How Dustin Robot Proved Me Wrong And Won My Heart

From Skeptical to Surprised: My First Impressions I’ll be honest - when I ordered the bObsweep Dustin Robot Vacuum & Mop Combo, I wasn’t totally confident in my choice. I’ve always stuck with the big-name brands, and I’d barely heard of bObsweep before. That alone made me wonder whether I was taking a gamble. But the price was hard to ignore, so I figured… why not give it a shot? The moment it arrived, my hesitation started to fade. The unboxing experience felt surprisingly premium. Inside were the robot, the charging base, and a generous set of extra tools and replacement parts. Setting it up took maybe fifteen minutes, and most of that was just me exploring the app - which, by the way, is incredibly clear and easy to use. It immediately felt like the company actually thought about the user experience. Putting It to the Test in My Chaotic Office I decided to test the Dustin Robot in the toughest room I have: my office. It’s basically an obstacle course - constant foot traffic, a big meeting table, chairs everywhere. After giving the robot an hour to charge, I started its first cleaning run and watched its progress through the app. To my surprise, the first run lasted twenty-one minutes and went way better than expected. The mapping and object detection were shockingly good for a brand I’d never tried before. It only bumped into furniture twice, and on the next pass, it avoided those same spots entirely. That alone told me the robot was actually learning the space. The suction power stayed strong the whole time too - easily on par with some of the pricier models I’ve used. Mopping Performance & The Base Station That Means Business Next up was the mopping feature. On my office floors, it did a solid job keeping things clean day-to-day. It struggled a bit with dried mud (which honestly is tough for most robot mops), but for regular maintenance, it performed really well. It’s definitely more of a “keep things clean” mop than a “scrub disaster zones” mop. The base station, though, deserves its own shoutout. When the robot docks, the base kicks in with a powerful suction that empties the dustbin automatically. You can actually hear how strong it is. Since setting it up, I’ve barely had to do any maintenance at all. It’s become my main cleaning tool in the office, and it’s been incredibly reliable. The Real Talk: Strengths and Small Limitations No robot vacuum is perfect, and this one is no exception. Like every round robot, it can’t fully reach into tight corners. That’s just the nature of the shape, not a flaw in the design. I still do a quick manual touch-up in those spots when needed. But honestly, considering the price, the Dustin Robot delivers outstanding value. It cleans well, navigates intelligently, mops effectively, and the base station is a huge bonus. It outperforms several higher-priced competitors I’ve tried, and it does it without cutting corners. If you’re looking for a dependable, budget-friendly robot vacuum and mop combo that doesn’t feel cheap or underpowered, I can confidently recommend the bObsweep Dustin. It surprised me in all the right ways.

If you have any rugs forget it. The batteries die super fast. The app is trash. There is a reason its so cheap. Its a month old and customer service wont do return exchange or anything… i can continue. The mopping is a job it speeads water on the floor. The only good thing is when it empties the trash it is so strong it makes my lighys flikker in my house….and shakes the glasses in the cabinets like an earthquake…id be open to try a replacement but thisncompany doesnt care.

frustrating out of the box experience with Dustin

Let me preface this review with the fact that I have had about a half dozen Robot vacuums and some with mop features over the last six years. Ranging from the most basic iRobot models to a Eufy Mop/Vac. All of them generally do a good job, only one (the Eufy) is proficient in everything it does (especially mopping, which most just spread dirt and do not extract it from the cleaning pad or roller). The Bobsweep Dustin Combo on the surface appears to have all the must have features, including LIDAR which is really helpful for mapping your rooms and avoiding objects, so foundationally the Bobsweep is ahead of the game. Also, part of the Bobsweep Dustin Combo is a dustbin empty function which pulls debris the robot vac picked up and sucks it out of the robot into the docking station, another plus. Yet another feature from the mopping perspective is two independent spinning mops (as opposed to a stationary pad, that was on my first robot vac/map which basically just spread dirt around). With all this I had high hopes for the Bobsweep Dustin Combo, all the ingredients for a stellar robot vac and mop combo are there. However, reality sets in and granted my observations regarding this robot are in comparison to two others I actively use on the first floor of my house and another I use on the second floor. My home has some obstacles, but nothing that other robot vacs can routinely handle with minimal issues. The bObsweep - Dustin Robot Vacuum & Mop, Combo with Dual Spin Mops had numerous issues I have not encountered with others. First, the device maps out your home layout and does a good job with the LIDAR. First indicator of difficulties I have been encountering with the robot is that it NEVER completes a cleaning cycle without getting stuck, it will wrestle with any small rugs you have on your flow, whether they be low profile or the more difficult thicker shag style rugs. (In all fairness my other robot vacs occasionally have issue with the shag rugs). The Bobsweep on the other hand has never seen a rug it does not want to have a cage match with, even with the smartsense feature enabled which raises the mops when on carpet, it rarely avoids getting tangled up with a small rug and spinning or dancing on top of it. I even removed the spinning mops and ran the robot in vacuum mode, which only slightly provided better results. The robot may behave better if you have nothing but flat floors without carpet and generally in these areas it performed satisfactorily, with the spinning mops being particularly effective. Also, the first few cleaning cycles it would occasionally get “lost”, unable to find the base station. When it did find the base station, it had issues docking even though the area was clear and uncluttered where the base station was located, eventually I just placed it on the dock and made sure the contact areas met the charging prongs on the base station. The next cleaning cycle seemed to resolve itself and successfully dock/charge, so unsure what adjustments it made. As for cleaning, it did a good job when it did not get hung up, also the mop function worked well again when it did not get stuck on something. The concept of spinning mop heads is good and cleans flat floors like LVP or hardwoods well, however the unit does not return to the base station to extract liquid grime like my Eufy S1 Pro Omni (which is a significantly more expensive robot vacuum and mop which uses a cleaning solution and gathers up dirty water post mopping and puts it into the docking stations dirty water bin). The comparison between the Bobsweep and the different class Eufy is perhaps unfair. Reviewing some of the support material for Bobsweep (many videos and troubleshooting guides on their YouTube channel) there are a number of problems and solutions that are available. However foundationally I do not have a lot of time to troubleshoot these types of devices and try to resolve the basic problems I encountered with the Bobsweep Dustin Pro out of the box, other robot vacuum models I have used and currently use do not need this much babysitting and only OCCASIONALLY get hung up on something in my house. The Bobsweep Dustin Combo NEVER completed a cycle successfully. So, in this case, it is a “you” situation Dustin, not me. Bobsweep Dustin Combo falls somewhere in the middle of Bobsweep line up, so other models may perform better, but at the price point there are better choices. >>> PROS >> LIDAR for advanced mapping and object avoidance >> Powerful dust extraction when the vacuum docks >> Spinning mops design cleans well <<< CONS << gets stuck constantly << Battery life is not the greatest, seems to only be good for about 600 square feet of vac/mop mode before it needs to be recharged << gets “lost” more than other robot vacs I have used << mobile app might be USA based (something they tout) but it seems very rudimentary in comparison to other brands.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed. After the third time using “Dustin” it failed to work properly, made loud noises after we moved it to level 2 of suction to clean the floors. We cleans the roller brush underneath but to no avail. Thanks to Best Buy for working with us on returning the item and shipping it back and giving us our money back. We may start looking for another brand.

The Dustin model is the best yet!

I've had my Dustin (or Bluey as my 4-year-old named him) for about 3 weeks now, and I absolutely love it! We've had a few Bobsweep products over the years, starting with our Bobsweep PetHair Plus, which was a great start, but there's no doubt the technology has improved. The only thing we haven't seen on newer models that the first one had that we liked was the UV light for disinfecting. Otherwise, everything has been an improvement, from the quality of the parts to the ease of cleaning the vacuum. This new one takes that to a new level with the self-cleaning, which works very well, albeit a bit loudly for a brief moment. We also have a previous model, the Bobsweep SLAM, and that has been an amazing model as well. This one is similar, so it maps the whole house and does a great job at cleaning everywhere, and very thoroughly, even on the eco-power setting. It also fits under almost all of our furniture, even some low pieces. In addition to the self-cleaning feature, another new feature I love is the ability (in the app) to have the Dustin continue cleaning the floor if his battery dies before finishing the whole floor. With that setting, he goes back to his dock, charges, and returns to clean any missed areas. The self-cleaning bin is a bit big, especially compared to the small charging dock of the SLAM model, but that's the price to pay for self-cleaning, and we just found a nice out of the way spot for it. On top of the performance and quality of the product, I can never say enough good things about the Bobsweep customer service. I've communicated with them several times throughout the years, and the responses and help have always been 5 stars! I had to use them more in the beginning, because honestly, the parts on the first PetHair Plus model we had didn't always last too long. But I have yet to use them for the SLAM, which we've had over a year, or the Dustin. I will be sticking with Bobsweep for all my robot vacuums for the foreseeable future!

Former Roomba owner now a bObsweep convert

I am a two time Roomba owner having purchased my last Roomba several years ago before self emptying and mapping options were anywhere near an affordable price. I was becoming tired of having a Roomba that blindly bumped its way around the house getting stuck several times per session and thought I would give Dustin a try. Wow! This has been an extremely pleasant experience. Set up was simple, Dustin was renamed, and Hairold set about mapping the house. I set up a few exclusion zones where Hairold could avoid the extension cords under the couch and to stay clear of the dog food bowls. Hairold expertly navigates all other obstacles on his own, expertly navigating in and around dining room chair legs and coffee table legs. I was only able to use Roomba in one half of the house because the other half was full of obstacles where Roomba would constantly get stuck. Oh, and I have the vacuuming set to high and Hairold is still quieter than Roomba. Not only is Hairold's motor/vacuum quieter, you don't hear the sound of consistent bumping into walls and furniture like I did with Roomba. I should point out that although Hairold is quieter during operation, the self-emptying process is a bit loud, but only for about 3 seconds. The only issue I had was that although Hairold has enough battery power to clean the entire first floor in one session, he picks up so much dog hair that the chamber gets clogged and won't self empty. This was easily solved by scheduling Hairold to clean two rooms then return to self-empty, clean the next two rooms then return to self empty, and finally to clean the last room before returning to self empty, charge and rest until tomorrow. Hairold has been running 5 days a week for the past 8 weeks without any problems. I haven't tried out the mopping function yet, but am very happy with vacuuming capabilities.

Pros: Easy and straightforward to setup - connects to your network relatively quickly. Cons: Every 30-60 seconds an error code is thrown and it stops cleaning. This has made the unit completely inoperable. I suspect I have a defective unit as it is brand new.

A Robot the is almost perfect

I seems like we have had almost every robotic vacuum that has ever been made. Most of them roam around the house using sensors or cameras to avoid obstacles and getting stuck. Each version seems to get slightly better but none compare to Dustin. Dustin upgrades robot vacuums in a way similar to when your flip phone was replaced by the smart phone. Dustin maps your house using a type of radar (multiple maps can be stored). He uses these maps to ensure that he hits every spot. The app displays the maps and allows you to name rooms, create no mopping areas, and no sweep zones (see picture). These features eliminate almost every case of the unit getting stuck. The scheduling allows the user to choose rooms to clean and stores a report of his actions (see picture). Lots of stuff comes with Dustin. Spare filters, bags, etc… (see picture) The base contains a high quality vacuum bag that we’ve never had to replace. We just dump its contents inside it into the trash weekly. You can schedule the unit to empty the bin or do it manually. We prefer it manually so it doesn’t wake us after Dustin’s late night cleanings. One of the biggest improvements is the mopping attachment. The dust bin has a reservoir for water and a small clip-on cloth attachment, rather than having to change out the dust bin with a separate mopping one. We have yet to discover all the new features but Dustin has far exceeded our expectations. The only downside is that Dustin isn’t inexpensive at $1099 retail, but a great value if you can get him on sale

    A superior Robot Vacuum

I've tried quite a few robot vacuums. I've heard people say you have a Robot vacuum for day to day stuff, but for real vacuuming, you have to get a real vacuum. To me if you need two vacuums, what's the point? My time with the bObsweep - Dustin Robot Vacuum & Mop, needing to purchase another vacuum is unnecessary. Setting up the bObsweep was very simple. The instructions are broken down in to 4 steps. Everything went smoothly from adding the accessories to the vacuum, to connecting the vacuum to the app. I've had issues "locating" vacuums, or connecting vacuums to the wifi, this one however worked super easy. The vacuum mapped out my room faster than most vacuums I've tried out previously. The Lidar sensor does a great job of mapping out the area around it. The main question you should ask about any vacuum is how strong is the suction power? The bObsweep vacuum is advertised as having 8,000 Pa suction power. I can't verify that, but I will say when I've had it vacuum areas in my room, it gets everything up, no problem. Utilizin the map it set up, I tested it out vacuuming an area where my cat spilled his food. I chose the specifc area, the vacuum swiftly went there, cleaned the area, then went back to it's charger. Having the dock and the self-emptying bin for sure comes in handy. While bObsweep states the vacuum detects carpet and lifts the mini-mops, it may have not lifted them high enough as checking the vacuum I could see things stuck to the mini-mop attachments. While the interface on the bObsweep app looks a little dated, the vacuum gets the job done. For those looking for a solid robot vacuum that actually vacuums, I'd strongly recommend the bObsweep - Dustin Robot Vacuum & Mop.

Recently, upgraded our Bobi Pet Robotic Vacuum to The Dustin Self- Emptying Robot Vacuum. Our family has two kids, a long hair cat and our newest addition a golden retriever. Needless to say it’s a must in our house to have a robotic vacuum! Dustin definitely has some noticeable upgrades that I love! First, he vacuums the perimeter of the room and then goes back and forth in a sections until he clears that room. I saw crumbs coming from under my baseboard that Dustin was sweeping out/ picking up. Dustin is very quiet and is very good at finding its charging station. The self emptying feature is the only part that is loud, but this is over in seconds and or can be turned off. Our old vacuum didn’t understand that there was feet in front of it, and would come vacuum your feet. Dustin definitely doesn’t run over any feet! I find cleaning Dustin is also easier and very easy to remove parts. I am glad we continued to stay with bObsweep! They truly have the best customer service/ warranty.

I don't normally write reviews unless I reall like a product and Dustin is great! He does a good job helping me keep my floors clean. I just used the mopping option for the first time and was happy with the shine the damp mopping left on my floors. I dont think it is meant for very dirty, sticky floors but my hardwood floors are oil treated so I used the lowest performance level and it shined them up. I set the performance to high for vacuuming. My home is 2660 sq ft. and Dustin goes back to his station once, recharges and then finishes the rest of the house. I dont think any of the robot vacs will work well on shag carpet (i dont have any), but he does a good job on my large area rugs in my living room and entry. The mapping program is great, especially when I only need to clean one room or send Dustin to clean a small area. I especially like the self emptying feature, my old robot did not have it. The app is very user friendly too. I would highly recommend Dustin. It is a great addition to my housecleaning crew (I happen to be the only other employee!!).
