I ended up upgrading to a similar flat design that is slightly larger and has a USB powered RF signal amplifier. it improved the signal in my case, not dramatically, but improved channel viewing quality.

Using in a suburban area where signal strength is reasonably good, and have not had to be particular in locating or orienting the flat panel.
