Many also appreciate its convenient size and the seamless integration with both Alexa and Google Assistant. A lot of technical glitches. Alexa built in is terrible compared to Echo. Sound up/down through Bose app is glitchy sometimes will just randomly turn all the way up or down. Speaker sound quality is great but compatibility needs work.

Hi Chase, I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing some issues with Alexa. I'll be happy to help you! I would recommend removing Alexa from your application by heading to Settings> Voice Assistance> Alexa and remove. Once complete, try setting it up again and retesting. Bought this on Oct 4 and 54 days after now its useless. After doing some internet search, issue seemed to be caused by its firmware failing to update causing the device to lock doing its endless update cycle rendering the device unusable. Music and performance was top notch during its good days, for its built and intended use. So future buyers beware. Wished I bought something else.... Dissappointing that Bose's quality has downhill since 5 years ago and still going down further.

Let's talk about SOUND quality: It's a mono speaker only, but you wouldn't even notice that, it's one of the best small mono speakers I have ever heard. Since I listen to my music at a high level the speaker is clean and stays very balance at a high level. The best part of this small powerful speaker is the 360° design. It fills the whole room with its crystal clear sound an powerful bass and I mean bass. The other thing I particularly like is it will stream off of my Amazon Music or the huge collection of my Google Play music APP. SETUP: The Bose Speaker 300 does not come with instructions. For many that areee a huge issue. They are available online. I think many companies have done away with the added paper in a box. The best way to set up the 300 is to download the Bose Music App. It takes you to step by step in the setup. It also gives you the opportunity to tweak your speaker to your desired sound. The other quality it has is it also supports Google Assistant or Alexa. Since I have Google Assistant set up was easy. I like this feature because I can use my voice (which this speaker has an an an unbelievable voice pic up) to change the tracks or my granddaughter who has DS can change it also. (She is sometimes the boss of our music we listen to). Since we have sometimes zero WIFI due to various issues with weather or due to living in a rural area its a hit or miss to get online, this brings me to the blue tooth it also supports. I am never without my music so set up with my phone and the blue tooth was fast and easy. This speaker is not per day a "portable" speaker, It must be plugged in at all times. It would be nice to have a small battery pack with it that would make it portable, but to me, the bad part with that is you would have to make sure it's charged at all times. One main advantage for me is while my granddaughter is in the hospital which is a lot, this speaker is small enough to pack in a suit case and small enough to lay on her hospital bed to soothe her and keep her focused. Honestly, this is the best speaker that I have gotten from Bose. The sound quality is amazing it being only 2lbs is a small speaker that I can use from room to room or outside. Leave it in one spot and this speaker give you the feeling that its a larger speaker or multiple ones. If your looking for a speaker with crystal clear sounds and massive bass, this speaker is for you!

    High Quality Bose Smart Speaker

I’ve been a fan of Bose products for many years. As a poor college student I opted for a pair of Bose speakers which were certainly out of my price range at the time but which ultimately served me well over many years. I own them still some 30 years later. Bose is an investment in quality so I was very pleased recently to see that Bose had entered the smart speaker market with the Home Speaker 300. Google and Amazon devices are underwhelming acoustically so I was curious to see how a Bose smart speaker would perform. If I’m paying a bit extra for a quality product then I want to see evidence of that in the packaging. Here Bose does not disappoint. You get a sense that something special is within as you unbox. Inside one finds the Bose Home Speaker 300 wrapped in a cloth like protective bag, a power adapter, and some basic documentation. Here you are prompted to download the Bose Music app to continue setup. I already had this app since I own a Bose Soundbar so I simply opened it and selected add device. A search proceeded for the new device and the app quickly discovered the Bose 300. I was next prompted to add the speaker to my WiFi network. You can then select which room you’ll be using the Bose 300. This of course can be changed later. You’re also asked if you would like to share the device with family and friends. Very cool since here they can then connect to your device with their accounts to play their own music content. This would be great for house guests. Next one selects which voice assistant you would like to use with the Bose 300 Home Speaker either Google assistant or Amazon Alexa. I opted for Amazon Alexa. Next you link the Bose 300 to your Amazon account by signing in at Amazon and you are up and running. This setup was a breeze which anyone could do in a matter of minutes. You can now use Alexa like you would on any Amazon device. As an Amazon Music subscriber I now had access to their vast library through the Bose Music app. I have to say this app is exceptional. I love how I can of course use Alexa via voice commands to play music. The Bose 300 has 6 microphones which hear you very clearly wherever you are in a room. Manually searching for music within the app is fantastic. Here you can play top songs, top albums, playlists, Prime stations, top charts, or your own music. I love all the available flexibility. I particularly love that you can also save your favorite listening selections as presets within the app for easy future listening access. Within the app you can also opt to use TuneIn to listen to your favorite streaming radio station content. Nice! Here you can also select additional Bose 300 connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Apple AirPlay 2, or even a physical line in auxiliary connection. All these options are a huge plus. After playing with this top notch app it was time to see how the Bose 300 Home Speaker sounded while playing this multitude of content across these various connection options. I explored various favorite music selections across many musical genres and was not disappointed in the least. In fact I was truly surprised that a relatively small device at only 6 x 5 x 4 inches and which weighs in at only 2 pounds could produce such a high quality 360 degree room filling sound experience. The Bose 300 could easily serve well as a sole music entertainment device in a household. Sound is rich and immersive with deep bass. I would have expected no less from Bose. I would also point out another fantastic feature where you can link other compatible Bose devices throughout your house to play the same content thereby creating a whole home entertainment system. The Bose Home Speaker 300 with Google or Amazon virtual assistant provides all the usual smart speaker features while clearly acoustically outshining other such devices. The Bose Music app simply makes this great device even better.

Mono sound, NOT stereo, and weak bass even for me (I listen to rock, not into rap, so my expectations were not excessive)! To make things worse, there is no wired audio out on this item, so I couldn’t connect it to my non-Bluetooth old school Bose system. So, just spend the extra money and buy the 500 version for a significantly better sound, but know that it doesn’t have wired audio out either. The Bose app is actually pretty good, though.

      Hi MikeG.

The Bose Home Speaker 300 brings room-rocking bass and 360° lifelike sound to a space-saving size. You can adjust the bass and treble using the Bose Music app to your liking.
Using a 3.5 mm audio cable, you can connect your audio device to the aux port at the back of the speaker.

The Bose Home Speaker 300 is an awesome tabletop audio device for even mid-size rooms. With Bose's traditionally rich and clear sound in-tact for this model, you can't go wrong if you're looking for a good, Bluetooth-ready streaming speaker for sending phone or device audio in to fill a room. That being said, the Home 300 offers some other unique functionality: This speaker includes Alexa and Google Assistant functionality! As a Google Assistant household, I was excited to potentially replace my Living Room speaker (a Google Home Max which had recently been damaged) with this unit. One of my key use cases with Google Assistant is the ability to control a Chromecast-connected TV with it, but also make music requests to the speaker throughout the day to play directly. My Google Home devices throughout the house are able to do this with my Google Play Music/YouTube Music subscription... Makes sense since the Google products should work with their music service, right? My disappointment begins in that many of the long-form Google Assistant commands are not yet available on this device - Bose claims that long-form support is coming in a future firmware release, but what was even more disappointing was that the Google Play/YouTube Music services are completely unavailable on this device? How can you have Google Assistant without being able to call these services? The speaker does support Pandora and a few other niche music services, but for Google Assistant to NOT support its own music services on ANY device is a non-starter for me. If you use one of it's supported services, it works well - I happen to have a free Pandora account which I tested with. Quick song results and excellent room-filling audio as I expected from the device. Bluetooth streaming also worked flawlessly and had good range. All in all - If you're looking for a speaker for phone/device streaming first, and the assistant is an afterthought, this might work well for you - If you're looking for a standalone music machine that you and your family can command to play anything in your library/subscription, you might be better off with Google's native offerings.

      Hi GadgetGuy1981,
Thank you very much for taking the time to review your Home Speaker 300. It's great to hear that you are enjoying the sound quality and versatility of your speaker.
Regarding the long form command, it might be worth noting that Google Assistant Long Form Audio on the Bose Smart Speakers is a recent feature addition by way of a firmware update so please do try again to see if it is working. As for Google Play/YouTube Music, we appreciate your feedback and we understand your frustration. We continue to work on adding more and more features, functionality and services including those with Google Assistant so please check regularly for updates.
      All the best!

Good sound from an Alexa speaker

We replaced our Amazon Echo with this device and all in all, I'm pretty happy with it. It only has one real downside compared to the official Echo which is that it doesn't support Apple Music right now. This was something that the Echo didn't support when I first got it so I'm hoping eventually, this Bose speaker will be able to patch in support. Setup is pretty simple. it doesn't make you do the whole "go to your wifi settings and find the Bose device" thing that so many devices do now-a-days. You download the app and login (sadly, you need an account) and it just finds your speaker in a few seconds. Then it'll update the firmware for you and finish the setup. Quick and painless and the app does a pretty good job of guiding you as it figures out how you want to set things up (allowing Alexa and/or Google access, etc). The sound is pretty much what you'd expect from Bose and such a small speaker. This speaker is a bit stockier than the Echo but it sounds a lot better. Does it sound like a home theatre in your kitchen? Not really. But it does sound really nice and it can get pretty loud if you want it to. Bose is usually great at packing a nice sound into a small package and they deliver here. The features of this speaker are pretty standard but everything works great. Alexa works almost exactly like my Echo. As stated earlier, the only feature missing is the ability to directly play Apple Music but it works with Spotify and also has AirPlay support so if I really want to play something from Apple Music, I can just AirPlay it from my phone really easily. I hope that they patch in Apple Music support for Alexa in the future, though, as it's much nicer to just ask to hear some music instead of pull it up on my phone to AirPlay it. The preset buttons on top are pretty nice as well. You can specify specific stations and playlists you want to start when you activate one of the preset buttons which gives you really easy access to some of the music you play a lot of. If I have to nitpick a little bit, one thing I really miss from my Echo is the light ring around the top. This device has a light in the front. It's a couple of inches wide so it lights up and can kind of show you a general direction where it was activated from but that's only if you're looking right at the front of the speaker. For a speaker that's supposed to be 360 degrees, there are just way too many positions you can be in and not see the light at all. If you're used to waiting for the ring on an official Amazon Alexa device before continuing with your command, you'll have to start trusting that Alexa heard the activation word instead of pausing to see if the light turns on. So aside from a couple of short comings, this is a pretty good speaker. It sounds great for something you're probably going to put in your kitchen and does almost everything an official Alexa device can do. It also supports Google Assistant which I don't use, but it's there! If this is in your budget and you want a good sounding speaker some cooking music, this is a good buy.

The Little BIG Bose that can

Build This is basically a Bose Home speaker 500 with smaller speakers and no screen and no remote. It comes well packed in the same box the 500 does. Everything else is almost identical. I love the smooth satin black finish and squeezed round design that fits into my modern décor at home. It looks very elegant and Bose-like design language. With touch controls and lacking waterproofing, it looks like a bloated Soundlink Color II speaker with double the power, soundstage, and quality. Sound Audio is crystal clear and you can hear everything from deep bass to your highs with some roll off. The typical Bose sound profile where the lows overpower the highs is still here. The soundstage sounds HUGE for this little unit and it is POWERFUL. The bass, mids, and highs are very clear until you get to about 80% volume where things start muddling together and getting distorted. The 360 degree sound fills the room and if you have it up near a wall it sounds larger. I setup my sound using the EQ where I settled on BASS 40 TREBLE 80 to balance it to my liking. You can control quite a bit from the app like what you want to listen to, selecting/set a preset, and much more. I love the size and soundstage of this little thing. Did I say that already?! Setup and Ease of Use Setup is easy and quick. Linking all your accounts and services is easy and this works perfectly with either Google or Amazon digital assistants. I like how the buttons are laid out and everything is touch. I do struggle trying to find all the buttons. There is no way to feel where you are and you most likely you'll be using mostly voice commands after you reach peak frustration. Recommendations +NFC to setup would be amazing. +Button backlighting to aid finding functions in the dark or lowlight. +Some sort of splashproof rating would be great. This would be perfect for a kitchen if they did some minimal waterproofing. The Verdict If you're a Bose lover or not in audiophile this is more than enough for you. It is HUGE sound from a little package that integrates Google and Alexa. If you are looking at high-end smart speakers you want to look here first.
