    HomeKit works if you have a new apple tv. Well, it does work IF you are away from home, even though it takes a bit for it to find the lock. But if you are at home away from the the lock (say in your bedroom), you cannot access the lock. You have to be near the lock for Bluetooth to see it. So homekit does not work inside your home, only if you are away! That needs to be fixed. Otherwise, it works.

    I like the lock. It works for the most part. I've been having some issues with it and siri home but i think it's more of an Iphone7 issue then an actual August issue. Feature to auto lock and unlock is a great feature, too. I pull in my driveway and get a notification that my door unlocked for me. I also have it set to auto lock shortly after it's unlocked. I share the app with my friends and girlfriend and they not have a key to my home. Great part is, you can control if they always have accces, one time access, or you can set what day(s) and time(s) they have access. There's an optional keypad that I wouldn't buy if I were you. Really though it does what I need it to and pretty well for the most part. I'd buy it if I were you. OH and also it's really big and stands out a ton but you get used to it.

    As soon as I purchased this lock I had issues. Auto unlock wouldn't work and sometimes the unlocking feature wouldn't work at all. I have the connect device as well. After about 6 months, the lock would just stop working, and I was locked out twice. The only way to get it to work again was to remove the batteries. After trying to get this fixed through August support, they finally admitted that there is a defect that causes the lock to stop working and they are working to fix it. The thing is they only admitted 1 month after my warranty expired. Now they won't do anything to help me despite the fact that I contacted them for support on this issue well before the warranty period was up.

    This device works great if you have an Apple TV that supports HomeKit because it allows me to unlock the door remotely. The included August app to unlock the device only works via Bluetooth when you are near the door.

    I purchased one of these August units to test in a smart home setting. Installation went somewhat smooth and setup was easy. The issue we have here is with the bluetooth functionality used to lock and unlock the door. The auto unlock feature is designed to turn on when you get within the geofence of your home to get the app ready to unlock the door. As you approach the door, it should unlock. Sounds great on paper, but rarely works. It can takes minutes for the app to connect to the lock to unlock it, if it ever does connect. It got so frustrating, we started to just use the key, walk in and manually lock the door. However after a few minutes, the door unlocks on its own. We have also had times sitting in the living room where we heard the door unlock. Looking at the app, one of us unlocked the door while sitting there with auto unlock. This is dangerous as you can't rely on the door staying locked. You may not even know that it randomly unlocked. We had to turn on the auto lock feature just so when this happens it will at least lock itself in 5 minutes. I worked with tech support for nearly two months. They kept asking for random screen shots that would not show them anything other then what I told them. I purchased a wifi module in hopes it would help the problem in which it did not.. In the end, support told me to buy another lock and try it out. No thanks. Could be a neat toy, but if you value your families lives, i would suggest staying away from this and getting a Kevo. I have never experienced random unlocking with the kevo.

    i wanted to loved the August Smart Lock; i'd been wanting it since it was being crowdfunded. finally, i decided to bite the bullet and get it, plus the wireless bridge so i could access it remotely. First, installation was a little more tedious than it really needed to be, but that was mostly user error and lack of instructions. Second, the auto-unlock feature was sporadic. sometimes it would already be unlocked by the time i got to the door; other times, it took up to 5 minutes to recognize my phone was right next to the lock. and it was the end of july, in dallas tx---hot and humid is an understatement. Thirdly, at the culmination of it all, it locked me out. locked me out of my own home. It could have been avoided, but i'd installed it on a keyless deadbolt--one of those Manager Lockout deadbolts. i had never read of anyone getting locked out or it being completely unresponsive, and figured the only time i'd have to worry is if i ignored the battery level warning. this was only 5 days into having it installed and it was COMPLETELY. UN. RESPONSIVE. i couldn't connect via bluetooth, wifi, nothing. i had to break into my own apartment after 45 minutes. and august care? not open 24hrs; no emergency contact lint; nada..."we'll call you back within 24hrs during normal business hours." my wifi was still on and i had connectivity. my bluetooth was still on because i could control my bluetooth-enabled light switches. there was no reason for the unresponsiveness of the smart lock. i am disappointed to say the least. i really wanted to love it. but in the end, it became more trouble than it was worth.

    Major issue w/o opening it

    I received this as a gift. I did no prior research. I have a door with a large glass widow pane. My current deadbolt set up has a key hole on both sides to lock the door. This is so that you can't just smash the glass and then reach in to turn a handle. This lock will not fit this purpose. It went back. I need a more secure option. If you have a door that doesn't have a large glass pane it might work good for you, not me.

    Purchased two of these locks. I primarily enter via garage door, and my husband enters via side porch door. We set the locks to open automatically when our individual cell phones get near our preferred door. This works great!

    Not Android Compatible

    After waiting 2 weeks for August to ship 2 screws compatible with my Schlage lock, I was able to install the lock only to find out the following. Simply stated, this product should not be advertised as compatible with Android. If you have an Android phone head over to the Play Store before you purchase and take a look at the myriad 1-star reviews for the August app - it currently has an embarrassing 2.6 average. I wish I had seen this as the reviews are all stating essentially the same thing - the Android app does not like unlocking the lock. It's buggy as can be, has a hard time finding the lock when nearby, and Auto-Unlock will most certainly fail you the vast majority of the time. Any lock should be able to lock and unlock, and the August Smart Lock only succeeds in the former with Android, making it a complete failure in my eyes. That said, it DOES work as advertised with iPhones. There have been a couple of times Auto-Unlock hasn't worked properly for my boyfriend after leaving the area, but not enough to call it unreliable on the iPhone. So my recommendation really boils down to the phone you plan on using this lock with. If you and your family all have iPhones, great, you're good to go and the product description and specs apply to you. If you have any Android phone, steer clear because the Smart Lock will not function as advertised until they can ship a properly functioning app, and they've had 2 years to do so. Right now you can consider it to be in the alpha stage of compatibility, and thus should not be sold as working with Android.

    Auto Unlock does not...

    The only 2 features of this lock that make it worth more than any old Deadbolt are: Remote Lock (oh no. Did I lock the door??) Auto unlock and lock. (No more fumbling for keys) Remote lock works...sometimes.. It can take many clicks of the icon in the mobile app to get a connection.. Auto lock / unlock has NEVER worked for me. I'm fairly technically savvy being a web application developer for 20+ years. Tried all the help notes. (support for this product is very poor BTW. Limited to some brief paragraphs of text and in which they suggest you search the web for help..) Auto unlock has worked twice in the 6 months I have had this, and both times I was already in the house... I have a 200.00 deadbolt that is also rather ugly. Although it is easy to grab.. It also makes a crude scratching sound when you turn it which seems uncharacteristic of the slick styling of the lock..

    It is a great smart lock where you can lock/unlock with your phone, but does not work without add-ons when you want to lock/unlock remotely. To do it remote you either need an adapter or the recepient needs to have an app, which is not a convenient feature

    Bad product, horrendous support

    Product could not be installed, even if my previous lock was in the list of compatible locks. I can understand product and/or documentation defects. But the big problem with August is their support. Absolutely horrible. I've had a problem with the installation (I am an engineer and I am pretty good installing things), I called this guys (30 minute wait), I was told to leave the screws kind of loose despite of what the documentation said. That would not work either so the technician told me that we should schedule a FaceTime call with a supervisor 1pm EST. I specifically asked if it was going to be 1 pm sharp. "Yes, sharp, 5 minutes delay at the most". 1:30 pm EST I was still waiting for the call, so I called. A technician told me that "a FaceTime call was scheduled but he was unable to confirm when would that be as he was in Texas and the supervisor in charge was in California". I asked to speak to another supervisor. They kept me an extra 15 minutes waiting... no supervisors available. Still waiting for the FaceTime call. You don't want to deal with this guys. They are not good at what they do, they are not smart and, worse, they lack attitude. Needless to say, I will return the product.

    The Software that goes with iPhone and andriod phones is very glitchy. Doesnt work. Many times the users given access are not able to use their Key pad code to lock or unlock. I had to reinstall at least 5 or 6 times. Its has been a pain. I removed this lock and got a conventional key pad lock from Kwikset. This gadget is expensive and waste of money. I am trying to see if the company will take back the August lock and key pad.

    Lock failed to lock while I was out of town. Had to leave my front door unlocked for 3weeks. Tech support was no help, basically said to return which I couldn't do since it was beyond 30days. You can't rely on this lock when away from it... or if if you plan on giving others access unless you always carry or give out a key as well, which makes it pointless and expensive.

    This product was delayed four times and still has the same connectivity issues as its predecessor. Enjoy standing outside your house waiting for the lock to connect.
