Bought this razor on sale to replace my conventional one - I have sensitive skin and was tired of ripping up my face every couple of days. This provides a close shave and hasn't caused any irritation.

just purchased this Braun electric shaver. its on sale at bestbuy this week. ive used it twice so far..i am so impressed i told my friend to purchase on for her father. ive been using name brand disposbles forever. about this series 3 Braun, i let it fully charge then dry shaved after. the shaver grips well in hand, has a powerful motor, holds its charge, and it really gave me a close shave. no nicks around the neckline. perfectly close shave. comparable to a straight razor shave..seriously, im impressed. good purchase...

    Braun 3040s shaver

IMO, the Braun 3040s is overall a 5 star product. —5 stars because it is effective at maintaining the APPEARANCE of a clean shave, quickly, with no nicks or cuts. 5 stars because it can do this at roughly $18/yr maintenance cost (*per my math & manufacturers maintenance schedule), not including the minimal initial $50 cost of the shaver. —Note that, in my experience, this Braun 3040s does not shave as close/quickly as Braun series 9 shaver (*double the maintenance cost), which does not shave as close as the ultra close shaving Panasonic Arc5 (*quadruple the maintenance cost). —Also, note that it is my opinion that WOMEN do not like beard stubble rubbing against their skin. They prefer either a full beard or ultra close shave with no detectable beard stubble. In my experience, this Braun 3040s leaves detectable beard stubble. The Braun series 9 leaves less detectable stubble, but still detectable. IMO/experience, the Panasonic Arc5 leaves virtually no detectable stubble (Lectric Shave or XXX per instructions, then keeping wet with water). —So, in conclusion, I think this Braun 3040s electric shaver is an excellent choice for maintaining the APPEARANCE of a clean shave, quickly, with minimal cost. However, I’d suggest keeping a Panasonic Arc5 on hand for those times when you want a stubble free shave. That’s my opinion/experience. YMMV.

Not So Good For Fine Hair

I picked up one of these for use when traveling, so I was mostly looking for "good enough" and "cheap" which this razor satisfies, and the NiMH batteries are an added bonus given it will not be used regularly. However, I have very fine hair, which includes my facial hair, and this razor just cannot handle that. Especially along my neck, where every electric razor I've ever used has struggled, this one is the worst of the bunch. Still, it does serve its primary purpose which is to keep my facial hair from getting too long while traveling. Final analysis: For a $60 razor, it is good enough.

    Not that great

My trusty Norelco broke after about a decade and I always thought about getting a Braun as now I would step into the big leagues. Unfortunately this is a lower end model and does not live up to the Braun legacy. It does an ok job of shaving but I still need the blade to finish off. Plus you have to go over the area multiple times before seeing any results. If I shave daily, it can keep up. If I skip a day, shaving is a task with this things. I should have tried a better model.

Always used a stick shaver. Bought this one for the sale price but it didn't cut at all. Took over 20 passes just to trim some hair on my cheek. Exchanged it for a better shaver the next day.
