Not too bad for Blink's first doorbell

I've been looking on and off for a few years now for a video doorbell. One that preforms well, costs somewhere under $100.00, and gets good reviews. When I saw that Blink was coming out with their own doorbell, I thought great, but what too so long for them to do it. So, since I have the Blink home monitoring cameras outside, as well as Blink mini cameras inside, and the price was enticing, I thought I'd give it a go. In addition to the Blink security set up, I have the Amazon 4th generation Echo smart speaker with the Alexa app synced to my Blink system. It's on my nightstand so if motion is detected on my security system when it's armed, it tell me that I have motion at my garage camera, or back yard camera, or wherever motion is detected. This comes in handy if I forget to place my phone on my nightstand and I don't hear the notification from my Blink app on my phone. First off, the doorbell looks just about like any other security doorbell out on the market. It's nice that you have the choice of black or white doorbells. Inside the box, you have two lithium AA batteries, two screws and anchors to mount it where ever you will place it. Two wire nut twist connectors and a tiny tool to pry off the doorbell from the base when it's time to replace the batteries. Speaking of batteries, they are supposed to last two years, but I know that most likely won't happen. if your camera is constantly busy because people are ringing it, so video is running a lot, perhaps talking to someone through your doorbell to delivery people, or your mail person, I just don't see that happening. Now if perhaps not much goes on at your house, then maybe they last two years. No instructions in the box, but just head over to the Blink website for detailed set up instructions. Since I already have a Blink system set up at home, that saved me some time as I didn't have to download the Blink app and set that up. I set up my Blink doorbell using the batteries only as I have an older house, and I don't have a clue on what voltage my original doorbell operates on. Later on, I plan on having a friend who is an electrician come over and test the voltage and see if I can use the Blink doorbell wired. It took four tries to get my Blink doorbell to sync up to my existing sync module even though the doorbell and module are less than 10 feet apart. But as I mentioned, I live in an older house with thick plaster walls and the exterior where the Blink doorbell is mounted is solid brick. Not the thin decorative bricks that are on many houses. Since I'm using batteries only at this point, when someone rings my doorbell, it will notify me on the Blink app on my phone. And as I mentioned earlier that my set up includes an Amazon 4th generation Echo smart speaker, if someone rings my doorbell, then I'm also notified through my smart speaker. Unfortunately the notification through my smart speaker is not "ding dong" chime. It says something like motion at your doorbell. Maybe there is a way to change that, but I've not had too much time to do that as I've been pretty busy lately. I've also seen on some YouTube videos that if you have the Amazon Echo Show smart display that you can view who's at your door when you have your Alexa app synced with you Blink app. This would easier to see who"s at your door at night if you have the Echo Show smart display on your night stand instead of fumbling around for your phone, then unlocking it, etc. The picture quality is 1080p, which looks very good on my phone. I have not uploaded any video clips to my computer to see how they'll look on a 32 inch monitor, but I'm sure it will look pretty good. Not 4K great quality, but good enough picture quality to identify any porch pirates to the police if they ever come to my home. Overall, I give this new, first generation Blink video doorbell 3 out of 5 stars. It's not the best out there by any means, but priced at $50.00 it's a pretty good deal.

I had previously used a RING video doorbell. Now I use the Blink Video Doorbell Obviously the Ring wireless video doorbell was much more expensive and I installed it 4 years ago. It worked well but had to be recharged frequently. Tired of that. About a year ago, I install the latest Blink Wireless Camera System inside my home and outside in several locations. Lots of use because I have a lot of wild animal activity. They still have their original batteries installed (Lithium non-rechargeable by Energizer) and the batteries still report as "good" in the Blink App. Today I bought two of these Blink Video Doorbells to replace the Ring Wireless Doorbells. Installation was very easy and took 2 minutes at most.

Good Replacement to Your Regular Doorbell

The Blink video doorbell is a welcome addition to the rest of our Blink system, and I was happy to replace my old doorbell with it. It works with our doorbell transformer, so I was able to do a wired setup. From opening the box to completion, it took about an hour to set up. It took this long because I wasn't too sure of a couple of things. After snapping the video doorbell in place, it doesn't feel like it's snapped in or secured against the back cover. I checked several times and was not quite happy with it. It feels like you can rip it off because as you pull on it even slightly, you begin to see the back cover. I feel anyone can rip it off with enough force. This could of course be the case with many devices, but this especially easy to rip off due to its bulkiness (which I have no problem with) and the fact that there are six thin tabs that secure the doorbell to the back cover. I do not like the chime that the video doorbell makes itself. The quality of the chime is similar to that of a cheap toy that makes noise. I wish it could be disabled. The video quality is nice. It's a clean 1080p with lots of detail. The horizontal field of view is decent, but the vertical field of view could be better. As for the two-way talk, the person listening at the doorbell receives great voice quality. However, anyone viewing the doorbell camera feed gets much less quality. Thankfully it's mostly clear what's being said. We had about a three-second delay when we tested it. The price is undoubtedly what's going to enable consumers to pick this up, and I think this is a perfect start to having a smart doorbell if you don't already have one. There's definitely more this doorbell could have, but right now I just wish it was more physically secure.

    Affordable Entry Level Product

The Blink - Video Doorbell - Wired or wire free, Two way audio, HD video and Alexa Enabled - is a lower-cost option for having a video doorbell. Setting up Blink with its app is simple and quick. The video quality is very good. Notifications and recorded video within the app on my iPhone were also very good. It does require a Sync Module 2 (sold separately) and/or a monthly subscription to unlock all of its capabilities. Like others, I do wish there were options for the doorbell sound, but that's a minor issue for me. Also like others, I did find it very hard to properly attach the main unit to the back. And then, when trying to uninstall it (I wanted to try it out at multiple locations), I found it nearly impossible to un-attach. I am using it wirelessly with batteries and would normally not have to un-attach to change batteries except for once every other year. Still, I feared I would break the unit while using the included tool to remove the back. All-in-all I have mixed feelings about this product: It certainly does the basics well for an affordable price. Because of this, it is probably a good choice for someone who is just entering into the video doorbell arena. I would expect, as your home becomes more connected overall, you will consider upgrading your doorbell in the future. As a result, my recommendation for the Blink - Video Doorbell - Wired or wire free, Two way audio, HD video and Alexa Enabled - is as an entry-level product.

Good Budget Video Doorbell by Blink offering wired or wireless setup. I choose the wireless setup after downloading the Brink Home Monitor App full of features self help installation. Wish the installation of back cover mounting to the door was more user friendly like having adhesive to peel and stick to the door. I have my Blink Video Doorbell phone notification set and enable motion detection. You can set the video clip length all the way up to 30 seconds. There is monitoring battery life with some features to make effective for you to get the most for your security needs. Audio and HD video quality is great. So far so good Blink Video Doorbell in providing front door security and App notification for video of packages being delivered. Post back later on how long my wireless setup of Blink Video last before battery replacement.

Super easy to setup the Blink doorbell, and it works great! The app is very easy to use, and the motion alerts are not too sensitive like some other doorbells I have used in the past. 2 AA batteries eliminate the need to run wires to this which is perfect for my home with no prewired doorbell. Overall this is a very affordable option that works great and has no monthly fee! A win!

Handy, but device doesnt last long

We like the Blink doorbell camera and have the Sync 2 Module so we don't pay for monthly service. Sometimes camera is not sensitive enough other times too sensitive, but overall helpful to have for general security and monitoring for package delivery. The device is not weather hardy for Colorado and 18 months later we have no functioning doorbell until we get a new device. Not as worried about the camera, but no doorbell to alert when someone is at the door. Paying $60 for a hardware every 18 months feels unnecessary, but apparently the world doesn't make things lasting anymore. Mostly have to decide if the hassle/cost is worth the benefit. Will be checking for longer lasting devices, but at this price point most people will benefit from Blink. Tech Support advises there are weather proofing cases you can use to cover it. Would rather have a regular doorbell and find outdoor weather sturdy cameras instead.

I've been looking off and on for a video doorbell for a year or so. I've also read reviews on the ones I was interested in. Then Blink announces their first video doorbell....GREAT ! I already have a Blink security system with cameras outside and the Blink mini's inside. And, since the Blink video doorbell was only $49.99, it sounded great. The doorbell itself looks pretty much like all the other video doorbells out on the market today. Inside the box, in addition to the doorbell, you'll get two lithium AA batteries, two wall anchors, two screws, two small wire nuts and a little tool to pry the doorbell off it's base when it's time to change the batteries. If you were to loose this little tool, and yes, I mean little at just under 1 1/2 inches in length, the you could use a small flat blade screwdriver instead. It would be pretty easy to loose this little prying tool. The lithium AA batteries that are included with the Blink doorbell have a lifespan of up to two years according to Blink. Depending on how active your doorbell will be will really determine how long the lithium batteries last. Since I have the Blink outdoor cameras, they also use two lithium AA batteries, I just buy them when they're on sale, so I always have back up lithium AA's on hand. I hooked up my Blink doorbell using just the batteries for now as I have an older home, and I don't have any idea on the voltage to my existing doorbell. A friend is an electrician, so hopefully in the near future he can come over and using his voltmeter, he'll be able to find out my voltage. From my understanding, using your existing doorbell wiring will allow the Blink to use your home door chimes, but you still will need to have the two lithium AA batteries installed to power the Blink doorbell itself. Since I already have the Blink app on my phone, syncing the Blink doorbell was fairly easy. It took me four times to get it to sync up to my system, after that all was great. I also have the Amazon Echo smart speaker (4th generation) and I have my Alexa app linked to my Blink app, so I get notifications that someone is at the door on my Echo smart speaker. The Blink doorbell camera produces 1080p images and they look great on my cell phone. Now you're talking about an 6 " display, but it look very good. Feeding that image to a tv should still look pretty good in theory, but I've not tried that yet. Since I'm grandfathered in on my Blink security system, I don't have to pay for the storage, so I can't comment on that. But I do use a USB drive hooked up to my Blink sync module to save my security camera footage, and hopefully the doorbell footage will be able to be saved there too. While I've only had the Blink video doorbell hooked up for a week, so far my experience is pretty good. Still tweaking the distance setting a bit to get them to where I want them, but over all, I've pretty happy and feel that the $49.99 I spent has been worth it so far. For the money, I highly recommend buying the new Blink video doorbell.

Had this doorbell installed at my other place because I don't spend the time there like I used to. Also I do use two entrances The first one already has a doorbell camera so I decided to put this one on my second side entrance. Giving me more view of my house and the areas around me. No kidding I think I like this one better than I do my other one, I won't bother mentioning the brand but it is another brand. This brand seems a sharper faster and seamless video. Fairly easy to install and I went with the wired option because I don't want to take a chance on the battery option. Be just my luck when I needed to work it won't be working and it'll be a week until I get out there to change out the battery. Easy to use simple to set up and the app keeps it quick fast and fresh. Highly recommend this doorbell.

    OK entry level video doorbell

This video doorbell is pretty inexpensive, keep in mind, you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a barebones video doorbell, then this one is just ok. It sends a notification fairly quickly when the doorbell is pressed. Generally it takes less than 5-10 seconds. The video quality is pretty good in daylight and just ok at night. The audio quality is not bad. The unit is made of plastic and the mount is pretty tricky to get the doorbell to latch onto the back plate. I have mine hard wired, so I am not to worried about taking it on and off, but I can’t imagine taking it off to replace/charge the batteries. It seems like the plastic will eventually get brittle in the heat and cold and will break. The unit does not come with the angle bracket, if you want that, you need to pay extra. The lens is a wide-angle lens, so even though it is not aimed toward the person directly in front of the door, you do get a good view. The unit comes with 30 days of the Plus Plan trial. The home screen has a message that takes up half my screen stating that I have x days left. When the trial ends you lose video recording. You are supposed to get live views and motion alerts. My motion alerts don’t seem to work very well. Most of the time I only get alerts when the doorbell is pressed. If you are looking for a barebones video doorbell, I would recommend this one, but if you want something that can actually sense movement, then I would keep looking. The Blink doorbell is made by Ring. My mother-in-law has a more expensing Ring doorbell, and she gets notifications for any movement. I have a floodlight camera that is great for only detecting people. It is too bad the Blink or Ring doorbells didn’t automatically work that way.

The Blink Video Doorbell is a very nice device with easy installation and setup, and great integration with the Amazon Alexa ecosystem. In the box are the doorbell/camera assembly, mounting plate, two Energizer Lithium AAA batteries, and hardware, including mounting screws and anchors, wire nuts, and spare screws for the wiring connection. I am really impressed with the inclusion of the Energizer Lithium batteries. They're very good batteries that should last for a long time. Setup is as simple as downloading the Blink Home Monitor App (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, & Amazon Appstore), setting up an account, and following the in app instructions. Blink does require both email and phone number verification, but the verification codes come quickly and these layers add more security to your account. To mount the doorbell, turn off the power to your doorbell transformer, then use the enclosed template to pre-drill the two screw holes, attach the wires to the baseplate, screw the baseplate to the wall, and snap the doorbell onto the baseplate. Turn the power back on. That's it. Super easy! Alexa integration is accomplished by enabling the Blink Smarthome skill in the Alexa App on your smartphone, and linking your Blink and Amazon accounts. Once that's accomplished, you can use commands like, "Alexa, show the front door." to see live video feed from your Blink Doorbell at the front door on you Alexa device. You can also speak to the person ringing the doorbell via your Alexa device (obviously the Alexa device must have video capability). Finally, if you add the Blink Sync Module 2, you can store all your video clips locally for up to 10 cameras using an SD card, or you can choose to subscribe to Blink's cloud storage service to store your video offsite. Blink offers two levels of cloud service, and a handy chart comparing the options is available on the Blink web site. Overall, the Blink video door bell is a solidly built, useful device. And it's a great value at the current price, as well.
