Very easy to install and operate over the existing door lock. This is huge if you do not want to change your existing lock. Looks a little bulky but not terrible, and I like that you can still operate the lock manually via turning or the key if needed. The big issue will be battery life-it does require 2 special lithium batteries.

This August Door Lock 4th Generation works great!

This August door lock works perfectly! There are many features and settings available so you can customize it to how and when you want the lock to open and close. I set mine to open when I get home so I’m not fumbling for keys at two in the morning! It uses your existing door lock so your key still works! When leaving the house I yell ‘Alexa, lock the front door’ and then I close the door before it locks without me having to pull my keys or phone out of my pocket. I gave this four stars because I have to replace the batteries once a month so it does get expensive when you pay $10 for a set of batteries!

I loved the idea of it and it was reported by many sites to be the best door lock for home automation so I got it. However, after having it for almost a month now, I have noticed that it doesn’t work all the time. First, I never got the DoorSense feature to work because it would never get configured in the app. I would do all the steps to configure it and when it got to the finalizing step, it would just sit there with the spinning circle. I would wait for minutes and then have to close and reopen the app after it became unresponsive. So without this feature, I won’t get the alert if the door was left ajar. Another issue I had was that when I use the app to lock/unlock it, it would lag a few seconds, but then do it. However, it would only work the first time. So I would open the app to lock/unlock the door and it would do it after a few seconds, but if I tried to do it again, it becomes unresponsive. I’ve noticed that I would need to close and reopen the app to get it to work. So basically, I would have to close and reopen the app each time just to lock/unlock it. I couldn’t just press the button once to lock it and then again to unlock it or vice versa. Adding to the issues I’ve experienced, the auto-unlock feature only works half the time. It has always notified me once I left the neighborhood (about 2 mins after I drive off), but it does seem to have trouble detecting that I’m arriving home. So sometimes I’ll be approaching the front door and can hear it unlock, but then there are times when I get to the front door and it won’t unlock. Sometimes it’ll unlock once I get to the front door and start looking for the key, but that was the main purpose of me buying this. Then sometimes I’ll just wait a few seconds at the front door hoping that it will finally detect my phone and unlock, but nope. Last, but not least, it doesn’t always work with my Apple HomePod or Google Home Mini. It only works about 25% of the time. The only feature that seems to always work is the auto lock which I’ve set tSo for most of the time, I feel like I bought an overly expensive door lock hoping that I get lucky it works.

Installation was easy, except connecting it to my wifi. I have to move my router closer to the lock to be able to establish the connection.
My main problem with this lock is the unreliable auto-unlock feature. That's the feature I bough this lock, but it only works less than 50%. I have contacted with their support team many times, this issue just doesn't seem to be solved. FYI: I'm using Pixel 4 with latest Android System. It may works better with iOS, I have no idea.
The setting is also quite funky, sometime it show my phone was not connected with the lock even I was stand by my door. Remote lock/unlock works fine. Although it works with Google Assistant, you have to set up a PING code, and every time you want to unlock your door with Google Assistant, you have to yell out your ping code, that's just purely stupid. I don't know if it's Google's standard, or it's a bad implementation from August.
It supports IFTTT, but with very limited functions. It can only trigger events, but not perform actions.
For a $250 device, I expect a better experience.

I have been using this lock for a little over a month and it works great! I guess the only complaint I have is that I’ve already had to replace the batteries. I figured it had very little power consumption but I guess I was wrong. No big deal though, they are very easy to get to and change, so it’s ok. My front door sits and the bottom of the stairs so it’s nice to be able to unlock the door for friends and family from upstairs or when I’m away. The lock has some pretty cool features and, coupled with my Nest Doorbell, I feel pretty safe and secure. Anyway, I would highly recommend this product.

Easy to install and pair. Doesn’t respond quickly to iphone app or Siri. It takes a few seconds on the app, a few more via Siri. But it’s secure and so far fool proof.

August smart locks have always been my go-to. they haven't let me down yet, and the set up and ease of use is probably my favorite part. the app is simple, you can add guests and set parameters for them to have access to your property. 10/10 would recommend.

Excellent upgrade over the third generation lock. With a two in one design, of both the lock and detector. The only issue I have encountered so far is that the batteries are more expensive, cr123 vs the old AA, and I have to replace them twice as more often.

This is my second august lock. My first is the Yale/August deadbolt with touchscreen keypad and this one was installed on the door leading from my garage. I never like the garage door always being open and don’t want to carry a key around so this fit my situation perfectly. I also installed the door sense and the Auto Unlock works flawlessly. I park in my garage, get out of the car, and the door is unlocked. I never have to wait for it to be unlocked as other reviewers have stated. I did get the keypad as well In case for some reason the Auto Unlock doesn’t work. I do have one negative and it’s that I purchased and installed this lock on July 27th and I already got a notification that the batteries were low and needed to be replaced. Luckily I had a couple of extra 123 type batteries at the house so I was able to install them right away. I’m hoping this isn’t the case where I’ll have to change them monthly. Overall I’m extremely happy with the lock and wouldn’t hesitate to buy a couple of others for other locations.

I bought this lock to work with Apple HomeKit and so far it works flawlessly. Installation is very intuitive and if you can turn a screwdriver you can do this. Don’t be alarmed that the install instructions are not in the box. They are in the app. So first order of business should be to download the app and setup an account. The rest is just following the on screen instructions. Connecting to the app, to Bluetooth, and to WiFi were all quite simple. Once connected to my phone the install process automatically downloaded and installed the latest firmware. It even took care of adding itself to my Apple HomeKit network. The build feels solid and battery replacement is quick and easy. I had seen so many reviews saying there were problems with the HomeKit implementation that I was a bit apprehensive. But so far so good! It seems to work as I would expect.. One mark down for value, as the price is not cheap. I would much preferred to see it in the $150 neighborhood.

Great build quality and setup was easy, I’m knocking a star off because while this uses wifi to communicate it switches to Bluetooth more than I would want it to. This means it often doesn’t respond, I ended up connecting it google home and I control it through the home app and through voice using my nest wifi assistant speakers. This forces it to use wifi always.
The unlock from x distance has been helpful when I’m out and arriving home, the door is unlocked and ready for me.

I installed 3 of these at my home and I really thought they were easy to install. The App takes some getting used to. Overall they have been great and I love having auto-lock feature and the unlock when I come in geo range. It's so useful and convenient.
I'm taking 1 star off because I wish they worked with my homepod a bit faster. It takes a good 5-10 seconds for the lock to react when using home app. I know this might not be an issue with the August lock itself, but as this is what I bought them for it is disappointing I have to use the august app to use these.

Great product. I bought this because it is Apple approved. Glad that it was in stock at the store. Very easy to install and set up. We are using the auto lock and Auto Unlock features and they work very well. So glad we bought this and would definitely recommend it.

Works really well with the app, it’s significantly smaller than the older version. Sometimes HomeKit fails to unlock it. Set it up when I unlock my door, it turns my lights on in that room to 70% which makes life easy.

Everything works great with this lock except the away feature. I have to get over 2 blocks away from my apartment before it kicks in to away mode.
It would be great if they had two settings: one for apartments with smaller radius and second setting with current radius for houses.
Outside of that one issue it has always unlocked fine using my Apple Watch app. I keep it on my screen and I can unlock it but the auto-unlock feature is easier when it works. This is especially true when I'm carry groceries and both hands are full.

Very easy to install, it took only 10 minutes.
The best thing about this is that I can lock or unlock using my Apple watch.
You can set it to auto lock after a set time in case you have forgotten to lock your door. The only issue is that it just auto locks after the timer elapses, without sensing whether the door is open or closed. This lock comes with a door open/close sensor, so I am not sure why it cannot sense if the door is closed before auto lock takes place.

I absolutely LOVE how this automatically unlocks as soon as I get close to the door, and locks itself when I leave. It’s a perfect set-it-and-forget-it device. It senses my phone in range and just unlocks. Don’t have to touch my phone, or say a word. It just does it. It doesn’t get more automated. You can also issue temporary “keys” to the phones of guests, allowing them access for the length of time you determine. It’s very secure, and was way too easy to install. I think the only tool it took was a screwdriver! From the outside you don’t even know there’s a smart-lock attached to the door. I’m completely on the home-automation bandwagon, and this is probably my favorite thing so far.

I really do love this so much that we bought another one for our garage. After we locked ourselves out we will never not have one of these again. It didn’t work super well to add people as guests so I just put them as an owner as a workaround. Not sure if it’s something we did wrong or not. My one complaint is that the battery dies about once a month. But I just bought a bunch of them on Amazon and they go for a lot longer than the notification says it will.
