I have had these for 3 years now and the silver or aluminum is tarnishing. I have started to replace them with monster cable black MKII gold plate quick connectors and I feel like the monster cable ones are made of better quality. But there is a price difference.

Gold was chosen as a plating material because it's a 'noble' metal and resistant to corrosion. It was never chosen for its sonic properties. Ironically, many modern gold plated connectors use a brass base or some other alloy rather than pure copper as it’s cheaper, as well as being easier to machine. These connectors are then nickel plated and polished. Then a very thin layer (around 2 or 3 microns) of gold plating is applied to the nickel. Now the connector looks nice and shiny, but it’s not the gold that’s making it shiny – it’s the layer of nickel underneath. Because gold is so often equated with jewelry, it’s often assumed that connectors should shine in much the same way.

Silver, on the other hand, was chosen for its sonic properties. Although silver will tarnish easier than gold, it will not corrode. It is purely a cosmetic issue and will in no way compromise sound quality. You may want to clean the connectors once or twice a year with a standard silver cleaning product if the tarnishing bothers you, but we think that's a small price to pay for superior performance.

AudioQuest connectors are “Direct-Gold” or “Direct-Silver” plated meaning that the gold or silver plating is applied directly over the copper base. There is no intermediate layer of nickel. This is why our connectors sound better. audioquest

Depending on your knowledge of wiring, etc. 12gauge, etc., you're going to want to ensure that your speaker wire is of the thickness that'll not slip through even though tightened.

Solid banana plugs. Silver coated for better audio quality. Fits snuggly into port, dont have to worry about them falling out. Easy to install and love the allen wrench to secure speaker wire in terminal.

While a bit pricier than I'd want, they are well built, the screws hold the wire in place, the sound quality is excellent, and the convenience of plugging and unplugging them from my Denon receiver gives me peace of mind. The best banana plugs sold by Best Buy (avoid the Rocketfish banana plugs AT ALL COSTS!)

one of the most reliable plugs I have encountered

    Posted .

Connection is very reliable, thanks to the springy shape of the plug making for good contact with the mating surface. Wire is held firmly in place, thanks to two screws making contact with the wire itself and a third screw clamping down on the insulated part of the wire.

    Not worth the money

After considering these connectors for my X2 cables I was not very happy.first I thought twice paying 30 bucks for two pairs my main reason in mind was to keep it all audioquest so I sprung for the extra bucks, second the build quality isent worth the money although they look nice I expeiremented with Sewell connectors and got the same results as these for much less money and they are built better.connectors are connectors there is no reason why you have to spend a lot of money on banana plugs just to have a popular brand name on it,there are connectors out there that are better and give the same results, not to bad mouth audioquest but cmon make a product that's worth 30 bucks.something with there rca audio cables I just bought.I was better off keeping monster cables which are thicker and cheaper.

These are the SureGrip 300. Doesn't look like it though in the picture because the speaker/amp labels you need to manually apply are not on the item.
