You can put a MicroSD card in the main unit that stays inside your home to store the video recordings if you don't want to subscribe to the cloud service.

Batteries run out quickly

They are not always super clear imaging but you can definitely see the outside or area your recording. They are inexpensive and work well. Easy to set up.
