I want to thank the Best Buy Tech Insiders Network for sending me this camera to review. I have a few different cameras on the front side of the house but nothing to watch over the side of the house. Every now and then I hear noises coming through the air conditioner vents but since I don't have any windows on that side of the house, I can't tell if it's my neighbor putting out his trash or if someone who doesn't belong is walking to my back yard. I mounted this tiny Blink Outdoor 4 camera onto my awning over my side door that faces the front gate and when I hear a noise, I pop open the app and look to see who's there. The quality of the picture is incredibly clear in the daytime and using infrared it is very clear at night as well. The camera is so light weight, I was able to mount it with the 2 included screws right onto the side of the awning. The camera comes with a mount that can be angled in any direction when using it's included secondary mount but I was able to mount it with only the base mount and the angle was perfect. The camera takes 2 AA batteries that were included and they say it should last 6 months before I'll have to change them. The package includes a sync module that will extend the WiFi to the area where you will put the camera and it has a USB jack to put a flash drive in to record my videos locally or I could choose to store the videos in their cloud service. They give you 30 days free cloud storage after which I will probably subscribe for only $3.00/month for that camera. They have other subscription plans for multiple cameras as well. The app is available for iOS and Android and is great for viewing your live video feed as well as your saved clips and it will tell you the storage remaining on your flash drive. For a small camera at such a low cost, it is a great deal and can protect your home for a fraction of the cost of a professional camera system.

I was a little iffy on this Blink camera at first but it has really grown on me. My first impressions were great; the packaging was sufficient and the setup on the app was extremely easy. I barely and I mean barely had to do anything to get the camera, the sync module, and app all connected and working properly. The app setup process was excellent and one of the best I have seen. Once it was all set up, this was where I kind of lost confidence in the app. The current version is a bit cumbersome and harder to understand compared to competing brands I have used. It took me a day or so to realise the camera was not recording anything because I had not "armed it," my mistake, I thought arming it would have meant turning some sort of alarm feature on. Once it was all set up correctly it was great. It is very sensitive, one of the more sensitive cameras I have used and seemed to be picking up all motion as I experimented with walking around in front of it. The image quality of the camera is even better than I was expecting. It is not pixelated, night vision also looks great. The audio quality is a little iffy, it sounds like faint constant static even when nothing is happening, but I'd rather have better video than audio quality anyways. Lastly, the mounting system is a little worrisome, the plastic clips are all very thin and feel fragile, and I'm worried about when winter hits if this plastic will be able to stand up to the test. I prefer a magnetic system but we'll see how well this system lasts. Overall this is a great camera for the money and would work well for just about anyone.

I recently added the Blink Outdoor 4 (4th Generation) Camera to my preexisting Blink Indoor Wireless Camera system. The camera itself has a small profile at just less than 7 inches square. The exterior is a weather resistant, matte, black plastic and is very similar in design to the indoor cameras. The front of the camera houses the lens with the camera status light beside it and a microphone at the bottom edge. This camera has two-way audio, which is fairly clear minus any background noises from the outside. The night vision image quality (1080p) is about the same as that of my Blink indoor cameras. The speaker is located on the edge of the camera to the left of the lens and on the back is a USB port with a rubber cover. This can be used to plug in the camera or with a Blink compatible solar panel. The battery compartment is held closed by a round, silver “lock”. Inside the battery compartment is the reset button. Out of the box the Blink Outdoor 4th Generation Camera was easily added to my existing Blink home security system by scanning the QR codes on the camera (located beneath the battery compartment cover and in the quick start manual) and the Sync Module (located on the back) using the Blink App and following the prompts. The Sync Module 2 is included, which allows for recording storage without a Blink subscription plan, but the required USB drive for storage is not provided. The Sync Module needs to be plugged into an electrical outlet using the supplied micro-USB charging cord and block and the Module and camera need to be within 100 feet of each other for optimal communication between the two. FYI the Sync module should be added on the Blink App prior to the camera. Camera setup and installation were pretty straightforward as well. The back cover was removed using a coin to turn the silver “lock” allowing the battery cover to be removed. Two disposable 1.5volt lithium batteries are included. These batteries are rated to provide up to 2 years of battery life dependent on device settings and use. When replacing the back cover ensure that the blink logo is at the top and on the same edge as the cameras lens. The camera can now be mounted using the provided hardware. The video playback of the Blink App has always seemed a bit delayed to me and depending on your Wi-Fi connection the audio can sound muffled. The video clips do not have a time or date stamp and I think the addition of both would make the system more user friendly. The Blink App allows extensive personalization of the enhanced motion detection system. This camera also allows for “person detection” but in order to take advantage of this feature a paid Blink subscription is required. The sensitivity of the camera could be better because I have had persons get fairly close (within 40 feet) to the camera before it detected movement. However, the notifications arrive quickly, within 5 seconds of detecting movement. The system allows for still images to be taken but the clarity of them diminishes dramatically over the span of 20+feet. Blink does offer the option of floodlights with some of their cameras but this security camera does not have that and could definitely benefit from the addition of a spotlight and/or siren. While the Blink Outdoor 4th Generation camera does exactly what it claims to do, it does so in an unimpressive way. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. The system’s features could definitely use some tweaking. It’s definitely not an entry-level camera but it does not offer any cutting edge technology either. Perhaps the 5th generation will provide some much needed upgrades.

I got an incredible deal for these 3 cameras so I really can not complain. The picture is good quality. I have no idea yet about the battery life but I have seen some people say it is horrendous so I guess we will see. I have been using them for about a month and a half and I have not gotten a low-battery notification yet so fingers crossed. I did purchase a Blink subscription to use the cloud because without it things move VERY slowly and you have no access to a thumbnail before you view your clip.

Very good quality camera. Easy installation, great price. I wish that I could purchase one in white. You do need to purchase the Internet hub for your signal but overall I am impressed

Great quality and easy to install. Bought these to add to our existing Blink cameras. Just know, in order to see the clips on these new cameras you either must have a blink subscription or you need a memory stick. Our old cameras did not require this. Still love them!

This camera does exactly what the specifications say it will, and I now have it installed looking out over an area of my property that can’t be seen from inside our house. I have used security cameras before, and, while the setup presented no problems, it is a little different from what I’ve normally encountered. Setting this up involves pairing TWO devices. Included in the box along with the camera itself is a small device about the size of deck of cards called a “sync module.” This device, which must be connected to a power source at all times (no batteries in it, but it comes with an AC power connector), is what you pair to your smartphone first. Once done, you pair the camera to the sync module, again through your phone. The camera itself is powered by AA-sized lithium batteries, two of which were included in the box and are something I had not seen before. There is a mini-USB port inside the case that you get at when the cover is opened to access the battery compartment, but it is apparently only used for firmware updates and the like and is not a power connection point. It will be necessary to keep on hand spare AA-lithium batteries when the ones included in the box eventually need to be replaced. The sync module needs to connect to your home wi-fi network, so it needs to be in range of your router to the extent that there are at least “three bars” of signal as stated in the installation guide. The camera then needs to be in range of the module. In my situation, I have the module located inside the garage only a few feet from the camera, which is outside on the other side of the wall, and the module, even at this distance, has sufficient signal from the router to operate properly. As far as using the camera, it couldn’t be easier. Open the app and tap either the video or snapshot icons, and a few seconds later you’re either watching a live video with sound or looking at a snapshot of what the camera saw at that moment. I actually had occasion to travel some distance from my home over the past week (more than 1000 miles), and I had no trouble connecting to the camera from the other side of the country. The camera is supposed to be usable with Amazon Alexa, but I do not have Alexa, so I could not try this feature. In summary, this is a perfectly fine security camera that should do what most anyone wanting a security camera needs.

Pros include: relatively low cost, relatively small size, and the rated two year battery life. Cons include: None yet. I did some research prior to getting this camera, and found that it is largely viewed to be the best camera in what I’ll term the “value camera segment”. It comes with two 3AAA lithium batteries which are supposed to last for about two years. As you’d expect, that will vary depending on your specific usage and the environment that the camera operates in. Setup is straightforward, just download the app and power up the blink sync module 2. The app will connect via Bluetooth and then proceed to ask you for your preferred WiFi SSID and password, and the app will pass that onto the blink sync module 2 and you are halfway home. Adding the camera is equally straightforward – if you read the directions. When you insert the batteries into the camera, note that (spoiler alert) the QR code for the camera serial number is on the internal camera body behind the cover that is removed for battery installation. So don’t do as I did and install the batteries and reinstall the back cover without adding the camera before doing so. Mount the camera, and if you’re interested in using the motion sensing capabilities of the camera, you take a photo and select in an 8 x 8 grid where you want the motion sensing to look, and the other parts of the grid are excluded for motion sensing. Pretty cool way to go about it.

Better Image Quality But Comes With a Dinky Mount

The Blink Outdoor 4 camera comes with the usual hub or module that you will probably leave in the box with it's USB cable if you already own Blinks. There is a lot of little white boxes that you will have in a pile after setting it up. The good part is that especially if you have the pre-existing Blink account and wifi module, the setup takes all of 3 minutes. There's a tiny little QR code you scan with the Blink app, and in moments you have the new one added to your app and account. Even Alexa immediately announced she found it and ID'd it with a long code name for the product, you still need to rename it if you want to ask her to show you the camera feed on one of the Alexa devices. To me--the Blink camera mounts have always been a simple rather cheap little mount that isn't all that easy to install and adjust. The mount is adjustable to aim, but there is no set screw or other hardware to make sure curious squirrels don't move it, which they have many times. Go for aftermarket mounts, you'll be much happier. The image quality seems to be better than the prior versions. I have never gotten the batteries to last 2 years, more like about a year with average action. it's a decent easily installed and hidden camera, I like the Blink products for that reason.

    Small camera

The Blink outdoor 4 is a nice small, easily concealable security camera. Different from other small ones in that it does use a base station of sorts, which Blink calls a sync module. The advantage of this sync module is that it has a USB port for connecting a thumb drive that can record clips locally. This makes it so if you choose not to have one of Blinks monitoring plans you can still save and view clips. Picture quality is so-so. it's slightly pixelated around moving object. Worse the faster they move. People aren't as pixelated as cars for example. Subscribing to the service includes the ability to have a people detection mode instead of just motion alerts. Definitely play with the motion alerts sensitivity as things like moving tree branches, small animals like squirrels or even trash blowing around will set it off. The blink app is intuitive and easy to use. I'm concerned over the claim that 2 A batteries can last up to 2 years, but only time will tell. So far so good. If you want an inexpensive decent security camera that won't break the bank, the Blink 4 is hard to pass up.

How did I live without these cameras? I have nothing but great things to say, the blink outdoor 4 product checks all the boxes. From product quality, extreme ease of installation to video quality that is so easily accessible on my phone app, there is nothing that I would change. The color and detailed quality of the video is amazing. I can speak to whomever is near the cameras and they can answer back, even while I’m away from home. I recommend to friends and family and have even purchased one for a family member. We feel we have up to the minute protection at our home, I get notifications when I am away and can keep a watchful eye on deliveries and my elderly parent. I am planning on purchasing a few more for our property in the near future.
