Phone resolutions/screen sizes arent a good fit for this, in my opinion. Didnt enjoy this or feel any value in adding controls.

So I turned around and purchased one from Amazon and guess what, not even 2 weeks in and I’m already having the same issue and now I have to call Asurion one not one device but two and I’m ready to just give up on it all together.

To really utilize the full features you have to get the subscription to backbone. I really wish those features just came with the purchase of a $100 controller. Only works when you have outstanding wifi.. I wish I could return.

Bottom Line: The BackBone One White is a solid iPhone controller that can deliver near-console level controls when used with PS Remote Play. Review: The BackBone One White / PlayStation edition is aimed primarily at PS5 owners interested in using their iPhone for remote play. The controller (with iPhone attached) most closely resembles a popular handheld console, and so the PS5 elements are more of a skin/tweak of the BackBone One design. Overall, it is a solid controller, offering responsive thumb sticks and buttons. The controller is also really light, since it powers via the iPhone’s Lightning connector rather than internal battery. Charging passthrough (which pulses the orange button that opens the BackBone app) and headphone jack are nice additions as well. The White / PlayStation edition also uses the triangle/circle/X/square labeling and layout, which will be instantly recognizable to PS players. For remote play, physical buttons open the PS share and start menus much like on the DualSense controller. The BackBone One also has a dedicated button for screenshots/video recording that saves directly to the iPhone Camera Roll, which offers another way to share recordings. Although the BackBone One is a solid iPhone controller, buyers should be aware of two issues. First, the minimalist design can’t accommodate an iPhone case, and so it must be removed each time you want to connect and play. Indeed, the camera bump on the iPhone 13 Pro creates a need for an (included) adapter, since the controller was designed around thinner iPhone models. Second, the buttons are noticeably smaller than they are on a DualSense controller. It’s most noticeable, I think, for the L1 and R1 triggers, since I play a lot of Elden Ring. Despite these two issues, the BackBone One White / PlayStation edition offers full controller support for PS remote play, and it works well with other iOS compatible games.

Pro: -Good for Playstation remote play Con: -Won’t work with phone cases -Hard to remove phones I use this exclusively for Playstation Remote Play and having the same buttons as a Duelshock controller is a plus. The controller feels nice and solid, and has a good weight to it. The buttons feel like a clicky version of the PS Vita. The triggers feel a bit weaker with little resistance and a hard stop. The analog is on the small side, but feels fine during gameplay. It slides open big enough for the larger model of iPhone to easily fit. It will not fit a phone with a case. I have a very slim case and was hoping I wouldn’t have to remove it each time, but it still won’t fit. Removing the phone is also somewhat tricky as you have to slide and hold the controller open while trying to pull the phone out avoiding damaging the connector. There’s a USB C port to allow the phone to be charged while in use and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is an app required on initial setup, but it doesn’t have to be running to use the controller, at least not for the Remote Play app. There’s a button that brings up the app and a paid plan, but I totally ignored those. For Remote Play, the buttons were responsive and it feels like playing on a first party handheld (Vita and Switch). Unfortunately there isn't a button dedicated for the PS button or the touchpad so you’ll still have to use the screen for those. Biggest drawback is that you do have to remove the phone from its case to use it and removing the phone from the controller is a bit tricky. Overall it works well, feels pretty good in hand, and I like the matching Playstation scheme. I’ll be using Remote Play more because of this.

    Hand Held gaming is back

To start off, if you have a 13 pro or the Max, you can get the adapter free. Mines came with it. There will be instructions about that when your signing up and if you have a case on your phone, you will have to take it off, it has to be pure iPhone while using the backbone. Setup- it’s super simple because it’s very user friendly from the start. You have to download the app and it goes from there. Gaming - Right away, I played Spider-Man. It was awkward at first only because of how the controller is setup but it works the same. There are a lot of games but you would have to research certain ones but I can tell you that Roblox IS remote supported, so those of you with children that game a lot on their phone, your covered lol. While playing Spider-Man, there was no lag at all or any weird AI glitches. It’s just really getting use to the controller setup. Outside of the feel of it, overall the backbone will have its growth! It’s a unique innovation to console gaming and this will free your hands from tiredness of just playing on the phone itself. People with smaller iPhones, like the 6s will appreciate the Backbone. In my opinion, it could compete with the iPad because the Backbone gives you that true handheld feeling. It is wired, didn’t see any Bluetooth options but that’s ok. It feels durable but don’t get use to just dropping it of course. This really compliments the iPhone and its lite. Get the backbone if you want to get away from the iPad for a little with gaming. It won’t replace the consoles including the Switch, but you will for sure pick this up more often.

    The future of gaming

Gaming on your phone has truly changed over the last few years. Honestly, with the help of backbone letting me invision this but could honestly see all console gaming converting to you cell phone one day. I have been playing call of duty on my iPhone 13 pro max with the backbone almost every-night. So fun to play and it’s so easy to connect. I could do without my PlayStation now. A little off key but download all the maps, HD graphics, etc within the call of duty app and you will be playing like your on a pc or console. So many good and full maps on call of duty. When finding apps in the App Store look for the icon of a gaming handset which confirms your gaming app is compatible for playing with a handset. While setting up the backbone app it shows you what to look for in the App Store for compatibility so not to worry. Gaming with the backbone is just like using a PlayStation controller. Every thing is identical other than it’s in backbones form factor. The device feels great in my hands and when gaming I feel like everything like a PlayStation remote. All the buttons are there rather than the touch panel on a ps remote; however, you do have a touchscreen phone instead in the middle. There is a charging port and headphone port to help you with your charging in game needs and chatting like your on a console or pc. The backbone comes with a free year subscription of its premium access which allows in game chat through there service, live stream to twitch, access to using your backbone device with an iPad, Mac, or pc as a wireless remote, and many other bonus features.

So many good things to say about it. Great quality build worthy of Apple devices. It makes your phone look and often act like a Nintendo Switch. It’s responsive and fun. It fits the 12 Pro Max so well. It can be used to play iPhone games, control Playstation and beyond. If you are into recording your action, it has a dedicated button for that. You can even connect a headphone directly to it. The whole controller is powered by your phone, so no need for batteries. I could go on and on, but I believe this is enough for the positive side. It was built to fit an iPhone nicely and it would be impossible to build something this nice and still support the many cases out there. The issues are few and mostly have to do more with the game you’re playing than with the controller itself. The only thing that threw me off was the subscription requirement. That’s not an immediate issue because it comes with a one-year free subscription, but after that, you must pay $50 a year if you want to keep using it. I never had to pay for a subscription to use a controller before. That’s what caused me to rate it four stars instead of five. This controller is fantastic. I recommend it if you don’t mind spending on subscription a year later.

This little attachable mobile controller is a awesose alternative to gaming on your PS5 and tv. The downside is this requires your PS5 to be ON, if it would work and or connect to your PSN account without the need for your PS5 to be on would easily make this 5 stars. This fits and feels like a PS5 controller connected to my sons IPhone 13 mini, he really likes this mobile controller. The one thing we noticed is the controller connected to his iPhone connected to the PS5 has a few seconds lag, which js aggravating but jot a deal breaker. This is light and very easily carried in your pocket or book bag, you cant usethis with a case on which can be a hassle wh3n you just wanna game and go. The price is a tad high, but not crazy like some PS5 attachments. All in all, this is a nice little addition to your PS5 setup and accessories. I do highly recommend giving this a shot if your on the fence. The buttons and controller are just a tad more compact than the original PS5 controller, but not so much so it takes away or becomes a distraction while gaming.
