Customers are saying

Customers praise the Best Buy Totaltech™ Yearly Subscription for its value, Geek Squad support, and the peace of mind it provides. They appreciate the free installation and setup services, as well as the protection and discounts offered. However, some customers express concerns about long wait times, the subscription's cost, limited coverage, and the fact that the warranty ends with the membership.

    Total Tech is a Scam

Avoid at all costs! Big waste of money! There is no VIP support as they claim in their terms and conditions. You get uncaring person from the Philippines who reads from a script. First time I ever had to use the service and got the run around. One foreign rep hung up on me. Another answered but kept me on a silent hold. All refused to get me a supervisor as requested 5 times. The one I dealt with via chat tells me the terms and conditions changed at the last renewal and I should have read the email because Total Tech no longer covers labor. They will cover “some” parts. What’s the point in paying $180 per year? To be treated horribly? To refuse to cover a repair? To tell me that they can schedule someone to check my fridge but no idea what the person may charge? What a scam! As a lawyer, I plan on filing a consumer protection claim with the Texas Attorney General and may even sue. Save your money and avoid BB. I canceled my membership and closed my credit card. You have been warned.

    Extremely Poor Service

Order Number 106103498. I have been trying to get my washer fixed for over a month without any resolution. The technician didnt show up the first time and the second time he required a photo of the error on our machine, so he simply left and then reported the repair as completed. I am back to square 1, The Chat service is full of apologies, but empty of solutions other than "escalating". My issue has been escalated twice and after one call that eneded in a "call you right back" I have not heard or seen a reolution yet. Order Number 106103498

    Total tech scam--dont get it

Horrible experience. A friend recommended this and it sounded like a good deal. The lights on my GE66 Raider laptop stopped working, and I sent it in for repair. $263 cost. When I got it back, the headphone jack wasn't working. Sent in for service again and got it back. No charge. Today my lights on the laptop stopped working again. Brought it into Best Buy and they told me since it's been more than 30 days since the motherboard was replaced, that I'd have to pay for another one. What an absolute scam, thankfully, less than 60 days since I bought total tech, so I got a refund for that. Communication was terrible each time, no way to have any conversation with the person that's actually repairing the laptop. only through incompetent customer service people. I will never purchase merchandise or get service from Best Buy ever again.

    SCAM

SCAM- I purchased a Samsung TV. I also bought the Totaltech membership. I was told the membership offered several services. However, I purchased it solely for the service described as all installs would be free if product was purchased from best buy and if I had any service issues someone would come out trouble shoot and/or repair or replace. I was told that there was no reason to purchase a warranty because this membership is better than a warranty. Four months later, I was told that they did not off the services anymore and it was too late to buy a warranty. So if they are still selling Totaltech it is definitely a scam.

    Totaltech Bait and Switch

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have had Totaltech for almost 3 years now and was recently informed that their policy had changed so that installation was not included anymore. Begrudgingly, I shelled out another $392 to have my home theater components installed. The room had been surveyed twice by the Geek Squad and they assisted me with the equipment purchase. The technician arrives today and starts to work but soon informs me that the speaker installation was not on the work order and for an additional $400 he can do it. I call customer service and they refuse to elevate my complaint to a supervisor and when I ask to cancel my membership, they threaten to void all my extended warranties. After reaching my third representative, he indicates that the mistake appears to be on their part and will have the store contract me directly today. No call. Save your money from these scammers and frauds. The program is complete garbage.

My most recent Windows 11 update was not successful. First agent mindlessly ran a bunch of scans that said nothing - 3 hrs. His sign off notes said that clean up items such as clearing cache, temp files etc. were done but didn't touch the problem I called abour. The second agent had notes about the issue and what had already been tried and thought that I wanted a virus scan - No. No. No. He eventually got the issue but couldn't fix it. He wouldn't respond and basically signed off without saying anything - 2 hours. The third person told me I need to dump off the PC with the local BestBuy (meaning they send it off and you're without a machine for an indeterminant amount of time - great for a home business, right?). I said that there must be someone within their organization with the competence to do this online. She hung up on me. Although I don't know the solution to this problem (that's why I pay for "Total Tech Support"), surely someone among the 1000s of people they have should (after all hasn't Microsoft and their updates been around for a while?). They were a complete waste of my time and wouldn't recommend them for anything other than a virus scan (and even then, they wouldn't know how to deal with one that their mindless scanners discovered). So, I have to find and pay a 3rd party to do this fix and of course, there is no compensation for the Geeks wasting my time.

BB Total seems GREAT! Until you need it...

Welp, had my first issue I needed support on - a tech support question. So I started a support chat. I was quickly given a link to a DIFFERENT support chat line that could offer remote support. But then THAT support rep told me this sort of issue, I needed to schedule an in-person appointment. The thing is, my issue is not something that needs to be checked in-person. I'm not even sure it's possible, but was not able to get a clear answer online. I just want to know if I can mirror my iphone screen on the iPad I just bought from BestBuy. I renewed my Total subscription as well since I wanted all the devices covered and without Total, each device would need AppleCare+ separately. But I am very confident - this being either a capability question or a configuration question - that had I purchased this device through Apple directly and purchased AppleCare+, that they WOULD NOT tell me I'd need to bring the devices in to answer the question. They would just freaking answer it. Right there in the chat. So disappointed in Best Buy.

ALWAYS BUY THE WARRANTY FOR APPLIANCES.

I have paid for TotalTech for over 10 years and tried to use it for the first time yesterday for a Matag washer that I purchased at Best Buy in July 2022. At the time of purchase, I discussed getting a warranty for the washer as it was almost $1000 and was told "no need" you have the coverage through TotalTech. When I called yesterday, I was told to call Magtag which I did and was told they were wrong, there was no coverage, So I called back Best Buy and it was immediately apparent that no one knew anything about appliances, not even troubleshooting to see if I could fix the issue. I was given an appointment for service by some outside company but the first available appointment was 11 days from now. So no washer for 11 days? That doesn't work, So instead I called a local company to come, which they are tomorrow. They said it sounded like the mother board which needless to say, I going to have to pay for, I was told from the BB tech that they really only did electronics. A warning to anyone buying appliances through Best Buy, which unfortunately I have purchased 3 in the last year & 1/2, don't listen to their TotalTech bull, buy a warranty or go elsewhere. I definitely won't be renewing at $179 for nothing.

Total Scam! Membership will Lapse purposely

This program is a complete SCAM! I was on an autorenew program and spent 10K on devices, just to learn my plan "LAPSED" and they sent zero correspondence letting me know there was an issue. I used the same BEST BUY CARD for $1600 the day I learned - The payment didn't go through on Nov. 28th canceling all of my previous device protection. But worked fine on my newly purchased products. Then I was told you have 30 days to renew, which I did two days later while purchasing more devices. They will charge you for benefits you will never get to use! No issue with the card at all, it's intentional to scam you out of the protection promised. What a waste!
