The flash drive actually got hot so I re-attached to ensure connection but still felt warm ... not hot.

Regarding the warmth you noticed on the flash drive — it's normal for USB drives to generate some heat during use, especially when actively recording and saving video clips. As long as it's warm rather than uncomfortably hot, it should be operating within normal range. Here are a few tips to help:

We have a similar set up with Blink outdoor cameras and an indoor camera focused on our dog's bed when we are not home. It is a very good basic setup of security cameras.
