I paid more for this item in hopes to get an evenly browned piece of toast. It is not consistent with its browning. It does have a nice feature you don't see on other toasters. It lets you raise the lever and check your toast and once you lower lever back down it has memory and picks up where it left off.

1. Uneven toasting. One side of the bread toasts more than the other. Yes, they have a bagel mode that does that. No, I do not have that turned on.
2. It only pops the toast if I am using both slots, otherwise I need to turn the toaster off and shake it upside down to get the toast out.
I really wanted to like this toaster. For almost $100, I would have thought it would have done its single task in life quite nicely. But it failed.
I apologize to anyone that buys this as an open box return. I'll try to get the crumbs out.

I bought this after reading America's Test Kitchen review and have been extremely disappointed. I've tried many types of bread and always get the same result! The bread will be burnt around the crust and the inner surface will not even be browned. If I put in down so that the inner surface is toasted then I'm scraping all of the burnt crust with crumbs flying everywhere and the kitchen smelling like burned toast. I bought the extended warranty so I'm going to return it and try another.

Toaster started out good, but after 2 months it will not eject toast properly and the mechanism is crooked inside. I would not recommend based on my 2-3 month experience.

I don’t think I’ve loved a toaster more than this one. It was awesome! You knew when your toast was about to pop. Always toasted things perfectly.... then exactly one year later to the date... it stopped working. RIP little guy

Excellent toaster, for only a year. Worked flawlessly, then at exactly 1 year to the day... won't toast on one side of bread..have to do the toast flip routine. Read reviews on big online..same issue. Consumer Reports you lied! Very nice function and sturdy but what is point if it doesn't do what you bought it to do....TOAST. So this is now Toast.
This was used only occasionally for Sunday breakfasts, Two slices,,, or maybe a bagel. Sad.

If I could give this toaster a minus star rating, I would. This is hands down the worst toaster I’ve ever experienced and also the most expensive. It barely toasts one side of the bread on the highest setting, then needs the bread flipped and go another half cycle. Results? Slightly toasted bread. Even with contact from Breville customer support and following their advice, it still doesn’t work even close to the cheapest toaster I’ve ever owned. Don’t make the same mistake as me and purchase it. Hoping Breville stands behind their warranty.

Not sure this toaster is worth the price. Darkness lever is very sensitive and can burn your toast with just the slightest change of the lever. The "A Bit More" button is a waste too. Cheaper toasters probably do a better job than this one.

Actually returned it-it didn’t cook evenly and no matter where it was set it either burnt the toast or didn’t cook it enough -expected more for a$100 toaster!

Last toaster (another brand) lasted only 5 months, so I decided to spend more money for a better Brand toaster. They say, you get what you pay for. Not this time. I bought this toaster and it didn't want to stay on. The lever would keep popping up. I returned it for a refund. I will not buy pop up toasters anymore. They all break down it a short period of time, that's why they offer extended warranties.
