Very good wifi printer. No problems setting up. Very easy to print to without having to be physically plugged into the printer.

I love this printer for the quality and quickness. Wireless set up was very simple. I was up and running in a few minutes. Prints clean and colors are vibrant. I do a lot of printing for my Tupperware business and an inkjet wasnt working well. The only downfall is the size. This is a big printer and quite heavy. It's also a bit noisy when it comes on to print. But it goes back to sleep right after its done its work. The best part is I only paid $4 for this after my rewards credits!

    Small business budget printer

We purchased this printer for our club's secretary, it wasn't on sale then $270 a second set of High Yield toner cartridges and two years later it is still going strong. This printer is a good value for a small business starting out, or one needing a color laser printer to fit their budget. With over 500 members and several mailings a year (with no complaints from our secretary) we recently purchased a second Brother Hl-3170cdw Color Laser Printer. TOP HIGHLIGHTS 600 x 2400 dpi 23 ppm Black & Color Duplex printing (auto flip) * We love this feature!* Wi-Fi, Ethernet, AirPrint, Cloud Print

    Good printer

Good laser printer so far. Automatic double sided printing, you just have to search deep in the settings. I was searching for an all-in-one (which this is NOT), and this came up in my search. Bought it, not double checking that it wasn't what I was searching for (my fault entirely). Just glad I still have an all-in-one inkjet sitting here for copying and scanning. Too much trouble to return after I've used it a couple of times. AND the price went down $20.00 after I received it.

    Very disappointed

I mainly wanted a printer to print good photos. But also to print the random documents here and there such as return labels and whatnot. But I don't use it very often at all. My HP I got a few years ago, the ink just would not last. It would dry out before I had the chance to use it all. A waste of money. Pretty much had to buy new ink every time I wanted to print something. So I got this laser printer because I was told the ink would not dry out. I haven't even had it 24 hours and its going back tomorrow. First, the set up was a major headache. I did exactly what the instructions said. Took me an hour at least to finally get the thing connected. actually had to make my SSID visible. I have it hidden. Once I did that it finally stayed connected. But then I started printing photos of my baby girl to test it out. They were HORRIBLE!!! My HP did a better job. At least with the smaller photos. If all I needed this thing for was to print documents and text then this would be a great printer. But my main reason for it was photos. Not happy at all. Funny though. My husband's computer (a gaming pc laptop) printed a little better photos than my Macbook Pro. Weird. Really wish this would have been what I was looking for. I was worried about buying a Brother product, due to the fact I had a sewing machine couple years ago from Brother and it was, lets just say, a complete piece of junk... Tossed it in the trash. Guess Brother just isn't the brand for me.

Color looks good. Prints fairly quickly. AirPrint and Cloud Print capable. The only issue I have had is with deep sleep. When it went to sleep, it was out until you physically pressed a button. I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot or research so I'm not holding this issue against it... yet.

    Great for medium volume printing

Not good for high volume printing and the ink is expensive unless you buy generic. Prints good quality but had some issues with glossy paper getting jammed. Better to use manual feed tray for glossy.

This printer is great. We own a travel agency and this printer is used constantly on a daily basis. Setup was easy and I was able to print within a few minutes. Toners are easy to replace and they are decently priced.

With a deadline looming I needed a color laser printer quick! After my good experience with b&w Brother printers and reading reviews I bought this color laser printer off the shelf at my local Best Buy store. Worked great and even printed thicker labels through the regular paper tray. Only 4 stars because other reviews say this printer counts pages, not ink levels so when you get a "replace cartridge" alert you will want to look in reviews to find a work around and make the printer think you have changed the cartridge.

Great color printer for home use

The color rendition is OK but not GREAT, something to expect for the price, however picture definition on print outs is poor even using the advanced settings as suggested. However we like we can send print outs from our IOS devices easily without having the printer attached to the PC.

    Good when it works!

Probably the worst printer I've ever owned. Every morning I find that it's offline and I end up spending an hour trying to make it work although on rare occasions turning the router off and back on helps. If Microsoft has an update it requires a complete setup all over again. The Brother Utilities program is of no help and the Microsoft help program is not much better. I'd actually rate this printer as "1" except that on the rare instances that it does work, it is very acceptable. Colors are a bit washed out even though I've pushed the color adjustment to maximum density. I borrowed an Epson CD printer for the color needs. In the meantime, setting a few dollars aside every week to buy a printer that I can rely on.

    NOT for Wi-fi

This may be a great printer connected to your machine, but it's Wi-Fi connection stinks! I reset and re-connected this thing 30 times. It says it connected - but nothing on the network could see it. Then I spent 3 hours in Chat with Brother Tech Spt, still no luck. I got it to print 1 page, and then back to not found. Finally it turned itself off, and didn't want to power back up. Sending back, and getting HP m452dn.

    Huge Disappointment..

It saddens me to write this review. I'm a long time cheerleader for Brother laser printers, from the perspective of value and unwavering linux support. So when I wanted the convenience of a color laser printer at home, I took the bait here. While prior to doing so I'd read reviews which called out the mediocre image performance of this machine, I found it to more accurately be a complete disaster. I'm not sure why you'd even want to look at a color JPEG burped out by this thing as the image resolution and solid area fill artifacts are horrific even in fine image mode. Horrific! Unfortunately even the black text image dithering is quite rough as well. So I can't even think of a reason not to usher this sad puppy back to BB. At considerably less than $200 and downright cheap aftermarket toner refills, it is compelling from an economic perspective. But if the printer doesn't live up to its only purpose in life, the proposition just doesn't pan out. About the only scenario where this degree of compromise might be justified is for someone who needs a color laser printer really bad, here is your really bad color printer.

    Do not purchase

I purchased two of these printers. One stopped working after 750 pages. Replaced toner because that is what the machine said to do. Didn't fix problem. Contacted tech support and wasted 100+ pages and 2 hours with no help. All they said is that they will send me to one of their service centers where I will have to pay for all repairs. Brother will do nothing to fix or repair the machine. Total cost per page ~$0.60 after all of my expenses for purchase of the printer and new toner. The second machine was used to only print labels. Does a really poor job of this as the toner always bleeds onto the second half of the page, wasting half of the expensive labels. Cleaned, talked with customer support, tried multiple different labels, still same problem. Because of the way that brother has treated me, I will never buy another product from them.

I had a 4140 model before and liked it tremendously. The 3170 has been a big let down. Cannot print cardstock and has had printing issues with black ink since I bought it. Very aggrevating.

Absolutely the worst printer I have ever used...

This printer has been a major disappointment and frustration. Not only it misfeeds constantly, it tells me there is a jam when there is not. Print is always shifted and it is unpredictable how it shifts. I purchased this printer for labels and this shifting has made me waste quite a few expensive label sheets and expensive ink cartridges. Returning it today.

    After using...Not good at all!

Used a few months. It was OK...Color was never great. The yellow started to bleed into everything 6 months into installing new, genuine Brother cartridges. Brother Customer Service was no help, and blamed on cartridges. The black and white Brother printers we have been fine, but I would not buy a color printer from Brother again.

I purchased this printer new from Best Buy online. After setup and printing the first test page, the printer fails to operate, indicating "Print Unable 0A" error. Tried all remedies from customer support, and nothing worked. Now stuck with the trials and tribulations of customer support. I wish I had not made this purchase.
