My first two smartphones were Windows Phones. I always liked how everything was where I expected it to be (settings, apps, etc), but Windows Phone 7 was fairly dull to look at and was too simple to appease my inner geek, so I had switched to Android for a few years. I bought this on a whim just to install Windows Phone 10 preview, play with it, and then give it to a friend. I was pleasantly surprised at how far Windows Phone has come since then. So much so that my Nexus 6 has been sitting on my desk collecting dust for the past two weeks now. Let me say that I don’t play games, take selfies, or send people pictures of every meal I eat. I need a phone that is more grown-up and focused on productivity. The native Outlook app on Windows Phone is by far the best out there for me. It seamlessly integrates with my personal E-mail, work E-mail and calendars for both. The Groove music app from Microsoft is pretty solid and works well with OneDrive. Considering the overwhelming majority of people use Windows computers, a Windows phone just makes sense. They work very well together and if you know how to work one, you can use the other easily. Overall this phone is bittersweet for me. While the phone is awesome, it feels cheap compared to my Nexus 6 that I bought about six months ago for $600 from AT&T. I like a phone that has some weight to it. But to be honest, any hardware comparison between the Lumia 640 and Nexus 6 would not be fair as one is high-end and the other is a pre-pay budget phone. If you’re on the fence about Windows Phone, the Lumia 640 is a safe bet to give it a try. AT&T can unlock them for free (search online for how to do this). Considering the low cost of this phone in the US, the only complaint I have is the AT&T splash screen that shows when you first turn it on can’t be removed. I’m have a regular AT&T account, but I hate seeing their logo on my phone. But at least all of the AT&T bloatware can be uninstalled easily. As for me: If I weren’t stuck with an overpriced paper-weight, I’d be looking at an unlocked Lumia 950 now. That’s what I get for tempting fate.

Software and layout of phone were great but phone had two major issues. Apps were not supported very well and Microsoft will not support anymore. Secondly the phone locked up after a month and there is no way to reset it.

Windows phones are never anyones first choice and the app store is definitely lacking compared to iOS and Android but honestly, this is one of my favorite phones. it really is a solid phone and even the cheaper predecessor Lumia 635 was a solid phone. for $80 its a good buy

No-brainer. Best value. Right timing to own one. Best mobile OS, upgradable to Windows 10 Mobile, long life cycle. Highly commendable hardware for the price. Best-in-class camera. microSDHC/microSDXC friendly, for all your stuff, up to 128GB. Decent screen. Responsive, fluid, snappy. Fun, useful, modern user interface. APPs? Good enough for all my needs! A device for the initiated, objective, intelligent, practical, special human breed. ;-)

I started out with the Lumia 520 about 2 years ago.... and haven't looked back since! As I get older, a larger screen is definitely appreciated. This Lumia 640 at $29.99 is the BEST VALUE that I've found, and the upgrades from my 520 are wonderful: 5" screen, Front facing camera, flashlight and SO MUCH MORE. If you're an Android user, it may take some getting used to the Windows 8.1 operating system BUT if you have a Windows based computer ~ SYNCING between devices is FANTASTIC :)

Extremely happy with the Lumia 640 LTE. It has some very nice features, easy to use. Inserted a 64GB (it's max is a 124GB) micro SD card. Went to eBay and purchased a yellow battery cover. It uses AT&T which is used by H2O Wireless.

Some would immediately dismiss the phone because it is Windows. I happen to like Windows Phone because of the way it displays information I am able to be more productive but at the very least you should try it out for yourself without someone else telling you it's not good. It might not have all the first party apps but in most cases their are good third party apps. Compared to other phones in the same price range the speed is better and the camera is better. For a cheap smartphone it feels like you are getting a great value. It also can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile once approved by AT&T which means you won't be outdated as many of the new Windows apps are Universal and need Windows 10. It has an SD card slot which, unlike others, can easily be used to store most apps meaning you aren't limited to just 8GB for apps. For a little more this cheap phone can have more useable storage than much more expensive phones. If you don't need to have every single first party app out there and just want a great value of a phone that integrates nicely with Windows 10, this phone does great.

Going back to my old phone

I've been using a Windows 6 phone for years. I like the way it can sync Outlook directly to my desktop. But the phone is getting old so I thought I would try the new Windows 10 phone. Unfortunately it is missing this critical feature. I'm sure you can use some convoluted method of syncing on the internet using the lame web Outlook. But that doesn't work for me. I think I will go back to my old phone and donate the new one to the Salvation Army.

I have been using this phone for more than 5 months. Got it in thanks giving deal for the same price. This is the most awesome phone any one can get for even shelling 300+ bucks. The phone hardly froze during the span of usage I had been having. I have recommended this phone to more than 20 of my friends and every one bought and are happy with the functionality. The Iphoners and androiders will always be jealous about the Windows phoners comparing the apps availability, as they have shelled out a good amount of money in getting similar features. Your app store or play store is clogged with every tomato potato apps created by some jobless jokers however the windows store is short and sweet with the apps that are generally needed and heavily used. i love this phone very mcuh and i am giving only a few pros here. every feature in this phone is a gem of its kind Pros: 1. the most awesome feature of this phone is the offline GPS which beats any other GPS. 2. all other features are common in windows phone 3. the camera is far good and beats all the cameras in the higher price range 4. the best part in this phone is i was able to upgrade to windoes 10 mobile and the looks and feel are awesome 5. The weight is very less for such a big screen Cons there are no major cons apart of the less variety of apps available for a windows phone

Unlike low to mid range Android phones I have used that are "glitchy" This windows 8.1 phone runs smooth and quick. Even though the hardware specs seem less impressive than many Androids, windows works great and the internet experience is smooth. I have found that after the initial curiosity with the 2 million Android apps, I just have no use for almost all of them. The available windows apps are far less but include what I need. The screen looks nice and the live tiles are awesome. Of course, windows interacts well with Office documents and the camera is good enough for the average user. The phone seems to just work well. I bought my young son a Lumia 635 a while back and was really surprised by the quality experience. For $60 at Best Buy you just can't beat it and if you think Windows is not for you then you may be missing out. I have no intention of paying $800 for any phone and even though this is being sold as a GoPhone it works fine with my AT&T monthly plan. I just put my SIM card in the new phone and it was ready to go.

It freezes up all the time. Generally, extremely slow functioning phone! I think both the OS and the hardware contribute to this.

this phone is just amazing. i have been doing lots of research on Lumia phones in past few months as i was seriously looking for an alternative to my 3 year old Nexus 4. i saw this phone at sale in BestBuy and could be happier. no complains on call quality or wifi/data connectivity. i am getting full 4g speed on my t-mobile connection. its almost identical or comparable to my old nexus 4 phone. this phone 1. has a very good display, its not full 1080p HD but i doubt you will observe any difference. 5.0" display is beautiful. pictures looks very good and text is crisp an clear. 2. phone weight is just right and you will not have any issues holding it during long bus/train commute. 3 build quality is very good. covers are made up of plastic but they are pretty comfortable to hold for single hand operation. 4. i am very much impressed with battery life. i am getting solid 1 full day with an overnight charging. you can understand plight of an android user (specifically nexus 4) who need to always carry a charger just to ensure phone does not get switched off in the middle of day. i guess those days are gone for me. no more carrying charger with this phone. 5 expandable memory. this one if super cool. best of all i just updated my phone with Win 10 technical preview and believe me its wonderful. i have been an early adapter of windows 10 on my laptop and participated in insider preview and i can confirm that Win 10 works on this phone without any hitch or any issue. i did a clean install since i did not wanted 8.1 to win 10 migration. it went super smooth. you only need to ensure you have a good wifi connection since its close to 600mb+ download. i see lots of people cribbing about app store and limited availability of app for windows phone. but i never had such issues since my requirement is limited and all the apps i needs (productivity, social network, messaging/voice and basic games) were available directly in windows store. Andorid and iOS has lots of apps available in its store but how many of us really make use of all of them? this phone is worth the price and you will not be disappointed.
