Left Vivint for Blink because Vivint is expensive. This was a mistake. Blink is slow and inconsistent. I plan to try Nest or Ring.

I was excited to receive my Blink video doorbell with the Sync Module 2 included as I have 2 entrances on my front porch. I use a Ring on one and so this Blink was perfect for the other and it's facing a different direction for more security. It was packaged nicely but there were no printed instructions in the box. I had downloaded the Blink app but it was difficult figuring out how to mount it to the backplate. Was glad to be informed that the company had added a mounting instruction video to the app and sure enough it made all the difference. Presto! Up and on the backplate it went. I was a bit disappointed because the little piece that's on the bottom to lift the cover off when you change batteries broke away so now not sure how it will be when I need to remove it. All the pieces holding the cover on are made of plastic and very fragile. I feel this definitely could use an upgrade to metal or more heavy duty plastic to last. My Sync 2 module was a breeze to set up via the wifi. The camera pictures, especially in the day, are awesome. Crystal clear. At night it turns black and white but still clear enough to see okay. You do get a 30 day free trial of the Blink's premium plan upon activation but you can record photos/videos locally for no fee by using the Sync Module and a USB flash drive. I honestly like the premium features so may subscribe. I did not opt for the wired version, although I have a wired doorbell right underneath it. The wifi just seemed so much easier and my router is right on the other side of the door so it works very well. There is a 2 way audio feature, day and night HD live view, chime alerts and they say a 2 year battery life but I think that was just if you hardwired it. I did sync the system with my Amazon prime account and also with Alexa. You can answer your door from wherever you are using the Blink phone app and talk to the person as well as see them. I love that feature! For the very reasonable price of $84.98 which includes the Sync module 2 and doorbell it can't be beat! Except for the breaking of that little bottom part upon installation I am quite pleased overall. I highly recommend it and you can't be too safe in today's world so it's definitely worth the purchase!

This is my first video doorbell. I am not reviewing the Alexa part of the doorbell as even though i have Alexa i don't use it that often. Pros: 1. The foremost reason i chose this doorbell is that it can be connected both wireless or wired which gives the flexibility for people who do not have a wired doorbell. 2. Sync module - This is the best part as it helps us overcome any Amazon cloud based subscription which in my opinion is not needed if you have this sync module. It gives us the flexibility to store the motion clipts and live views by connecting an USB drive to the Sync module and we can delete the older recordings when needed. This saves lots of money what people spend on subscription. 3. Doorbell rung - We have access to HD Live view, 2 way audio and Infra red night video - Videos are 1080p and they are very clear for the price that we pay 4. Motion detection - It is possible to turn on and off the Motion detection from the the Home screen of the app. Cons: 1. Setup - Setup in minutes - Seriously? It took atleast 2 to 3 hours for me to install the doorbell as well to set it up. Installation: I am not that good at DIY installations. I thought there will be some kind of user manual that will be included with the Doorbell for installation and i was quite surprised. Amazon has got rid of all the printed user manuals. After lots of digging i was able to find the Troubleshooting step under Account > Contact Customer Service > under Technical Support click on support.blinkforhome.com > select New! Blink Video Doorbell. You will find all the details here including setup and installation here. Setup: This was the most daunting part. I am not inexperienced when it comes to technology but i found the setup most annoying. It was not really easy. After 2 unsucessful attempts of adding the doorbell and sync module and later deleting it, i had to call the customer support. Again dont call them during afternoon or evening or nights. After about 5 min of waiting on the line it was giving me the option to leave a message so that someone will call me back but i never got the call till next day. I had to again callback. This time i tried calling in the morning and i was able to get hold of an agent who asked me to add the sync module and then from the same page she was able to help me add the doorbell instead of clicking the + sign from the top tab. If there was proper instructions even within the app, it would have been easier. Also finding the user manuals is not easy as we have to search across different pages and finally navigate through multiple screens before finding the required user manuals or troubleshooting steps (Account -> Contact Customer Service -> under Technical Support click on support.blinkforhome.com -> select New! Blink Video Doorbell) 2. Mounting - I live in an apartment. I am not sure if I am allowed to mount the doorbell by using screws. It would have been nice if Amazon had provided an option to mount the doorbell by using 3M stickers. Not sure if Amazon backed out of that option as someone can steal it but i don't think that will ever happen as we get recorded videos that gets stored when someone presses the doorbell or even when motion is detected.

Too many times have I expected a delivery, and *think* I hear the doorbell. So what happens? I run down the stairs to either realize I may have just *thought* I heard the doorbell, see the famous "we missed you" slip on the door, or have my package waiting for me. And I may even go out on a limb and say I have had injuries due to doorbell mishaps going down the stairs. There had to have been a better way and Blink expands on a current technology and makes it even better. First, they give you the option to either run it wired, or wireless. My wife still likes to hear a chime, so the wired route is the route we have taken. Which, in the end works out well, as this will fit nicely where the old doorbell was. The wife is happy, so am I. First some technical things I absolutely love. I love the fact how easy it was to setup (even including the wiring, which is normally jolting - pun intended). Who cannot love a 1920x1080 image from a doorbell? This makes recognition of people and objects (the occasional animal visitor also: I'm talking about you orange neighborhood cat!) easy to spot. Alexa is enabled! If the doorbell sees someone (or something!) approaching or passing by - my wife and I both get alerted on our phones. If someone rings the doorbell, we get alerted. In addition, when the pesky salespeople come from *THAT* company trying to get us to switch to them because they are "in our neighborhood upgrading everyone from the old lines" - I can tell them to go away (and other various versions of that phrase) without even having to open the door. If they refuse to leave, I entertain them with my faux opera singing until they have had enough. I also have already had the pleasure of scaring a group of roaming *cough* "Convertors" by playing a rather demonic YouTube track through the doorbell. I never knew how handy a 2-way communication device in a doorbell could be before this. Or how...Well...Fun it could be! And the best part of all is, with the sync module, I can record all of this on a USB stick in HD for archival (and entertainment) purposes! Setup is extremely simple. All you must do is scan the QR code on the sync module, and the blink app walks you through the rest. Including instructions on adding your blink doorbell. It also includes handy instructions on how to mount to your existing wiring in case you already have an indoor chime. Then, you are done with the setup and never have to worry about it again. I always was a bit apprehensive about getting a "put it on your finger" doorbell, because reasons. Especially being forced to subscribe to something else. So, I am glad that Blink came out with something that I think is 100% better. Yes, they are the same company. But with the sync module, you DO NOT have to subscribe to save your videos like you have to do with other products. Now after having the pleasure to use it for a few days, I do not know how I lived without it before. No more falling, I mean running down the stairs. No more "surprise" annoying visitors. And having the peace of mind knowing that if the neighborhood crackhead/hoodlum tries to initiate a "forced visit" - there will be video. If you were on the fence about getting a "smart doorbell" - get off it and get the Blink WITH the sync module 2. You'll be glad you did! Heck, if you have the other one, replace it with a blink! No more subscription fees!
