The Blink-Outdoor Camera with 2K picture and video resolution, Color night vision and Two-way audio with noise cancellation is a nice upgrade over my older 1080P Blink cameras. Not that the 1080p ones are bad either but the 2K have twice the resolution plus the Case looks like it is made out of more premium material to me. Another thing I noticed is the mic recordings are clearer which tells me that the noise cancelation must be effective along with I believe slightly improved mic hardware in general. To me the Blink cameras have always been a simple value driven solution to security camera systems and I have always been pleasantly surprised by their effectiveness and quality for the price. I really like them in fact as a persona that has tried and used many different camera brands from budget friendly to more premium and expensive solutions. I can honestly tell anyone that I do not think they will be disappointed if they invest in Blink Cameras. After buying my first set and having another Brand as well I chose to expand my Blink Camera system to include two floodlight cameras a doorbell camera and their indoor cameras in addition to my outdoor Blink cameras which are all 3rd gen up until trying this new one. My advice to anyone would be is to invest in some solar panels for your outdoor blink cameras and use rechargeable batteries. This way you get the benefit of having continuous power with absolutely no wires to run. It will let you use them however you want without worrying about the batteries and it’s a great set up. To me it’s the most sensible way to go and you really can not go wrong with a Blink system. The app works really well and is more intuitive and simple than most while providing a nice array of features and customizability to suite your needs. I would suggest providing at least dimly lit areas outside and leaving night vision off. You would be surprised how little light they need to produce good video and pictures at night. It usually looks better that way unless your camera is an area with no lighting at all.I also noticed that the Blink 2K Outdoors Cameras to a really good job at gathering light. A noticeable improvement for me over my gen 3’s and one of the better ones I have seen for use in areas with a small amount of light. They get the job done at a great price point.

This camera was super easy to install. Blink does have the process minimized and at a point where it is does secure a very reliable connection to the Sync Module and camera. Basically the Quick Start Guide mentioned just three steps including the installation of the Blink Home Monitor app. Once the app is installed you simply click the + sign in the upper right and the app will move you smoothly through the install. I did utilize the Sync module that came with this camera although I do have other Blink Sync modules so I could have added this camera to one of my other Sync Modules. Note the Sync modules are plugged into 120 VAC using the included adapter and cable. The camera uses 2 AA batteries that are included. It did appear that my cell phone had to be on the same network access point as where I installed the Sync Module; if not the connection will not be established. Once the connection is made the Sync Module firmware will update. I then added the camera and it connected within seconds. The camera then did a firmware update also. The camera video was beautiful, clear and colorful. Two way audio also was clear and crisp. I did choose the better camera resolution option in settings instead of longer AA battery life since I use the camera on my front porch to provide better facial details than my doorbell camera can. An important point about this camera is the excellent waterproof seal that it utilizes, tip of my cap to the Blink engineers for a very well designed security camera at an affordable price. I do highly recommend this camera for its build quality, features and ease of installation.

So, For me, it took a few days of messing around to get the sync module to connect using an android device. I did have more success using an IPad. After several resets of the sync module, camera and router, I had an image! Unfortunately, the camera caught the motion image, but froze constantly. I watched a video to see how the camera normally operates to verify I may just have a unit that does not work. Some reviewers had success while others ran into connectivity issues. I think more research needs to go into firmware capatibility with connectivity handshakes! To purchase this is a minimal cost and you may have success and if so, it will be a great camera. The image it captured actuallly had a very clear picture but continued to freeze. I left it stay connected to the internet for a few few days and found it was actually working better (self heal) and possibly needs a firmware update to correct sluggish operation. You will need a subcription to continue the control benefits like most camers on the market.

Setup is super easy and well explained right of the box. First, you scan the QR code to download the Blink mobile application and it walks you through the setup process step by step. The connection module is plugged into a wall outlet and placed between your router and the location the camera will be setup. Once it is connected to your WiFi network, the camera is ready to be configured. The back of the camera is removed with the included tool, QR code scanned and the back replaced. The only included mounting option is a bracket and screws. Tape could easily be applied as well, or the camera can just be set in a location. I set mine up without screws or tape by securely placing in a location on the side of house. The camera angle is wide, and picture is very clear. I have a clear view of my front door, sidewalk and most of my lawn. Unless you have it in a very low light location, I suggest setting the IR settings on low. The low light quality is great, but bright lights can easily drown it out at night. You can easily setup zones of to detect motion and exclude detection for areas of high traffic. There is a trial subscription that saves video clips to the cloud and gives you more options for additional devices. It works great standalone if you just want to get notified of motion and view life screams. The motion detection is great and can differentiate between people, vehicles and other objects. I am well pleased with the functionality and plan to connect additional cameras and a blink doorbell camera.

I had high hopes for this camera and it met them in everything except its ability to work in my HomeKit based smart home. The camera build is sturdy for an outdoor unit. Living in the Midwest we have lots of cold days as well as strong summer heat abs so far this has held up well. It’s easily installed outside and the setup in the blink app is easy. It only took a few minutes to go from box to streaming in 2k video. Speaking of, the video quality is also really good. It’s clear Dan crisp which helps with visibility and its low light performance was genuinely impressive. I could see details at all hours, something I’ve seen other cameras struggle with. My only real limitation with it is that my house is primarily a HomeKit powered home. I rely heavily on its support as I look to add more devices. If that’s not a requirement for you then this camera is a great addition to any smart home and one I would highly recommend. It’s well worth it for the external visibility and clarity. This unit was provided to be form Best Buy for review purposes.

The camera shipped with mounting kit and batteries enclosed so install and setup was very quick. The picture quality is very good at 2K and the Zoom is nice as well without loosing much clarity as I zoom in. We mounted it up on an overhang and the audio, when we tested it, was clear on our end but the sound level was a bity low at the unit outside. We aren't planning on talking to people outside much, so no worries there.. Low light or night vision is pretty good, not quite as sharp as daylight, but that is to be expected - still clear enough to read license plate or recognize faces. Color is also easy to make out on night vision, so it does the job pretty well. Where we are at, it is very cold in the winter and we'll see how it holds up over time. So far we have been sub-zero a few days and had a bit of snow and ice without trouble or loss of functionality. All in all, very pleased with the camera right now - app interface was smooth and we may opt for the subscription plan, as that provides additional options like AI smart detection notifications when vehicles or people are outside.

Not Completely Wireless - Still Inconvenient To Us

In the race to produce the great outdoor wireless camera, Blink seems to have followed many predecessors in choosing to think about the “wireless” aspect last. This new Blink offering has taken an interesting direction – while the camera, itself, is autonomously operated by a pair of lithium AA batteries, it must still communicate with the business end of this offering – a Sync module. So, as I understand it, for much of the operating power that can drain an intact camera system, Blink has split this difference between the camera part and the communications part. What we have here is a battery operated outside camera system that is small and lightweight and easy to mount that communicates with a wired system inside and within range – the indoor system appears to take care of the more taxing tasks that can drain most batteries. So there is an inside module that needs to be powered (power supply and cable included). And while the images from the camera are truly impressive, you need to consider the inconvenience of needing to change the batteries from time to time to keep surveillance active. And while the external camera can be wireless, the inside system needs to be plugged in to function. In an interesting addition to the battery operated function of this camera, there is a USB-C port in the back where the camera can be powered w/o battery power. For high activity areas where continuous power might be important, that would mean that this camera would require two power sources. “Battery Powered,” and “Wireless,” and “Outside” should be considered fully before buying a camera like this. This is a cute and petite little camera surveillance system, but I don’t think they have solved the need for convenience in outside wireless surveillance options.

      Hi VADarkstar,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review of the Blink Outdoor camera system. We really appreciate the depth of your analysis regarding the power management design and the trade-offs involved.

You've accurately identified the core design philosophy behind this system—splitting the power demands between the battery-operated camera and the wired Sync Module to extend battery life while maintaining reliable connectivity. We understand that while this approach does help preserve camera battery life, it also means the system isn't entirely wireless, which may not meet everyone's expectations of a "wireless" outdoor camera.

Your points about the need for periodic battery changes and the requirement for the indoor Sync Module to be plugged in are valid considerations that potential buyers should understand before purchasing. We also appreciate you noting the USB-C port option for continuous power in high-activity areas—it's definitely a feature worth considering based on individual surveillance needs.

Your feedback about the balance between "battery powered," "wireless," and "outside" functionality is valuable and helps both us and other customers better understand what this system offers and where it may have limitations. We're always working to improve our products, and insights like yours help guide those improvements.

Thank you again for your honest and comprehensive assessment of the Blink Outdoor camera system. AmazonDevices

    WASTE OF TIME

Don't waste your time of this set up because although the camera itself has a pretty good low light picture quality as well as a large field of view perfect for a outside camera, the link unit and the app and the camera took long multiple attempts of setting up until we were finally able to set it up but then afterwards, about once a day, sometimes twice a day, almost every single day the link unit unlinks itself and then the whole thing doesn't function at all, requiring another 15 minutes of your time to re-sync everything up all over again and again and again, which can't be done if you are not home. So basically this camera is worthless because it hardly ever works. Because of its size and allegedly long battery life we really wanted this Blink outdoor camera to succeed but unfortunately it failed miserably. Also they give you a little plastic tool to open the back battery compartment with that is supposed to double as an extra mount bracket for when you want to screw the mounts upside down like underneath a roof easement over hang, but again, unfortunately that piece does not really work for that function.

Hello HeaterHenry! Thank you for your detailed feedback on the Blink Outdoor 2K+ camera system. I'm sorry to hear about the persistent connectivity issues you've been experiencing with the sync module and the frustration this has caused with daily disconnections.

The recurring unlinking problem you're describing with the sync module is certainly not the expected performance, and I understand how disruptive it is to have to re-sync the system multiple times daily, especially when you're away from home. Here are some comprehensive troubleshooting steps that may help resolve the connectivity issues:

      For Sync Module Connectivity Problems:

Ensure your sync module has a strong, stable internet connection. Check that your Wi-Fi router is within reasonable range (ideally within 100 feet with minimal obstructions) and that the signal strength is adequate.
Try relocating the sync module closer to your router to improve connectivity stability.
Restart your sync module by unplugging it from power, waiting 30 seconds, then plugging it back in.
Check that your router's firmware is up to date and that no firewall settings are blocking the Blink system's connection.
Verify that your home network is on a 2.4 GHz band, as Blink cameras work best on this frequency rather than 5 GHz.
Remove and re-add the sync module in the Blink app to establish a fresh connection.
Ensure the Blink app is updated to the latest version on your mobile device.
Check if there are any sources of wireless interference near the sync module (such as baby monitors, microwaves, or other smart home devices) and relocate if necessary.
Regarding the mounting tool issue: I appreciate you noting that the battery compartment tool doesn't function well as an alternative mounting bracket. This feedback is valuable for product improvement considerations.

If these troubleshooting steps don't resolve the persistent disconnection issues and the system continues to unlink daily, I strongly recommend reaching out to Blink Customer Support directly, through the Help Menu and Contact Us link within the Blink Smartphone App to explore other troubleshooting steps and to see what else can be done to resolve this. I hope this helps resolve your issues or improve your experience some and thank you again for your time and review! Have an amazing day! AmazonDevices
