Fourth pair of small Bose headphones. Not a stranger to the brand and or product. Very disappointed in that there is flat out no base. Very shrill and harsh sound. I use it both for my iOS devices and Mac Laptop and across four devices I get poor sound. Very disappointed.

Runner's worst nightmare, stick to Bose MIE2i

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If you have the older MIE2i DO NOT SWITCH TO THIS NEWER MODEL. This is coming from an amateur runner who had the older model, exchanged it, and now regrets it since the older model was discontinued.. Bose recently redesigned their ear tips for a "SoundTrue Ultra" experience. There is no active noise cancellation, but the new earbuds attempt to replicate this effect by diminishing other noises. Pros: 1. As a commuter in NY, these are great for blocking small noises such as the sound of other people walking or talking either on the train or as you walk in the street. It creates a slightly more immersive experience and the sound is very clear. 2. The eartips fit snugly inside your ears. They rarely fall out even when exercising. 3. Cord is longer 48 inches vs I believe 45 inches for Bose MIE2i. Cons 1. Maximum volume level with these headphones is lower than older models such as the Bose MIE2i. I definitely experienced this more when I plugged them into a Nintendo 3DS. When plugging them into my iPhone, it was a little less apparent but definitely noticeable if you're the type who likes to crank up the volume. 2. The earbuds create a stethoscope effect that is horrible. Bose you attempted to create a more immersive experience by changing your earbud design. I was a loyal customer of your Bose MIE2i product for 3 years and bought more than one model. I'm now thinking of switching to Jaybird X2s because these are quite frankly horrible for anyone who is a runner or exercises intensely. If you use these at the gym and others are lifting and dropping weights, the vibrations felt across the gym are amplified through these headphones. Due to the eartip design, the vibrations go straight into our ear canals and can be a nuisance. 3. In regards to the stethoscope which was mentioned in my second Con, it is horrible to run with these headphones and actually dropped my performance. Every time the cord of these headphones hits your body as you run, it is immediately picked up by your ears. It might not be as bad for someone who is simply walking or jogging slowly, but as your speed picks up, it becomes worse and worse. The music no longer drowns the annoying effect felt by the cord hitting your body, and instead it causes you to focus on the vibrations being felt in your ears. It's actually painful after a while. Bottom line: I long debated between leaving Bose and picking up the Jaybird X2 due to the great reviews by trusted sources in the tech and fitness communities. I was a loyal Bose customer up until now. These headphones made me lose my confidence in Bose’s products. The Jaybird X2 may not have a microphone for calls, but at this point, it’s negligible due to the horrible experience I had with these headphones. IF YOU ARE A RUNNER OR SOMEONE WHO IS ACTIVE AT THE GYM, READ THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS. You'll see why these headphones are not meant for you.

      Hello Gameruser,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about your experience with the new SoundTrue Ultra headphones. We are sorry to have disappointed you. Given the way you describe usage we think the SoundSport IEv2 will likely be a better choice as it has been optimized for use when running or exercising. We think you'll enjoy them along with the original Stay Hear tip design. Bose

From a Brand I trust. I can not recommend this item. I own QC15, 2 Pair of Soundsport (I was replacing a pair of these with this product). The sound is for lack of a better word “Tin-y”. Spend the $20 extra dollars and get the Soundsport. Much better sound.

I had initially purchased the Powerbeats earbuds for the wireless feature however after trying two of them and being truly disappointed with the quality of the sound, I went online and researched these. I purchased them shortly after and have been nothing but pleased. The sound quality is much better than the Powerbeats 2, particularly the bass which was actually surprising. The carrying case is well made and looks good as well. Sorry that they aren't wireless but the sound is great and typical of Bose.

I recently went on a hunt for some good quality earbuds. Tried everything from Sony to Beats. Unfortunately every single one catered to the "all bass" crowd and sounded absolutely terrible. Finally I decided to try these after seeing some reviews and I was blown away by the clarity. Every frequency comes through perfectly and the sound is well balanced. They pretty much match my Audio Technica studio monitors. If you're looking for well-balanced sound then look no further. The comfort is stellar as well.

These are horrible, I have a pair of ear buds that cost $1.99 that sound much clearer, louder, and just way better, Do not buy the Bose ear buds, I've read reviews with all the same complaints.

You get what you pay for! I ordered this to go with my curved TV. it came scratched and with the wrong pieces that required modification. Had it not been so heavy and cumbersome to return it i would have. At least it came with a scratch filler marker.

Great earbuds, but a little pricey.

I was looking for a nice quality pair of earbuds that I could listen to in between classes and in the gym, and these do just that. They stay in my ears very well and never fall out, due to the stay ear tips. They sound incredible, and deliver some pretty good bass. However they're not fully noise cancelling, but they sit in your ear rather than on the outside, so they do provide a little noise cancellation. The overall build quality I think is pretty poor. The cable is very thin and gets tangled up quite easily. Since the cable is so thin, I question the longevity of these earbuds, also I fear that they might freeze up and fall out of my ears in the winter. The case they come with is a rectangular soft shell. I personally think it should be circular, because that's how most cables are wound up versus cramming them into the rectangular case. So the question is, do I recommend these earbuds? The answer is no. These are a great sounding pair of earbuds, don't get me wrong, but for $160 after tax, you could be getting something like the Power Beats Wireless which are Bluetooth and have a tangle free flat cord. Unless you are a Beats hater and just want Bose, I would wait a while until the price drops down to about $120.
