Quick & Easy Setup, Clear Video, Works Great

I’ve had one previous experience with a video doorbell, and this experience was and continues to be, much better. I especially like the fact that there is a choice on whether it be wired to an existing doorbell system, or wire-free. My previous video doorbell was wired, and this set up was easier, as I chose the wireless route. You download the Blink Monitor App, follow the quick and easy step-by-step instructions both within the app and on the box, and away you go. In no time at all I was testing out the various features and video setup. You also have a choice to link the doorbell to your Amazon account/Alexa; while I do have an Amazon account, I chose not to link it and everything still works as needed. (You do have to create a Blink account within its app.) Everything can be controlled via the app, to customize notifications and alerts. You can see who’s at the door instantly, and choose to be notified when the doorbell is pressed, when motion is detected, if the temperature of the camera is out of range, and also choose to be alerted if the doorbell has low battery, if the camera is offline, and if the whole system is offline. There is two-way audio so you can communicate with whomever is at the door, and the sound is clear. The HD video is also crisp and clear. My husband and I have the app set up on both of our iPhones, and we set up an older iPhone in our kitchen to be used purely as a monitor for the system as well. You can also set up an Amazon Echo Show to be a monitor, too. There is also an option to subscribe to a Cloud service that will store your pics/video for a certain period of time, depending on how much you’re willing to spend per month. Or, as I chose, you can use local storage on a USB drive via the Sync Module, which has a USB-A port. I really like this option—and being given the choice—of whether to utilize a subscription service, or simply to supply my own storage. All in all, I would recommend this video doorbell based on its ease of setup and installation, its quality of video, and its functionality, along with its various customizations regarding notifications and alerts.

I have had a few smart door bells. Each time I have a new favorite and this my current one! I first want to say that Blink did an awesome job with price point and size. Most smaller smart door bells in this category can cost 2x or 3x more. I cannot and will not mount items onto my siding and only on the door trim. This doorbell successfully fits right on my standard size trim around my front door. Video is outstanding and is very comparable to the other doorbells I have had. In addition you have the option of Wire (it will work with a regular door chime) or wire-free access. I of course went the wire-free way. Lots of packed features that will help you and your needs. Including live view, two way audio, 1080 HD view, and the ability to use your own local storage (read the next paragraph) rather than paying for a subscription. Now the camera quality seems to be a little low from my standards but I am happy with it and as long as I can see people clearly day and night then that is what I want. If you are like me and were wondering what is the purpose of the Sync Module2, I hopefully have your answer. They Sync Module plugs into your router to allow you to have your own cloud of storage specifically for your blink products or more importantly your video doorbell. You can put a flash drive of up to 256gb into the module so you do not have to pay a subscription fee to store your videos and photos from the doorbell's camera. Yes you read that right. Finally a successful and easy way to buy a wireless smart doorbell with the option of having your own storage capabilities. Now blink still offers subscription packages but I am happy with the Module 2. I say this is a great buy and a must have. If you are deciding between getting the Module 2 or not (you can get it with or without) I definitely recommend getting it with the Module 2 so you can avoid subscription fees. I will recommend this to many people as I know were in a subscription heavy world and some want out.

Entry level doorbell for your entry

My doorbell connection shorted and stopped working a while ago. So I was glad to get this Amazon Blink video doorbell + Sync Module 2 with its promise of 2 years on battery life. To get that longevity, you have to install the Sync Module 2, else the batteries will run out faster and some features are not available. One great benefit of battery operation is you could use the camera anywhere including RV, office where you don’t have access to wiring, sheds, porches, or even as a general security camera. It’s small enough to install in many places. There are a few caveats on the Sync Module 2. First is that it only works on 2.4 GHz wifi. The second is if you get an older one (serial number is less than 2xx-200-000), it may have outdated firmware that cannot accept wifi passwords with special characters like @ % : $ ‘ = “ ; or multiple spaces in a row. In that case, you will have to change your wifi password temporarily to get the module connected, let it upgrade its firmware, then change the wifi password back. Obviously this is extremely frustrating if you’re not aware of it. The last caveat is you should install and set up the Sync Module 2 first, and then set up the camera and add it. Once you’re set up, the nice thing about the video doorbell + sync module is that you don’t need to subscribe to Blink’s cloud service to store videos. Instead, the sync module can store clips locally on a thumb drive. The doorbell itself uses a 1080p camera and has a decent set of basic features, especially for the price. For example, it has night vision and the ability to exclude zones from responding to motion. But it doesn’t have HDR for better video quality, or person detection, features found in the more expensive Ring products, also by Amazon. All in all, this is a very well priced entry level doorbell.

Despite the fact that video doorbells have been around for a while, I was never an adopter. I have security surveillance cameras so I thought that was enough. After trying out the Blink doorbell, I see that it's a simpler option for maintaining monitoring in a specific area. For this review I installed the doorbell on backyard door side. I did this via the wireless method due to me not wanting to spend what I can only guess would be hours spent with a cordless drill. The overall doorbell took me about 20 minutes to install. Like most devices these days, you will need to download the Blink app onto your smartphone. The app interface is pretty easy to navigate. You can see what's going on in the area that you placed the doorbell. I set up the motion detection and since there isn't much motion in the backyard I switched it to idle until the doorbell is pressed option. According to Blink the batteries that you need for wireless mode should last for roughly two years. That's actually pretty awesome. The quality of the video is excellent. What you get is a crisp 1080p experience. The real hero of this bundle is the sync module. All you need is a USB device, and you can save all of your files. When someone rings the doorbell I get a notification on my phone via the app. I think it's a nice touch. There's two way speech so you can talk to the person that's outside your door. All in all it's a great doorbell. It's not as pricey as some of the other ones out there, and it has a good amount of features on its app. The sync module allows you control the saving settings locally.

Very easy set-up. The product itself worked well; bell, camera, etc operated exactly as advertised. Overall, pretty satisfied with the product. If I have any criticism, it's that between the time I purchased it and seeing the prompt to give a review the price dropped more than twenty dollars apparently. So, not quite the Best Buy. But, a good purchase.

I have had the Blink Video Doorbell + Sync Module 2 for several days now, and I have really nothing but great things to say about this video doorbell. So let me start from when I received it. I was a bit concerned when, after the courier dropped off the package on my front porch, I noticed the shipping box had some obvious signs of rough treatment during its journey to my house. But as I opened up the shipping box, I was relieved to see how well protected the unit was inside the box. Not a bit of damage. After unpacking it, it was time to get everything setup, installed and ready to use. Now let me say this, I thought I could wing the process, and after getting super frustrated (and wasting over an hour) I decided to actually follow the instructions. In a few minutes the unit was ready to mount. I chose the wired install. Because the trim through which the original doorbell was installed is not perfectly flat, but has a raised trim around the border, I had some difficulty getting the mounting plate prepared to mount the main unit. Because I tightened the mounting plate too tightly, it somewhat bowed. This cause the unit to not fit correctly, and would not snap into place. After a few adjustments to the tightness of the screws, I was finally able to mount the unit on the plate. After that the rest of the installation and setup was a breeze. The Blink requires an app download in order to function properly. This too was a very easy process, and in no time I was ready to test out the doorbell. As I went through the app and explored all the options, I was super impressed by all the choices. Blink thought of everything when they put the app together. The app has a very simple yet comprehensive and intuitive menu layout. After setting everything the way I wanted, I tested the unit. After arming the Blink via the app, I waited a few seconds and then approached my door. After a few short seconds I received a notification that someone was at my front door. I also have a separate video surveillance system installed and programmed to send notifications. I received the Blink notifications about 15 seconds earlier than the video surveillance system. Because I set the motion sensor to max, i was many feet away from the door when I received the alert. In fact, its motion detection is so super sensitive that it actually alerted on clouds moving overhead. I had to lessen the sensitivity. I know its too late to make a long story short, but the Blink Video Doorbell + Sync Module 2 has performed flawlessly. It works perfectly. One of the functions that truly stands out is the two-way audio. Being able to speak to a person from miles and miles through a doorbell is mind-boggling, and the quality is superb. Because a lot of factors are involved with wi-fi quality, it sometimes takes a few seconds for audio communications to travel back and forth. The doorbell is particularly good at night, and the images are extraordinarily good considering the price point of the unit. It beats out the quality of other doorbells that cost hundreds of dollars more. When it is all said and done, the Blink doorbell is something I would highly recommend. The price is great, the performance is outstanding, and its features are outstanding. If i was asked to name one thing I did not like about this doorbell, the one and only thing I could say is that it is a bit large. It is several times larger than a traditional doorbell, and looks a bit strange. But when I consider the unit also houses the rechargeable batteries (which are said to be able to last up to two years!), well, its size is understandable. Again, I would highly recommend the Blink to anyone looking for THE superior video doorbell.

This is coming from a consumer who has multiple Blink cameras in not only my main house but also my vacation home. I absolutely love that this system recognizes the different Wifi locations and I can view both homes on the same app…. can’t say that for other manufacturers and I have tried them all. Setting up this doorbell cam was easy an I opted for the non-wired version as my “doorbell” is actually a camera for my driveway. Set up took approximately 5 minutes and install where I wanted was simple. The sync module was easy to set to my account and the camera even easier. Viewing angles and quality of image were stellar. No hesitation to recommend this! App control is easy and seamless. Highly recommended!
