The wide slots will easily swallow a bagel. We've even toasted a large croissant sliced in half. The buttons that select different functions have a blue circle of light to show that it is active. The top button is the cancel function and it lights up when the unit is ON. Pressing that will pop the toast up and turn it off. Nice unit - quite satisfied.
