Not worth the hassle
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Batteries last about a month before they start warning you that they’re low then you can normally get another month or two out of them. They’re 123 lithium batteries too so even though the app doesn’t have a subscription, it ends up costing around $60/yr in just batteries. If jams frequently too no matter how you try to adjust it, ended up just returning it.

Unreliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been greatly anticipating the release of this smart lock since January and I could not be more disappointed. I have had the lock for 1 week now and have been plagued with issue after issue anywhere from minor to unusable. ---Setup--- The set up was very simple. It took me approximately 10 minutes to read through everything, including a little extra time to realize I had the wrong lock adapter. My phone: Google Pixel 3a XL, Android 10 Also tested with a newer Iphone. My internet: Google mesh router, 100 mb, 20 feet away, (-48 signal strength, when I can read it) Issue #1: The first thing that I noticed is that my door does not automatically unlock for me the majority of the time. I will take my dog for a walk a half mile away and ensure my phone has been switched to away mode. When I return, I get very excited to see the notification "Welcome Home, Unlocking Front Door". Unfortunately this has worked exactly once, the door will either forever remain "connecting," or on the rare occasion it will actually say "Front Door Unlocked" only for me to find the door is still locked. -And no, this is not an issue with it autolocking before I get there. Issue #2: I cannot connect to this thing with my phone to change settings and I am guessing it is partly what is causing issue #1. I can remotely see the status of my lock (sometimes) but am unable to actually connect to change lock settings, even when I'm standing directly next to it. Eventually, factory resetting the device solved this issue as no amount of bluetooth troubleshooting was able to solve it. Door still does not auto-unlock with /Any/ degree of reliability. Issue #3: This was new as of yesterday. Lock was completely offline and unreachable from the device. i took it off the door, carried it to my router, no luck. Restarted my internet, no luck. Took a battery out and put it back, the device is alive again! This kicked off issue #4. Issue #4: The device states low battery even though it is only a week old. A quick search of reddit suggested this problem plagued August 2 years ago. How is this possible? Overall, incredibly frustrated. And incredibly disappointed. I can't decide whether to return it or throw it in a drawer and wait for August to push much needed updates to a device that wasn't ready for release.

Posted .Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We're very sorry to hear about your experience with the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock. We do have some known Bluetooth issues with certain Android devices. Our team is actively working on resolutions to these Bluetooth connectivity issues. We are always working towards improving the customer experience as well as the product. The third issue you're describing we believe has been resolved in a recent firmware release. This ties into the fourth issue as this new firmware also resolved an issue that was causing the batteries to quickly drain for a small number of users. Please kindly contact our support and we can get a new set of batteries sent out to you.
Thanks,
August Home

Absolutely the most unreliable door lock made!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned three or four different styles of automatic door locks over the past five years, and this particular one has been the worst experience. It is highly unreliable, failing to open the doors approximately 50% of the time, even though I have four of them installed. Unfortunately, all of them suffer from the same issues. It doesn't matter how close you are to the door lock; it simply doesn't work as expected. It's incredibly frustrating, and I regret my purchase decision. I thoroughly researched all the new door locks available before making the purchase, and this particular model was consistently ranked as the number one door lock on various lists. However, after reading numerous one-star reviews, I discovered that many others have experienced the exact same problems. It seems to be a widespread issue. I want to assure you that based on my personal experience and the feedback from other dissatisfied customers, you will not be satisfied with this lock. Its unreliability and consistent failures to function properly make it an unfortunate choice for anyone seeking a dependable and efficient automatic door lock.

Takes a lot of testing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've watched video reviews and read about this lock. What the videos don't do though is test it out of range of wi-fi and bluetooth. Once you're using it via just the cell network (5G), the lock and software don't operate as smoothly. The interface just shows that the lock is unlocking and can stall indefinitely. Going to Homekit sometimes shows that it is indeed unlocked but not always. Closing the August app and reopening sometimes fixes it, but not always. In fact, sometimes the app. just shows "disconnected" on the screen with no obvious fix. Multiple times of walking a block away to test this, I ended up not know whether or not the lock was locked or unlocked. When this happened, about half the time, the lock was in a different state (locked/unlocked) than I expected. I have other home devices that operate just fine when I'm away from the home. I will do more testing and return it if I can't figure out the issues. Also, took about 45 minutes to install.

Total waste of money.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lock consistently gets good reviews, which is why I bought it. Apparently everyone who reviews this is either paid, or didn't bother testing for long, b/c I (and everyone on Reddit) has had a horrible experience with this lock. 1. HomeKit DOES NOT work, despite their claims, 2. this will chew through 50 dollars of batteries per year 3. the plastic piece that connects this to your existing deadbolt WILL break if too much pressure is applied. My advice: avoid this lock.

Big improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the new August lock especially with the CR123 battery, the battery makes a huge difference on longevity. But the app needs improvement to show the battery percentage, that would be nice to know instead of an email.

Feels like quality, functions like #2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I only gave it two stars because it’s quiet compared to my last august lock. Everything else is worse. Last time set up took about 10 minutes, nearly perfect. This lock was a complete nightmare. It failed to connect to Bluetooth for the first hour or so the the same failure when trying to connect to WiFi. HomeKit compatible? I’m calling BS on that. It will not connect to HomeKit. I have tried everything approximately 20 times at this point the device cannot be located. Very disappointed because this thing is not cheap. The only reason I will keep it is because it’s the only lock that will work with a 5 inch backset deadbolt. Extremely disappointed

Battery Drain = Wallet Drain
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Terrible Battery Life Absolutely horrible battery life. IT gets 3-4 weeks on a set of brand new Energizer 123 Lithium batteries. The lock constantly disconnects and re-connects to wifi. HomeKit is buggy. Apple Watch app is terrible, and location services is spotty. If you turn off all the "smart" features - you are left with a dumb lock that drains batteries in 3 weeks.

Poor Quality Product - Lasted only 2 Years :-(
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Both the august lock and the Connect Wi-Fi bridge stopped working after about 2 years. The august lock stopped calibrating correctly so would not turn the right amount to lock/unlock the door properly. It’s such a poor design since it tries to “understand” how much to turn. It would be a lot simpler to just turn 90 degrees. The Connect also stopped working and no longer connects to the lock so is useless. Both of these seem to be common problems from what I’ve read on the Internet. The Connect Wi-Fi Bridge can also only work with 1 lock, which is also a poor design. So you have to buy a Connect for every lock! 2 years is the shortest life of all of my electronic products, especially for one as expensive as this one. August customer support is useless and could not fix the issues. They don’t seem to care about customer satisfaction. I will be buying a different product and brand - Ultraloq seems to be a much better product with a lot more features at the same price.

Unreliable and poor service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked for a few months and then stopped. Tried resets, new batteries, and it won’t connect. Good idea, very poor execution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this thing is total garbage if you ever had a previous lock. The lock burns through batteries even with a great connection. so much so that we ended up using it as a lock with the key and never used the smart aspect. The app is also garbage; if you have installed a prior lock it will not let you delete it. Add to that horrible customer support (they didn't have any ideas on how to fix it and just suggested changing batters or doing a factory reset. All in all, I suggest staying far away from anything related to August. Plus stay away from Yale assure locks because those also rely on August apps and support. Would give zero stars for this if I could!!!!

Garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a Mesh System DO NOT BUY. Its a known isssue that the August Smart Lock only runs off 2.4 GHz. I have +30 smart devices on my Eero Pro that i purchased. The only devices that constantly disconnect is the Lock and Bridge sytem. I reached out to August and they confirmed that its a known issue but will tell you theres nothing that they can do. This is an expensive product that does not deliver.

Disaster - Doesn't Calibrate no help
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this lock to setup in my home. It took forever to connect and then wouldn't calibrate. Calling support did nothing. They said return it get a new one. I guess that's how they treat their products. I'm not going in for round 2 on a device that's supposed to lock and keep my home safe. I'll go with another brand.

Don't Plan on August Home Customer Support To Help
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a unique setup where I'm attempting to run (2) locks on the same door for a gun safe. I can't get them both to work and I have tried to speak with an actual person at August Home and they will not respond to my request. Simply sending me canned responses. Terrible Customer Support.

Never will buy this again
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Their customer support is the worst. They only have automated system when calling...useless. Support via online chat tells you to call them. As noted, calling them is a waste of time and useless. I will never buy August product again. If you don't need assistance, it works. If you need assistance, good luck. It does not exist.
