Customers praise the Best Buy Totaltech™ Yearly Subscription for its value, Geek Squad support, and the peace of mind it provides. They appreciate the free installation and setup services, as well as the protection and discounts offered. However, some customers express concerns about long wait times, the subscription's cost, limited coverage, and the fact that the warranty ends with the membership.

DO NOT BUY OR TRUST THEM WITH THIS PLAN!!!!! I purchased my TotalTech plan that has covered many of my products for years without issues, but now the day (02/06/25) I put in an appointment for repair/replacement for a dehumidifier with a plan that expires 04/10/25 and they confirmed everything. THEN 30 minutes later they sent me a separate email that my plan had been successfully cancelled.... When I called in to see what was going on they said they were "Sorry" but couldn't reinstate a plan after it had been cancelled.. Why would I cancel my protection the same day I put in an appointment for repairs!? They said they would put in an inquiry for an investigation but my TotalTech plan as a whole renews 02/15. THEY 100% are holding out for me to renew and to get the $200+ so they don't have to help me with my product out of their own pocket even though i paid for the insurance. What a joke!! BEWARE!!!!

A waste of money and time

Total Tech is a Total Fraud. If you need service, expect extremely long wait times to talk to a representative. When we finally reached someone, we were told it would take weeks before a tech would be available to come out. Then, the kicker, they canceled that appointment. This service is okay if you are buying Best Buy equipment for them to install, but once you brought your product you are no longer a priority. I recommend locally based tech companies than wasting your time and money on this corporate hoax.

Be careful with total tech when they claim all Items you purchase are cover and when you recieve a letter stating ,you presented a invalid credit care for a purchase...but not I found out I have no coverage for Item I am paying for but I contacted you several times but was tranfered 5 time before I was basically told it was my fault. Unfortunately I bought a 2200$ TV and I was talked in to total tech instead of just normal geek squad. I was ver frustrated to find out that at month 15, I had a dead pixel line through my tv. When I attempted to open a case, the total tech number told me I was covered, but when geek squad came they said I was not. My Bestbuy Credit card expired so they sent a new one, and when Total tech attempted to auto renew, It declined. I did buy an additional big cost item at month 14 with my new credit card and added total tech. they said it covered all of my tech purchased at best buy. Big Lie. I called again when my TV had power issues. They again assured me that it was covered. Geek Squad came back and again said it was going to cost 1200$ to repair because it is not covered. A new TV of the same model is now that price. What a waste of time, money and energy.

    Complete waste of money

Complete waste of money and time, I purchased this with my new Drone, and was completely lied to by the sales consultant. I have had multiple issues with my Tech, purchased from bestbuy and elsewhere, and recieved 0, yes ZERO practicle or useful suport from the Geek Squad, in each instance they failed to fix (I had to get it fixed with the manufacturer myself, or pay elsewhere) and told me I would have to repurchase, or told me it wasn't covered under the plan as it wasnt purchased from bestbuy (this is the $199.00 Total Tech Plan suposed to cover all tech no matter where purchased), or told me they dont have anyone on staff, that understands the tech, so they would be starting from scratch to understand or try and fix it. The promised discounts included with the plan, apparently havent been applicable to any products I have purchased during the period of my membership. It is almost impossible to get through to them on the phone and if you do they are not any help. I canceled my membership today, and got what little money I could back after yet another instance of 'We dont know how to fix that'. Don't waste youre time or money with this service. If you have purchased, request a refund asap and put the money towards paying someone who understands tech to fix your stuff.. Very disappointed with BestBuy for the shady sales practice and misinformation on this service.

Not worth the $/ won’t honor 2 year protection

Was good while I had it. I asked when I bought it, if I didn’t renew after the one year of my purchases while having it would still be under the 2 year protection from the date of purchase. For $200 for 1 year id hope that would be true. My $180 Xbox elite controller broke (Dec.28.23) and they would honor the protection cause they said I didn’t renew my subscription. I bought the controller on Jan 20.23. Highly upset for the money spent on a protection plan i should get what I paid for. I’ll make sure to just buy manufacturing warranties from now on.

I feel scammed out of a warranty on my expensive gaming laptop. I was told that TotalTech would cover my needs, and that it was better than buying the normal Geek Squad warranty, but when I went to get repairs for my keyboard, I was told it wouldn't be convered and I could be charged over a thousand dollars if there was anything more than a couple keys broken or if anything else was noticed to he wrong with the laptop, even if I didn't want that looked at. Absolutely never intend to follow the advice of your employees again.

    Hit or Miss

Totaltech is marketed as this wondrous service that will save you money in the long run, but fails on numerous accounts. After paying the initial two-hundred dollars you think that you have this vast array of services at your disposal; however, you have to cut through an abundance of red tape every time you schedule a service. Scheduling is the first issue. Upon purchasing an item that requires some semblance of setup/installation services (that are included on the vast offerings list) don't even show up on the site as available thus requiring the consumer to call the 1800 number or chat service...that's where the fun begins. The first portion is trying to contact anyone via chat. They almost always will tell you that their powers are limited and that you have to call. I guess that's fine. So then you call and note your scheduling desire and then usually are passed around from anywhere between two to four different phone operators..sometimes even back to a department you already spoke with. This can last up to an hour. At times I would just have to hang up and talk to someone that actually knew what they were speaking of. Talking to anyone from Best Buy on the phone in regards to Totaltech is either really good or really bad as some employees are open and willing to assist and some are completely clueless as to what the services entail. Some will tell you that something clearly listed on the site isn't there and that you need a "SKU" in order to continue and then some will require that you pay for services even though they are listed on the laundry list of services included even though you purchased the item from Best Buy and should be covered. That last bit is what really got me. Almost every time I went to schedule a service that should have been covered it almost always was a fight to get covered under Totaltech. Sometimes I even ended up paying for the service because I didn't have the tools available and I needed it done either way so I guess that is on me. All in all Best Buy should have a better portal for its Totaltech members to schedule out services as human error is rife throughout the customer service team. Lastly, the company should start having a true list of services offered that the team members/system recognizes as covered under the Totaltech agreement with no fun hidden fees at the end of it all. Sadly I would not recommend this service to anyone.

Total tech is now pointless with new policies

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

They changed policies on total tech and didn't even tell us. Say it saves 20% on services for a new oven. However, you pay a 100-200 deductible for services calls on that oven and you only get 2 a year. The autotechs at best buy inform us that total tech is not worth it any more because had we bought the warranty for the oven, the warranty would have had no deductible with unlimited service cars for 5 years. On top of that, best buy use to allow you to purchase car alarms and have free installs and uninstalls without total tech. Total tech use to allow you to have free installs and uninstalls as long as you have a subscription to total tech. But now they changed policies so people have to pay now for installs/uninstalls if they didnt buy from best buy or if they lost their best buy receipt. Now they also can't vring up along receipts even though they originally sent you a receipt via email. I even been told buy autotechs that I might have to pay for a car alarm install if the car alarm I original bought from best buy is 4-5 years old even if I have the receipt. And that it is up to the discretion of the autotech manager to decide weather to do it for free or not. Kind of silly. They need to honor people who have receipts regardless because they they lose business and total tech becomes pointless. Total tech is only worth it if you are buying something brand new. Not if you have something a few years old.

Total Tech is a service that provides discounts for services offered for items already purchased, and free/discounted installs for items being purchased while you have Total Tech and a protection plan that is free for up to two years while you have Total Tech. Some appliances may have a 3 year Geek Squad Protection plan for $80-$300 and 5 years for $130-$500 which is an option and would be more expensive if you never end up having an issue with the product and the install would be charged in some cases like Gas ovens/stoves. While the discounts are a great option I can understand how some don't like it. I personally have had it for 3 years and have taken great advantage especially with the free AppleCare+ with multiple phones, computers and televisions in my home. Do check out all the things covered and look for possible item discounts available with the Total Tech plan if you so choose. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/electronics/totaltech/pcmcat1629315977983.c?id=pcmcat1629315977983

    Horrible

I don't place any review anywhere online but I think I should in this case. I have ordered all my appliances from best buy within last year, most recently washer and dryer. As the drier was on gas and I was purchasing electric l I went to the store to make sure they can disconnect the gas when placing electric and was advised to call total tech support. After being 40 minutes on the call I was assured they will send somebody to disconnect the gas with the team. When the delivery team came they said they can not do it and they left without installing washer and dryer. I called again and was told that I was misinformed and they do not provide these services if the new appliances are electric. So I arranged my own plumber to come on the second delivery day early a.m. before appliances delivery scheduled between 8:00 a.m and 12 p.m. So the delivery team again call me at 7:29 a.m. that they are coming in 10 minutes and as gas dryer was not disconnected yet they just left left without even informing my wife who was in the house. I called best buy total tech and was told that they can not do anything at this point that day and I have to go to the local store were the delivery team is from to try to arrange delivery later that day. In the store I was told opposite (they have nothing to do with this and I have to call back to the total total tech phone number). So the delivery was rescheduled for the 3rd time with gas dryer being disconnected . The same delivery team came and when my wife pointed out that last time that they didn't even say good buy and left the house with her unaware that they don't plan to install appliances that day, they left again and apparently put in the report that the gas dryer is still connected and they will treated with disrespect. I have never came across with this type of the customer service.... giving us a false information about their services on the 1st placed , then complete lack of professionalism by delivery crew twice , who just look for excuses not to do their job. We don't have washer and dryer we ordered for 2 weeks and we are speechless with our experience... not mentioning time we spend off work waiting for "delivery' appointments, calling BestBuy etc

    Geeksquad > Contract Labor

I purchased a Totaltech membership in addition to 2 TV’s with mounts shortly after a move in June ‘22. I would rate the quality of service received pertaining to the aforementioned as 5 stars. In fact, the Geeksquad technicians did such a great job, it led me to purchase 2 digital thermostats and coordinate installation through the Totaltech program. Unfortunately, that’s where the quality of service ended. Best Buy contracted with a third party to provide the installation and the thermostats, along with their accompanying sensors, were installed incorrectly. During the botched install, the “technician” installed the sensors next to the thermostats - against the products installation instructions (and pretty much completely negating what the sensors are designed to do). This was done in opposition of where my wife advised the “technician” to install. Subsequent emails, chats and phone calls (7 to be exact) over a 6 month period, all assured me that the issue would be escalated for resolution. Now, almost a year later, I still have not received any return communication let alone, resolution. The program wreaks of a mid 2000’s subscription scheme - I just spent 30 minutes “having to chat” with a rep to be able to process my cancellation before I’m billed again.
