Great Speakers, without taking a lot of space.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to start off by saying Bose is Bose, and Bose quality is always good. Now with that being said, these speakers are exactly what I expected and some. For something of that size, they have great clear audio without having to pump up the volume. I use to have a 5.1 surround sound and these sound just as amazing. Worth the price.

The Interconnects Are Cheap
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I went shopping for computer speakers, I tested just about everything on the market. Hands down, the best sound was with the Companion 5's by Bose. I have enjoyed the sound quality for a few years now. However. When I noticed that I wasn't getting sound out of one of the speakers, I fiddled with the interconnects until I got it to work, but just any kind of movement will cause it to blank out. The Bose interconnects are left and right channel specific and I can't tell if the wiring problem is inside the woofer or the interconnects themselves. These are very expensive speakers. Bose charges more than they should for most of their products. The only way to repair these is to send them to Bose and pay a $75 repair fee. Hence, not a recommended product unless one buys an extended warranty.

Way overpriced for a mediocre sound system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm no audiophile but I expected a helluva lot more than what I got for 400.00+tx. I've had a set of Klipsh Promedia speakers (4 speakers 1 sub) for probably 8yrs. For the past 3 of those years 1 of the channels on the sub blew out and only 3 speakers remained functional. Now I don't know what I paid for the Klipsh speakers 8yrs ago but I can tell you this... Even with 3 speakers, they sound much better than this Bose setup (MUCH BETTER... Like the difference of listening to music over a transistor radio vs. BlueRay and I'm not kidding). The reason I figured I'd try the Bose even after reading the negative reviews on the forums is because my friend purchased one of those portable bluetooth speakers (Bose) and the sound was just amazing in a big open area. I figured that if that 1 little speaker sounded the way it did than I'd have to be really happy with Companion 5 setup. WRONG. It's an ok speaker system but that's it. If it was $200.00, I'd probably keep them but at $400.00 for mediocre sound, I'll return them. You may get them and love them but I'm going to guess that you had nothing to really compare them to. I miss my Klipsh.

A bit disappointed for Bose and the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was quick and easy...no worries "some assembly required"! Once I turned it on I expected (for $350) to be WOWed! Sound was great BUT not worth the price. Even after several weeks of owning I am second guessing my decision to purchase. Some cracking at higher volumes, too much "high" and not enough "mid". I had my eye on the Klipsch Companion for less than 1/2 the price...regrets? Yes. Perhaps the Bose 3 would have been a better deal. I have ALWAYS contended (and I have 25 years in mobile sound business) that Bose is over-priced. If these speakers were under $200 the rating for price would be higher. Sorry Bose...lower your prices!!!

Tops Here
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd definately recommend these speakers to a friend. Have had them for 3 weeks or so and they are great. Were just plug and play for my computer. When people hear the sound coming from my computer they can't believe they are coming from 2 tiny speakers and a hidden sub-woofer.

Super disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to have the Bose Companion 3, and I expected these to be as good as (or better than) the Companion 3, which I DID like a lot. Here are the pros: easy setup, solid build (doesn't look or feel cheap). I LIVE on my computer, and I listen to music 24/7, so I was willing to spend more to have the clarity & hi-def features I expect in this price range. Regarding setup... yes, it is very easy...HOWEVER...once set up, you are unable to tweak the audio output/sound at ALL. There is NO COMPATIBILITY with pc or audio outside of Bose default settings. (in other words, you can't alter pitch, environment, equalization, NADA) I was eager to blast the new Bose, & I found out immediately that the louder the speakers (which weren't notably loud, IMO...not bad volume output per se, but not exceptional at all) the more "empty" and/or tinny the music sounded. Yes, there is a subwoofer, and I did test that at full capacity to see if that would offset the OVER treble sounding desk speakers, but...not at all. I have awesome OTE headphones, so I plugged those into the control pad (since the speakers are not bluetooth compatible, the control pod is handy...so I guess that should be listed as a pro?) and the music sounded MUCH better. I just couldn't justify keeping these speakers to ONLY be able to use them with headphones on at all times. I am back to my old Harmon Kardon's...and I must say that after having the Companion 5 for a week or two, I have a new appreciation for what I was looking to upgrade.

Poor ..For the priice I expected much more.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my speakers from best buy last february. They ran well for about 3 months. The bass was great , the middle range not so great, and the upper range great. They are definitely not worth 400 dollars. After 3 months the power went out and I could no longer use them. I had all kinds of problems reach customer service , and to this day they are still in a box in the basement. I would definitely not purchase a bose product again. The inflated price is definitely not work it.

bad experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't read any review before buying this speaker. I bought it after listened the demo at Bose store and Bestbuy store. When I first plugged it in, and tried itune to hear some music, I loved it. Quality sound was so good. Deep and nice. Perfect. I turned on the video, and I felt bad right away. It added noise and static sound in addition to the movie sound. (I try both Transformer and Tokyo Drift). I tried again with the Bose home theater system(used with DVD player) and no sound like that exist. I unplugged the speaker, restarted comp. and tried with built-in speaker and no noise or static exist in the movie sound. I tried some games with this speaker and the only game that this Bose speaker didn't give noise or static beside the original sound was COD 4-modern warfare. One last problem was consistent usage of the speaker. After I tried two DVDs, closed Win Media player (with Vista). Turned on Win Media for another CD and this speaker went dead. No sound, no feed back, nothing. I unplugged USB cable and the only way to get built-in speaker work was restart comp. I hope that it is only due to a single manufacture-defected unit that I so unlucky to get but not happen to any other Bose component 5. Still thinking about get a replacement to see if thing will be better.

You would think: Boss how could I go wrong;HOW???
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanna save as many as I can from this product. Boss is a great company; I heard. This was my first Boss item ever; loved it and hated it so much I had to return it. The sound was awesome; when it played; the look was killer! On our first date she cut herself off while Maxwell was playing live unpluged (This womans work) I love the song but Boss said "Not tonight maybe some other time." She has problems and if you listen closely you want miss them when you read the good reviews. Misery loves company when the 1year warranty runs out; you will have a pretty system without sound;what good is that??? I recommend you return this product before walking out the door of bestbuy with a badbuy!!! Go Klipsch you want lose a beat; you'll save 65% of your money. Klipsch rocks with my creative sound card 10 stars!!!!!!!!!! Without the sound card bestbuy five stars!!!!! Klipsch 2.1 pro rocks for $[149.99] you could now afford to throw some for the creative sound card [$59.99] a bestbuy it's still less than half of the Boss companion5 and 25% less the companion3 with card; far less without!!!!!!!!! KLIPSCH WARRANTY IS 5YEARS; UNBELIEV.......ABLE!!!

Gamers Beware!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a C5 not C3 (Where originally posted review) but ISSUES are most likely identical. This system was great for everyday computing and listening to music (at first), but for gamers it has some serious drawbacks. First, there is no microphone input for online play on the Bose desktop control pod (but you can connect your I-Pod), can do that on the front panel of my PC as well as charge it at the same time. I have to run a seperate cord from the headphones (mic) jack to the PC mic input and the headphone jack to the Bose desktop control pod (Wires everywhere). If you use a key-pad even more wires. Another drawback is the loss of audio during gameplay. I have a modern system with LOTS of ram but still loose audio during serious gameplay (REALLY, REALLY anoying). Had the system for about 2 years now and it is starting to crackle and pop EVEN WHEN TURNED OFF (also anoying). I checked Bose site for any kind of software updates or support but found none. I am going to loose this expensive USB system (at my loss) and get a much more reliable and user friendly standard mini jack set up. I will look at the Corsair system reviews.

so very disappointed in the sound quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i really wanted to love these. i really wanted us to work out. it's not me, it's them. there is really no discernible midrange to these speakers. the high end is thin, tinny and sharp (not bright and crisp) and the bass was muddy and overall the sound lacked punch. the sound was also spatially too wide. i like my sound tight, crispy and punchy. i bought these to replace the Cambridge SoundWorks Microworks II that i had for more than 10 years. they kicked the bucket and i wanted to replace them with something that sounded as awesome, but looked better on my desk. i chose the Bose based on my own experience with their headphones and the numerous 5-star reviews both here and on Amazon. i also like the way they look. i'm thinking i'll suffer the ugliness and get another set of the Microworks. after all, it's the sound that matters most.
