    Alexa built into a soundbar

The Bose Smart Soundbar 300 from Bose into the television soundbar category. The great thing is, this soundbar is versatile and usable on so many different levels. Let's talk about the obvious things first. This product is from Bose, and as many consumers have come to expect, the audio quality is great! This soundbar puts emphasis on voices in the audio through its center channel speaker. Audio is clear and crisp and the bass put out from this soundbar is great as well! Even at lower volume levels I feel like it has adequate bass which is a nice touch. Being that this soundbar doesn't immediately come with a wireless sub woofer like some other brands, I think it holds up pretty well to the competition. Built into the speaker is the Alexa voice assistant! It works like most every other Alexa speaker I have used. Once I downloaded the "Bose Music" app on my android phone, I was able to pair my phone with the soundbar and access all the features it had to offer. Linking it to my Amazon account was fairly simple, although it did take the Bose Music app a few tries to "find the soundbar." After finding the soundbar, it needed an update, which was delivered to the soundbar via the android app. Once that was done, all was well! I connected the soundbar to my television via an included optical audio cable. You can also connect via HDMI with ARC as well. This soundbar also boasts a feature called "Voice4Video" which allows you to control other items like your TV and cable box by speaking to the voice assistant. I was not fully able to test this feature because we stream our television services and we do not use satellite/cable TV boxes, however the Bose app walks you through it one step at a time. One other cool feature about this soundbar is the ability to connect and pair it with other Bose speakers to make your own custom surround sound. I could not test this feature because I do not currently own any other Bose speakers, but it is advertised that you can create your own system, but at a roughly $400 price tag, that will probably be steep for most consumers. If you already have other speakers, such as certain soundlink speakers, then you can pair them up and run them at one time. I did use Bluetooth to play music over the soundbar from my phone. Once again, pairing had to be done through the Bose Music app. All in all, this is a great soundbar with room filling audio and nice smart features to make controlling your television and other smart devices extremely easy! You won't go wrong purchasing this soundbar!

Out of the box this soundbar is fantastic. Despite not coming with a subwoofer, the bass is still really good. It was a little difficult to setup (I couldn’t get it to connect to the Bose Music app) but that may have been my phone. It connected easily via Bluetooth and via Digital Optical. If you’re looking for a one piece soundbar setup, this Bose system is a definitely a contender.

    Great Sound

The soundbar is easy to connect to my TV and really improves the overall TV watching experience. There is a much fuller bass sound, and you can adjust the bass, treble, and center speakers in the Bose music app. The Dialogue Mode is a game changer. I have slight hearing loss, so I frequently rely on closed captions to make sure I dont miss anything. The Dialogue Mode makes the speech much clearer. In most cases I'm able to do without the captions. Connection to Google Assistant was easy, and this functions the same as my Google Mini. It's also compatible with several music streaming services so you can use this as a music speaker as well. The only minor complaint I have is audio syncing with the TV speakers. I was never able to get to sync perfectly. The TV speakers gave the overall sound an echo effect, but it can be solved by just muting the TV and using the soundbar as your sole source of sound.

This compact bar really packs a punch. Great at boosting vocals and filling the room with sound. Huge improvement over built-in speakers. I like the link feature that allows me to stream the audio from the soundbar to my QC35 IIs when I don't want to disturb others.

    Excellent - One Flaw

    Posted .

The Bose Smart Soundbar 300 is an excellent sound bar- with one critical flaw. I have this hooked to a 65" Sony TV via HDMI Arc. The sound quality is excellent! Dialogue is clear, and the speaker does an excellent job of creating a wide soundstage (HINT: this soundbar has speakers angled at each side, so make sure not to block the sides of the sound bar). It also makes an outstanding "Alexa" speaker, and that function is easy to set up. I initially paired this with the Bose Bass Module 500 but ended up returning the bass module because I felt like it overpowered the speaker. To my ears, the sound bar is perfectly smooth and balanced by itself. Here is the critical flaw - there is no support for DTS audio codecs. What does that mean? Well, most digital audio signals are "encoded" in one of two formats - Dolby Digital or DTS (there are many "versions" of these two - Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby 7.1, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD, DTS X, etc.) - but those are the two main codecs. This soundbar can "decode" the Dolby formats (it appears to downmix them all to Dolby Digital 5.1) - but NONE of the DTS formats. If you send a DTS-encoded signal to this soundbar, you will get nothing - just SILENCE. The only solution I have found is to change the output on your source (Blu Ray player, TV, etc.) to 2 channel stereo (sometimes called PCM). Why is that a problem? Well, many Blu-Rays use DTS! Fortunately for me, I mostly use the soundbar for streaming (right now - most streaming services use some variant of Dolby). I have a small library of DVDs - and *most* DVDs also use Dolby. BUT - if you plan to use this soundbar to enjoy your library of Blu Rays - you probably need to look elsewhere.

Very impressed with the sound this soundbar packs. Sleek design and quick and easy setup. It's great with the Alexa built in so you can stream music without the TV having to be on. Bose never disappoints.

I own 7 Bose products. Read my review

I have purchased the Bose 500 (two of them) and 900 sound bars, 500 & 700 subwoofers and 500 & 700 surrounds. The sound quality is superb. Exquisite even. Now the downsides. These don’t play well with TVs. I couldn’t get the TV remotes to turn the volume up on the Bose soundbar. With EARC you can have devices communicate things like volume and on/off signals to all devices. Bose is EARC “compatible” Not at all. I purchased 3 different brand high quality TVs just to get these sound bars to work. Really. I literally went through three brand new TVs so I could keep the Bose products. I connected directly to the TVs with a few different quality HDMI cables. I even had geek squad out and they were baffled. I use an Apple TV and I couldn’t get that remote to work with the Bose stuff either. I had to use the infrared on my Apple Remote to finally get the soundbar to work. Ya like 60 year old technology. So because the soundbar is under the TV and on a high TV entertainment unit I have to have direct line of sight between the remote and soundbar. This means my arm must go way up in the air to change the volume every time. It’s even more fun laying on the couch. The TV and Apple Remote are set up for Bluetooth. Beautiful. No more aiming at the tv. Till Bose. It sucks. Same thing for my Bose 500 in the bedroom on a smaller tv. HDMI won’t even work with the sound bar for sound. I have to use another old technology. Optical cable. It works but just barely. Oh yes and on both systems the updates are horrible. They get stuck all the time updating. Days stuck on the update. Meanwhile I can’t use any app features like dialogue mode. Then I have to play a game to get them unstuck. This usually results in having to reconnect the subwoofer and surrounds which is a huge pain. Oh and sometime it deletes the IQ feature which takes a bunch of time to set up too. I can spend an hour resetting things up because of updates. One last thing about their proprietary products. These can not be used with any other products. I went to use my 500 subwoofer in my office for my computer and it doesn’t use a normal input. So I put it back in the bedroom. It made me realize that someday when the soundbar dies I will be unable to make use of the sub and surround speakers. To have a soundbar go out and have the rest of the working speakers be unable to work is a waste of money. Buy Sonos instead. I’m going to switch to them on my next purchase. The sound quality of Bose isn’t worth the nightmare.

    Solid Choice

Picked this up after being underwhelmed with the LG SP7Y. Cost more than the SP7Y (which was on sale), but well worth it. The 300 is compact, but sounds way bigger than the SP7Y. There were several steps to set up the 300, but once that was done, it has been working great. TV. streamed content, and music sounds outstanding. It could use a sub for a little more bass punch, but found the built in sub packs almost as much bass punch as the SP7Y. Wifi connectivity is very nice. I don't care about the voice assistant, but if you like that, this has several of those built in. This sound bar is perfect for 90% of applications and rooms. Unless you are a hardcore audiophile or have a bigger budget, this is a solid choice.

I’ve using this masterpiece for more than 2 months. This is my 3rd product from the makers of ‘BOSE’. I’ve QC 35 & SoundTouch 20 prior to this. I was in 2 minds when planned to buy a sound bar, whether to go with Dolby DTS or Dolby Atmos. But due to the limited budget I’ve, I stick to Dolby DTS and buy this. After using the product for some time now, I’ve no regrets for not having Dolby Atmos. With wi-fi in-built at this price is very good options to use Airplay and it works well. It looks sleek & great with no physical buttons. It sounds in detail & voice clarity is amazing when watching movies. The dialogue mode that enhances speech is useful, when you listen to old, classical & devotional songs.

Amazing sound bar! It isn’t too impressive alone but paired with the Module 500 subwoofer and it becomes a powerhouse. Sound quality exceeds what you expect for a Bose. Will be getting a 2nd set.
