Alcohol based and with a pre-rinse works very well

I shave and pre-clean in the shower and after shaking out excess water from the head, put it in the cleaning station. The results are "as new" for the next shave.

Nice cleaning supplies

And I love the self cleaning feature. Price is pretty decent too, it is not like "Hey get this cheap printer but we will get your money on toners" type of deal. Overall I am satisfied that my Braun is clean and ready for shaving every day.

Each unit lasts about a month or a little more and keeps the razor feeling like new. I've kept refilling mine for the last two years and my razor feels the same as it did when I first got it.
