The songs on this album are either really great (Queen of California, Something about Olivia, Shadow days), or they are just songs to fill up an album. Overall, this is a great buy for $6.99.

There are not many surprises on this album just more of the same kind of music that have been on his last couple of albums. I wish he would take more chances with his music. He is a really good guitar player!

A different kind of John. A change of pace that is great for a mellow kind of Sunday.

This cd is different from john mayors earlier work. It is more country influenced. I liked it.

    Mayer Returns with Folky Soul

For those of you who have been a fan of John Mayer for some time, read no further; I have nothing to say other than "It's a new John Mayer album" to convince you to buy it. For the rest of you, let's dive into a brief summary of events that have led to this point. John Mayer is a 7-time Grammy Winning, multi-platinum singer/song writer /guitarist who broke out into the pop radio scene with hits like "No Such Thing", "Your Body is a Wonderland", and "Daughters" in the early 2000's and has since matured into one of the most recognized male voices of the past decade. Since the release of his career-defining record "Continuum", Mayer has also been held among the world's best guitarists, particularly those in the Blues family tree, and seems to be recognized as one of their own, having shared the stage with legends like Eric Clapton and B.B. King. Born and Raised is Mayer's 5th studio album and is, in this fans opinion, arguably his best work yet. It's impossible to touch on the intricacies of the sounds and tones that compile into this masterpiece, but suffice it to say that it blends Mayer's signature soulful vocals with folk-like chord progressions and simple, yet honest and heartfelt lyrics and melodies. Like all of John's albums, one can simply put it on, and listen to it in its entirety without skipping over "not so good" tracks. There are certainly stronger songs on the record, such as "Shadow Days" and "Something Like Olivia", but when you hear the Banjo-driven, story-telling vibe of "Walt Grace's Submarine Test", you'll find yourself truly embedded into the soul of Born and Raised. "Born and Raised" is a lovely and welcomed addition to the discography of John Mayer. As any long-time fan will tell you, each album of his will transcend the boundaries of what you thought Mayer was capable of delivering. Born and Raised is without a doubt the most raw and honest of Mayer's releases to date. Its lyrics are captivating and playfully tug at your heartstrings from start to finish. I would not hesitate to recommend this to a fan of anything involving the acoustic guitar. It is a must have especially for anyone who wants to own an album that will define the year's music. 5-stars all day long.

I love the song Born and Raised. The harmonica throughtout this whole CD is great. Don't get to hear that sound much anymore, especial one who can really wail. Mayer is a great story teller so I sure hope he doesn't quit as he has hinted at, that would be a horrible lose to the music world.

This is my favorite Mayer album to date. Excellent playing and songwriting imo. Fantastic mix and sound quality. Playing through my Sonos players the sound is amazing. Not the same old JM album.
