I returned one to Asus weeks ago under warrrany and I am still waiting for it to be repaired. Asus refused to send me a replacement while my device was being repaired. Unreliable equipment and bad waranty support.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Now the node (the second router in AP mode) will not recognize the 5 Ghz backhaul and downgrades to 2.4 Ghz. I’m only getting 1/10th of my internet speed from the node. There is no known fix. ASUS’ solution is to reset both routers every night. That’s not a solution. For a premium price, you don’t receive a premium product. The required router app is simple enough to use, though.

Failure After One Day

Drops wifi access between nodes

I've contacted ASUS several times, and they can't seem to fix the issue. (All settings and lights are working correctly.) I doubt they'll cover the warranty, which means I'm going to have a $450 non-mesh router.

DO NOT BUY FROM BEST BUY

They only sent one with no reason (most likely oversold them). Spent over 2 hours and 3 phone calls. Still no explanation and proof the second set is coming. The worst supervisor Nicole did not care and was not helpful at all. Basically said she does not care if I buy from BEST BUY again. Well I won't. But still waiting on the second set...

Didn't work for me

Worked for a few days, then speeds started to get gradually slower and slower. Spent lots of time troubleshooting, but then speeds got below 1 megabyte and was unable to stream Netflix. Unable to get technical support during COVID-19. Hooked back up my old router and returned the ASUS system it. Was easy to install, just didn't work.

Would not work with my devices

But none of my older devices would work with this mesh system. My Nest thermostat and other devices would not work. I even turned off wifi6 and tried other options... Too much work for a mesh system at this price. I returned it.

Worst warranty repair experience ever- do not buy!

I filed a claim and shipped the nonworking router to be replaced. It took 3 months and 10 phone calls and 30 emails to get sorted.

worst mesh routers

Not worth the money, unreliable.

Choppy and horrible connectivity on 2nd Node

Disappointed

This one had better ratings on the net. But we kept having tons of issues with it. The app is the best WiFi app I have ever seen.

Works great after firmware updates.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this from another vendor several months ago as it had been mostly in backorder at Bestbuy. The initial setup was very smooth but it did have some stability issue with the shipped firmware from 3/12/2020. After the first firmware update, there was still some connection issue until a reset. Then, it became very stable. Now it has been through 4 firmware updates (6 if you count from original release) and I have not experienced any issue. Just considering the frequent update of firmware, this is a good sign of support they provided. I had it set up with wired backhaul initially when there was stability issue. It has been running on the designated 5GHz band for backhaul for months now and there was disconnection of the mesh node once that I needed to restart the router. I think that may have happened right after the last firmware update a few weeks ago. I have the remaining two bands separated instead of "Smart Connect" as I like more manual control of the router. The app on Android is nice and easy to use, but you need to use the web interface for complete control. The Zenwifi is great for high bandwidth streaming around the house. The 5GHz band has decent coverage in my 2000sqft 2 floor house (not counting the basement). The 2.4GHz band is needed in a couple far corners inside the house, the garage, driveway, and backyard. Wifi Analyzer shows pretty strong signal all around the house. I am pretty happy this mesh system.

Great mesh system when setup with an Asus router.

Getting the AX6600 up and running took only a few minutes and when set up with my 6E capable router the system automatically used the wifi 6 channel as the backhaul channel. I don't know how it will be with a non-Asus router or a router that isn't 6E capable but with mine it was extremely easy to setup and use. The only drawback is the $$$.

Good hardware compromised by buggy software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.While replacing my Eero Pro 2nd Gen with WiFi 6 mesh due to a recent gigabit internet upgrade, I researched all the options. ASUS seems to have the performance and price value advantage. Here's my experience...Once working, WiFi is fast. Full wired internet speed at 970 Mbps (Comcast's gigabit service is slightly less than 1 gigabit); 5GHz 11.ac wireless gets 850 within 30 ft., 650 at 75 ft., 620 50+ ft. beyond walls. No dead spots in my 4200 sf home with 3 levels. The hardware setup is truly excellent. Here comes the 2 stars less...the set up is fairly easy if your network is simple and you can do all of it with the mobile app. Any complexity, however, such as network drives, fixed IP printer(s), home automation servers, etc., you will find the software quite 'buggy.' The web interface is the best way but access is often frustrating due to frequent locked out, SSL certificate mismatch, and the numbers of reboots required to get things done!! I've never encountered a network device that requires that many and frequent reboots, which takes about 5 to 6 min. between the router and the mesh unit. Any configuration change, reboot, wait, and then previously connected devices all dropped from the network, even the wired ones. It then necessitates a reboot on the client device(s) too. The management software is fairly comprehensive for home networks and the mobile app is good. I think that's the reason why the device's management software actually has a built in 'schedule reboot' option in order to prevent drop outs. Better software would make this product a true 5 star success. As it is, not robust enough to be a winner. Therefore a conditional recommendation to only users with networking experience, and tons of patience for reboots!!!

A Disaster!

However, several problems soon surfaced. We have two laptops in our home. One has a WiFi 6 network adapter and the other an AC adapter. On both, when you open them up after going into sleep mode, the speed has dropped dramatically. The other issue is that we rely on WiFi calling due to poor reception in our home. At least when it comes to iPhone 11s, there is a consistent issue where the other party cannot hear you. I have worked with ASUS for 10 days spending countless hours going through their recommendations. Nothing has solved the speed dropping issue. The steps they have give me to resolve the WiFi Calling issue are vague, incomplete, and beyond my technical abilities. I finally gave up and brought the Linksys MX10 and right out of the box it has worked flawlessly. I now have a could of expensive paper weights on my hands. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

Great all around solution- 2500 sq ft home, 65 dev
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great range; covers every inch in our 2500 square foot home with 5 ghz, and the 2.4 frequency hits the fence. We live on about 2/3 acre. We have about 65 devices at any given time, including: comprehensive security system with multiple cameras and monitoring devices, smart home devices such as Nest and several lights, Roomba, connected appliances and smart televisions. Our kids frequently use school issued laptops for their work, and I work from home fulltime. I should disclose that I have a background in PC and network support, so I was/am interested in the "behind the scenes" and advanced setup of the router. My initial setup was the "plug and play", which was very simple. I have gone back and tweaked quality of service, parental controls and security. There is a great feature set, with the router and web interface. The 2.4/5/guest networks give the functionality I needed. I couldn't be happier.
