The sound from this system is great, but the bass is way too heavy!. There is only a control on the sub to decrease the bass on that, but the satellites are still tuned to a heavy bass. The only way to adjust it is if you are playing through a program which has it's own equalization settings. Windows does not have any.

It connects by USB. The soundfield is excellent. My only gripe is that it is heavy on the base, and there is no way to correct that. There is a base adjustment on the sub, but the satellites also are heavy on the base side. There is no way to add an equalization program to adjust this.

    • Brand response from Bose

      Hello there, Bonefixer!

Thank you for providing your review of the Companion 5 desktop speaker. Glad to hear you are enjoying the sound! We appreciate the feedback on the bass. If the bass still feels too high, we recommend that you locate and adjust the bass and treble settings on the connected device. You can also relocate the bass module away from the wall to decrease bass response.

If you need any further assistance, feel free to contact our Bose technical support team. Contact information is located on the Bose website under the Support page.

Thank you again for the review and your interest in our Bose products.

    Truly Beautiful Sound

I never write reviews, ever! Until now that is. This is my first one. After doing weeks of research, youtube videos and reading countless reviews by other customers I finally decided that after my final purchase of choice...I needed to share my feelings and hopefully help someone out in the same way I was looking to be helped out. The Bose Companion 5 is by far the best sounding speaker system for your computer in this particular price range. There are systems out there for $100, and some out there for thousands. In my opinion the Companion 5 sounds like a system that if you were walking by a Bose booth and heard the quality and asked, "How much does that cost?" and somebody replied with "$1,500" you would believe it, and understand it. Whether you could justify parting with that kind of money or not. I have it hooked up to my iMac and it is so incredible. The highs and mids are crisp and clear, and the lows are deep and rich. And believe me, though you couldn't use this system to run a concert...it is plenty loud for an apartment. Or any normal room for that matter. It is truly a remarkable system that I highly recommend to anybody that can spare the $400. Be prepared though, after tax and a possible extended warranty program its much closer to $500. That seems like a lot of money...and really is. But you won't be disappointed in the sound that Bose produces. Not to mention that the system looks great! Very minimal and sleek. A Great design. If you're reading this, then you're at least somewhat interested in this product...GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!

Not as what we expected. The sound did not sound as it should. Great brand. Found a cheaper brand that would put this system to shame.

If you are looking for a surround setup. This is NOT it. Although it sounds good enough it can never replace 5.1 speakers. I would recommend if just looking for a small space sound but not for 5.1 gaming.

    The real facts

After reading plenty of reviews and seeing unboxings on youtube, I finally purchased this product. This is what you need to know: it is very loud, and crisp clear; identical to 5.1 and quality sounding bass - yet... The bass is the only thing that isn't as deep and boomy as you'd expect. The subwoofer is actually more rectangular and longer from the subs i've experienced. Bose also states this is best of both worlds of gaming, music, and movies. I'm not a gamer, so after testing out CloverField, these speakers are very promising to what they deliver in surround sound. Music wise, I haven't found any faults yet. In my opinion, this works a lot better with movies, though because the bass and treble are balanced well so you hear the surround sound clearly. Compared to these (i felt was necessary), I had the Companion 20 previously, which had built in bass-- those speakers are more treble than bass, but are crisp clear. Before that it was Klipsh speakers, which had a subwoofer and two satellite speakers and what claimed to have movie theater quality sound. That speaker that was more bass/less treble from what I experienced, and before that, I had the Logitech Z623 speakers, and that was a larger subwoofer than the Klipsh and had way triple the bass. Overall I'm very satisfied with this Bose system. A little tip if you want more treble than bass -watching a movie on your computer- turn your computer down and the trackpad up..if you want more bass, turn the device up and the trackpad down. It is very costly but 100% worth it.

I was never able to use this speaker system. Speaker wire is too short for my application and bose does NOT make extensions for thejr proprietary 4 pin speaker connectors.

Honestly, 400 is a lot to spend on computer speakers! But Bose made my investment well worth it. These speakers are monsters and great from too to bottom. Let me say this, they are NOT PLASTIC. These things are made from aluminum or steel. They feel VERY NICE! The design aesthetic is exceptional but the sound magic is the winner element. Amazing how movies sound at my iMac with the action scenes and noise from all directions. I've owned these for almost 6 months couldn't give them a stronger recommendation.
