||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I brought in my HP laptop for a simple repair and the tech immediately suggested that my SSD drive was malfunctioning and should be replaced. I wanted to keep my data so I agreed to purchase a new SSD drive. This occurred during my 1pm appointment today. At 6:45pm I received a call from the Geek Squad and the tech told me there was NO DATA on my hard drive and I had probably cleaned the drive by accident while resetting the PC before bringing it in. I disagreed with the tech and asked when I could pick up my laptop. He noted that it was 5 minutes to closing time so it would have to wait until tomorrow at 11am. I had to purchase a Total Tech subscription in order to get the labor for free on this repair, now I'm out $220 AND all of the data on my laptop, and the Geek Squad techs waited until near closing time so I couldn't come in TODAY and get my laptop. I demand a complete refund of the Total Tech fee of $220 immediately due to the unprofessional way this entire incident was handled. I lost valuable data and the only thing the tech could come up with on the phone was a data recovery service that could run from $800-1500. I've shopped at Best Buy for years and never ran into these sorts of issues and upselling.

We do our best to protect and save data but sometimes the hard drive requires a more advanced approach to collect the data if certain areas of the hard drive are failing or fail. One great way to prevent data loss is saving sensitive data on an external hard drive or cloud storage in the event of an immediate hard drive failure. With the Totaltech membership, we can assist with getting this setup, so you know your data is secure. If you haven’t already, I would recommend speaking with the store leadership to see if there might be an alternate option in recovering the lost data from the hard drive.
