Sounds Good and Fun to Build

I built this with my 8-year-old who is starting to get interested in electronics (I build my own computers, so he gets a lot of exposure).
The kit is well packaged and it's a lot of fun to unbox together. Inside are some experiments with speaker components. You play around with these and then set them aside to build the actual speaker. My little guy got a kick out of making various things into a speaker in one of the experiments.
Building the speaker is easy for little people. It's mostly plug and play with a few components and the case clips together. The case is much heavier and sturdier than it look in the photos. I was expecting the walls to be fairly thin but they're actually very thick and strong.
The speaker sounds good and is compact enough to fit in his room on a bookshelf. It is not rechargeable, so it needs to be plugged in to work.

Great if you have an iOS Device

Please note, you need an Apple iPhone or iPad to get the most out of this kit. I really wish they had multiple platforms, for the app. Hopefully in the near future they will. But check to see if this has changed because without iOS device it limits the fun you can.
That said I had fun with my kids putting this together, and playing with it hence the higher rating. We had an enjoyable afternoon with laughs, the learning though would have been better with the app as well as having some more experiments.
Overall not a bad little speaker that the kids can play with, just could have been improved with having the app on multiple platforms.
Still an afternoon having fun with the kids is worth at least four stars for me.

The Bose Speaker Cube is an extraordinarily fun activity for children to learn how sound is produced and take part in building a speaker with amazing sound quality.
The instructions make the assembly process very easy to complete. Before you know it, your children are able to play their favorite music through the Bose Cube and dance around as they use the mobile app to control the lights.
The Bose speaker cube is really a fantastic new way for kids to enjoy music on a quality speaker and embrace the satisfaction of building it and a learning how the components work together.
I would recommend to this to friends and family.

I got this for my 15 yo son as a "here's hoping this interests him" gift...needless to say it did not disappoint! Instructions are well thought out and easy to follow. Everything you need is in the box and my son (took his time) had it done in a couple of days with very little help from me. Before this he didn't care about any type of trade and after putting this together (and taking it apart/putting together several additional times) he's really shown an aptitude towards electronics! Thank you Bose for showing my boy that he CAN do it!!

My daughter is picky in choosing gadgets, she always prefer the best.
BOSEbuild Speaker Cube was one of her best pick and she loved to build and experiment producing sound on different objects and surfaces. Components are high quality build and best for kids to handle.
Provided videos tutorials are self explained and truly helpful for kids.
Cons: Only downside I found for BOSEbuild Speaker Cube is that it doesn't support Android devices, bummer but manageable.

Good sound and neat experience for the kids...

Built this with my kids. I would say the older the kids the better but not too old. The app was thorough and fun but will be uneventful for the really young or the older. I can appreciate the experience and can say it was neat to build as a parent with my kids. The sound is nice for this but once the project is over I'm questioning if I want to actually use it or save it as a keepsake. I will say I am very impressed with the quality of the speaker and the project overall. I would say it would be nice if there was a speaker grill to protect the speaker since it meant to be used and built by kids. I was equally surprised that the app only was IOS and there was nothing for Android.

Great Project and learning experience

I received the BoseBuild Speaker and was very excited to do this with my daughter. She loves music and I knew this was going to be a great experience for her to learn how sound is produced.
First, the one thing that almost ruined it and made it sit in a box for almost 2 weeks. The learning instructions app is only on Apple. What a big downer, I only have Google Android products in my home. After searching for a family member or friend that has an Apple iPhone, I was able to invite them over for dinner and asked to use their phone.
Now, the good part! The product and idea of the build is amazingly thought out. To be able to teach my daughter how a speaker works and the ability to try and make anything into a speaker was so much fun. We used boxes, cups, bottles, tubes and anything else we could get to the table. My grandfather used to build custom speakers for high end clients, so it was neat to spread the knowledge of what he did.
The actual cube is high quality built, the construction takes what a 8 yr old can dish to it. The sound is typical Bose sound and even through Bluetooth it is crisp and loud. The lights are a great touch and have multiple settings for colors and moving to the beats. The design cards that come with it are neat, but we made our own from construction paper and my plotter for a custom touch.
My daughter cannot go a day without her speaker now, she is always listening to it and still using the coil and magnet daily and making things into a speaker.
Great job Bose but please, remember us Android guys next time and I will give you 5 stars.

Great Weekend Rainy Day Project

I have a 10 year old who loves to listen to music. I originally gave him one of my cheap Bluetooth speakers but picked this up to get him a better one and for the DIY aspect.
This is a great weekend Build-It-Yourself type project to do with your kid. If you have the patience to let your child do most of the work, they should do a pretty good job with minimal to no help from parent(s) even though you want to help. They learn along the way with the help of an iPhone/iPad only app. Thankfully my wife has an iPhone as I'm Android. I do wish there was an Android version of the app.
Being from Bose , the sound quality is decent, too. However, you're getting it more for the DIY aspect and that learning experience than the sound. Reasonable price for what you get out of it.

Bose gives you the chance to build your own speaker with the BOSEbuild Speaker Cube. While I don't have a child at the 8+ years recommended age range, I was a kid once with interests in gadgets and electronics. This kit is akin to the science kits and build-a-radio kits of my youth (am I that old?), so it definitely has appeal to the imaginative or creative type.
The finished product, if you followed the instructions properly, provide you with the signature Bose sound and quality you'd expect from the signature brand. However, you're purchasing this for the building, learning, and creative aspects and this product shines in those respects. A curious child who excels in problem-solving will follow guided steps (with the included Apple app) and instructions, and they will find joy in creating his or her own customized speaker.
This product may not appeal to everyone; once completed, it's unlikely a person will want to take it apart and repeat, so this aspect of the product is somewhat finite. But those who do complete the project should find their efforts rewarded with a quality, personalized Bose speaker.
Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Awesome Project For My Daughter

My 11-year-old daughter thoroughly enjoyed this project. When I first explained to her what was in the brown box that was delivered, she seemed interested. The first time she sent a signal to the coil, she was a little scared of what it was going to do next. As soon as she taped it down and heard the sound coming from it, she was loving it. As she was putting the speaker together for the final project, she was giddy. Now, she's enjoying her speaker and actually has an appreciation for how it works.
A little tip, close the app on your phone to be able to control the LED colors with the slider on the back of the speaker. You actually have to completely close the app.

Great for 8 & 11 Year Old Boys

Wasn't really sure what we were getting, but it seemed like something my tech-savy boys would like to put together with their Dad. It became a Father's Day project and all three of them really enjoyed building the Speaker Cube. They especially liked the part when the sound came out of the cardboard box. I was not involved in the assembly, but they said it was straight forward and easy to build. My husband did mention he wished they could put more of the components together on the sound board, but realized that might have been a challenge for the age group it's intended for. The boys got to decorate their speaker with the paper cutouts that were included and they thought that was cool. Not sure what we are going to do with it now that it's built, but it was a fun project for the boys to do with their Dad. It didn't take too long and no one got frustrated that it was too hard to complete. Overall, a great project!

I am in love with this product. My 9 year old son, whose current life goal is to be an inventor, was tickled to death to be able to put this together from scratch and to watch it work. It was a great learning experience for him. He wants to take it apart and put it back together several times a day. Bose does a great job of getting the lids interested with a little display as step 1.
All in all, a very well thought out product that will get your kid interested. 5 stars, hands down.

This speaker is great and has the Bose quality in sound. fun to put together and play around and learn from. my only gripe is that its limited for now with only apple products as far as the directions go.
my oldest who is 17 uses it all the time since we got it and loves it. it gets pretty loud for a small speaker and keeps its clarity, you must use it with a wall plug as it does not have a battery for it.
has many color options and you can even have different colors for hi, mids, and low hits if you choose to have it dance to music.
overall I would recommend this for all ages. even as an adult I enjoy the speaker, wife loves it as well. love that you can customize the color of it.

My kids truly enjoyed building their very own Bose speaker. The app for iOS was very informative, and took them step by step. They learned how sound works, how magnets work with creating sound, and different frequencies and wave forms. The part they liked the most was when they were able to customize it. They were able to select different colors that would light up when the speaker would play, as well as choosing which template to cover their speaker.

A Ton of Fun, and Interesting

This is an excellent summer project for children. It is recommended for 8 years and up, but we put it together with a 6 and 10 year old, and they both loved it. This educational "toy" lays some nice groundwork to get kids interested in electricity and other elements of engineering. We had a ton of fun putting it together, and are now looking for a new project.
The unit itself, once assembled, is very neat looking, in an industrial sort of way. IT also features LED lights that can be changed using the IOS app (more on that later). As expected with BOSE products, the sound is excellent, and the kids were so impressed with themselves after completing such a cool project with such impressive results.
The only down side to this project kit is that it is currently only supported by IOS (Apple) devices. It will work with iPads or iPhones, but there doesn't seem to be any Android support for changing the lights, but you can connect to the speaker with an Android device just for audio. Luckily, we just received an iPad from a friend, so we were good to go.
If you're looking for a fun, cool, educational project for your children this summer, look no further. IT is something they may use on a daily basis, and continue to be proud of their accomplishment. I predict this being shown off a lot to my daughter's friends especially.

If you want to give a gift that sparks your child's curiosity and gives them enjoyment, then the Bosebuild Speaker Cube is it.
I gave this to an 8 year old who wasted no time getting into it.
The instructions are on an app, which must be downloaded first. After that, each step is clearly shown and easy to follow.
You start learning about magnetism, electro-magnetism, and how sound waves are produced.
After that you begin construction of a paper speaker from cutouts that are provided. And, finally you construct the actual Bluetooth speaker.
You can customize the appearance of the speaker by choosing colored led lights that light with the beat of the music, and with cutout design patterns that are provided to attach to the sides of the speaker. It can also be taken apart and put back together again, as it is held together by clips.
This became a learning and fun experience for both the child and the adult supervising.
The final result is a high quality speaker that can be enjoyed for a long time. And, your child will have a sense of pride and a complete understanding of the inner workings every time they use it.
The only negative is that the app is only available on IOS.

1st of all it's a Bluetooth speaker...and as it does a fine job as a Bluetooth speaker. Adding to the fact that it's a really good speaker is that it's an educational toy/tool that just works for sound and for a learning experience! My daughters love it and learned a lot from putting it together...taking it apart...putting it together and spend 1/2 the time showing their friends how it "works".
