments on its look. This is no frivolous gadget, it really streamlines and increases phone related productivity & convenience. 3 thumbs up. ;)

I will have to say I researched the heck out of smart watches before purchasing this watch. I also tried them all on. This watch is so thin and classy. It has greatly helped me at work. I have saved so much time not having to take my large Note 3 out of the holster all the time to reply to emails, texts and Hangout messages. It also is great for doing a quick search on the web. I use the watch between 6:30 am and 11:00 pm before charging. It typically only runs down to between 30 and 40 percent. I do keep the display off which comes on with a quick flick of the wrist.

Ive been using this watch for a few months and it was been a great experience. My first concern was about battery life and i have to say that for thismwatch it lasts a whole day with normal use. Battery life is a limitation for all smart watches, but this one does a good job. The design is beautiful and the strap is very comfortable. I got a steel strap and use it some times. It looks good with that one as well, and changing it is pretty easy. Summarizing i love this watch. If you want one i recommend you to get a screen protector, i didnt and some scratches started to appear.

I've been a Pebble user for the last year and I really liked it. It does what I wanted it to do very well - mainly send notifications. But the design of the Pebble is just a bit cheap and geeky. I have been looking forward to getting the Zenwatch ever since it was announced. I received it yesterday and I love it. The design is really beautiful. It's not bulky and is very comfortable on my wrist. The software is very good, but I downloaded some much needed apps - Evernote for Wear, a calendar app, and a good calculator. I also downloaded an app launcher because it takes too many swipes to get to the Start launcher. I was really interested in the Moto 360, but after really looking at it, it's kind of bulky looking and sticks up off your wrist a bit too much for my taste. It seems like it would bang on things. The Zenwatch seems to sit much nicer on the wrist. I also decided to go with a square screen because the majority of apps are going to be optimized for square screens and the Zenwatch is the nicest looking square screen watch in my view. A couple of minor beefs: I'd be a little happier if the vibrate on the watch was a bit stronger. It's a bit too subtle for me and I wonder if I'll miss some messages if I'm in the middle of doing something. The Pebble had a nice strong vibrate. And the voice recognition is good, but it's kind of slow. I'm also waiting for some great chronograph-like watch faces. I'm sure they'll come in time. Overall, I'm very happy with this beautiful smartwatch. Asus has done an excellent job with it. And it's less expensive than the Moto 360, LG G Watch R, and some others. One weird ordering thing: When I ordered it (11/13#, Best Buy kept pushing out the shipping/arrival date - all the way out to the middle of December. Then yesterday #11/17) I got a message that it had shipped. When I got home from work it was already sitting on my front step. Something is a bit buggy with their ordering/shipping system.

This watch definitely looks great. Way better than my old Pebble Watch. The band that comes with it is uncomfortable, because it pinches my wrist where the metal clamp is located. The Android Wear OS is definitely a work in progress. It works good for the most part, but occasionally i lose connection to my phone.

The battery lasts me all day. I have owned EVERY Android Wear watch and this is only the second one that gets me through an entire day. (the other is the Lg G watch R) That alone earns a recommendation from me. Only Con is the heart rate sensor which is flaky at best.

This smartwatch can only be described as the best of the current offerings based on function, appearance, and price. It is a little on the large side, but if you are an average sized man it should not look unappropriate on your wrist. The attention to design detail is impressive. There are no crowns to snag on clothing or the world around you. The Snapdragon processor is amply powerful for the tasks this device can perform. The easy change band makes wearing this watch every a real possibility. It looks just as nice with a suit as with jeans and a t-shirt. It has quickly become and indispensable everyday wear item for me.
