possibly the worst sounding speakers I've heard in my 60 years. Paid up max dollars due to the Bose name, but got nothing for the money. Bose customer service very laborious to work with - had no answers for me, told me to return speakers to Best Buy. Best Buy can't help me since past their 30 day policy. Said I had to call Bose back and get them to give me a return document. sigh.

I used the same kevlar monitors for over 15 years. They were bulky and took up a lot of space. I produce music and wanted to streamline my work space as I live in a smallish apartment. I went to Best Buy thinking I would purchase the Bose Companion 2s and sound tested them against the 20s. I was blown away by the quality of the 20s and decided right there in the store I had to have them. They sound so crisp, leave a really small footprint and the touch dial/puck is a fun extra touch. The low end in these is incredible, turned down at less than half volume I can hear the bass in the kitchen at the other end of the apartment. The highs are nice and crispy as well. 10/10 would recommend!

These speakers died after 1 week. Bose sent replacements, which only worked for 2 days. Bose said "Maybe it's the audio cord. Waiting for its arrival. Do not buy these speakers!!!

Great pair of small computer speakers that look as good they sound! You hear sounds you never heard before. Power saver (30minutes) is great for desktop users who make computer sleep most of day. The volume and mute on separate control where it can be located close to mouse. Now just hope it lasts...

    Bose companion 20s' + Logitech z623's

Bought a set of (Bose Companion 20's) at Best Buy when my old Altec Lansing ACS48s' right channel died (after nearly 20 years of total awesomeness). The Bose Companion 20 I had high hopes for, especially since they are $249, and have some positive reviews. They sounded decent in the store. The audio quality rivals the old Altec Lansing set, but is severely bass deficient (The Altecs had great bass and sound quality all around). I suppose one giveaway is the AC adapter, which outputs 18v, 2A. I looked at multiple reviews and Boses' website for the wattage spec, I never found it, but that's a maximum total of 36 watts. So these are about 16W per channel max. Bose makes amazing sound with only 16W per channel, but don't expect any bass. To be truly great, the sound needs to be complete, not missing any spectrums. I ended up returning them. I just installed some Logitech z623's. (I'm sure all the Bose diehards are groaning..). To achieve a balanced sound, don't turn the bass up too high. I put it just past the center of the dial, but I think centered is plenty. Sitting at the computer the bass sounds slightly lower volume than when I get up and walk away from the computer. These definitely fill the whole room with great sound! On sale for $129 also (so half the price). The win for me was these Logitechs.

We appreciate you contacting us through email for troubleshooting. If you are experiencing buzzing audio, one suggestion we'd make is connecting the audio cable from the system to another audio source to compare the results. That'll narrow down the troubleshooting to either the system or the computer's audio output. It may be more efficient to call when you have the system in front of you. You can reach us at 1-800-379-2073. We are open from Mon. – Fri., 9 AM – 9 PM EST. Bose

After reading some of the reviews I was a little skeptical. I installed the system quickly and without extra non included parts. Love the sound. I didnt think I would like the volume control with the audio input jack but that turned out to be a added bonus. If I get a call or someone comes in my office I can either shut off the sound or turn it down. Also, playing songs from my iphone is easy. Glad I bought it.

The price is a bit steep but I found it to be well worth it. The sound that comes from these little speakers is simply amazing. They are perfect for just laying in bed listening to music or watching a movie and powerful enough to be played at a house party as well. I am very pleased with my purchase just like every other Bose purchase I have made before this.

Very good quality sound for a two piece system

I wanted to improve the quality of my desktop sound but was somewhat reluctant to intall a subwoofer box in my home office. After reading impresive reviews for the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 I thought maybe I should stick to the sub anyway. So I went to Best Buy to listen to both systems and thought the Bose was better. When I installed it at home I got the feeling the sound was not as good as the one I listened at the store. 6 days after it came to my mind the idea of returning the Bose speakers but decided to go to the store again and listen to the Klipsch.. No way. The Bose is in my opinion much better. I also found that the Promedia has the off switch in the sub (very unconfortable). In summary, I will keep my Bose system as the sound is very clear. I do believe the price tag is too high and was dissapointed by the short sound cable. This is my reason for the 4 stars. I recommend the product to those who do not wish a subwoofer and can afford the price. The product does not dissapoint!

When i listen to symphonic music, every instrument is crystal clear. It's as if a live orchestra was in the speakers playing. I am very happy about these speakers. They may or may not be a little more bassy. Also, sounds pretty darn good for games. :)

Great desktop speakers with crisp & rich sound

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Overall, this a great product. If you're looking for great speakers to substitute the lousy and insufficient sound most desktops are built with then, look no further. The style of these speakers are very sleek and will compliment your desktop extremely well. Very spacing saving with tangle free wiring. The control pod is an excellent way to manage the volume and very convenient. However, there should have been some type of indication, allowing you to know exactly how high or low you're setting the volume. The sound is crisp from a mid to a semi-high level and will sooth even the most professional judging ear. The one thing these speakers do not provide is robust bass. I must make mention that these speakers are capable of extracting a very good level of bass from any song being played that is rich in bass. Also, keep in mind that this is a 2 piece system thus, the reason for not delivering a climatic bass sound to avid and engaged listeners. You will not regret purchasing these speakers but I do feel they should be priced at $199.99 instead of the $250 price tag.

I've had quite a few computer speaker sets in my time. When my Logitech THX speakers quit working a few weeks ago, I headed out to replace them. I was expecting to get the Klipsch THX 2.1 speakers but after listening to the Bose in store I realized that I don't really need volume....I want quality. If I need volume and bass nothing beats the Turtle Beach gaming headphones. So, I grabbed these and expected I might return them. After a few weeks, I can say that I'm incredibly happy with these speakers. Great sound quality and the perfect set for most people. Are they worth it? They are if you like the sound and have the money to make these a great add-on to your computer setup. If you are more budget oriented you can do nearly as well for less. Of particular note is how nice the mute and value control is...super smooth and high quality. A little thing that goes a long ways.

The Bose company has many detractors and many admirers. This is for those who are open minded and un-biased. After reading many reviews and hearing lots of speakers, I decided on these. I am so glad I did. I am an audiophile and musician with lots of different tastes in music and have a vast library of music and movies. How do they get that 5.1 effect from just 2 speakers? How can I be hearing sound from behind me while using 2 speakers. Low volume, high volume, accuracy is the word. No over emphasized bass, or treble. As close to the original performance as possible. Stereo imaging and soundstage is great. Hey, my mercedes has 8 Bose speakers. I figure if it sounds so good in my car, then it must sound good in my office. You pay for what you get. These are worth every penny. They are easy on the eyes and easy to use. Classy too. Let the rockers go for their super loud bass. These 20's leave you feeling refreshed, not possessed.

They sound great but limited connectivity options

These sound really nice and overall I'm satisfied with them but there are a few additions I'd like. 1 - Better connection options - a pair of 3.5mm inputs are about the most low end you can get, how about some digital options or even bluetooth? I'd pay a little more for better inputs. 2 - Some bass/treble controls - I know these have built in optimization but some manual options would be nice, thankfully I have them plugged into a DAC with EQ so I can tweak as needed. They sound better with some space behind them, away from the wall a bit or they can get boomy. It's great not having a sub taking up floor space, the bass is more than ample for my needs, I actually dialed it down a bit in my DAC's EQ.
