I've had this printer for about 1 month. I've used it several times for both printing and scanning and have had great results. I noticed other reviews stating text printing was "ok". I don't know if maybe they were using cheap paper or what, but the printing I've done is crisp and clear. Color is vibrant, with sharp lines. It's a little more expensive than printers with the same features but with the amount of pages you can get from each print cartridge, I would say the extra money is well spent. Setup is pretty straightforward, although connecting to my wireless router was a little confusing but then again so was my previous HP printer.
I love the double sided print feature along with the small footprint. Considerably smaller than my old hp.

My old HP Photosmart Plus B210 had print quality issues. It wouldn't print reliably anymore. To correct the print quality issues you just wasted the ink and this needed to be done quite frequently which also was frustrating. With the Brother MFC-J985DW I have not had any issues with printing or print quality. It prints great! I have had it about a month and the ink levels are still full!
One of the great features is double sided printing. My old HP could not automatically print double sided like the Brother can. It is truly a multi-function printer as it can also be set up as a Fax machine. I have only used it for printing and scanning. The scanner also has a document feeder which my HP did not.
Great printer so far!

This printer meets my expectations. Easy to set up, I like that you can print on two sides to save paper and that I can print from my iPad, mobile phone, and my laptop.

I bought this printer because my last printer got to the point of jamming when feeding the paper stock in. This printer has worked great so far. The wireless is easy and the prints come out nice and clear!

I have been a long time HP printer customer. My last HP printer finally reached the point where I was having to reset too many things every time paper or ink cartridges jammed plus the ink was now costing $100 a pop. I looked online and found this Brother printer. It does everything I wanted except for two-sided copying automatically. I have to say that I am totally happy with this purchase. It was super easy to set up. It has a great iPhone app and prints and scans effortlessly. I am so happy I made the switch and very happy with this printer. I strongly recommend.

We bought this printer for our daughter. We had bought her one of a different manufacturer a few years ago, but whenever it needed ink, it cost a lot. And the functionality of it wasn't all that great.
After looking at reviews, we decided to buy her this one since it appears to cost less to keep in ink. It certainly seems to do that. And as a bonus, it works well. Now, she hasn't printed any photos, and I doubt that the printer could keep up with a photo printer. However, it prints color and black & white well, and seems to have reasonably-priced supplies. When MY printer starts giving me trouble, I plan to get one like this!

This printer was very easy to setup and use. It was recommended by store associate and the best part about it is the ink usage. Shouldn't have to be changed for about 1year. Great purchase!

i purchased the Brother J985DW because the reviews I read marveled at the long life of the ink cartridges. They were not lying. i own a small business, and use this printer . since i purchased in October 2016, i have changed ink once. Once. i use the printer for mostly documents i write, and for printing other documents. Extraordinary Ink life. excellent print quality. scannning and printing from cloud are easy to use and pretty quick. Copying is a loser, slow slow slow. So scan and then print 10 copies.! but don't copy.

I usually only use black ink and was looking for a printer that had ability to print from media, this is the only one. If you go to black laser, you don't get ability to print from media (like a flash or jump drive), or to scan to a flash or jump drive. My last one, the jets eventually clogged after about 2 yeRs. . But I have decided to live with that , and now know not to clean repeatedly- check out clogged ink jet internet posts for hints on how to make them last longer, but for me the flash/jump Drive port is the clincher. Super easy to set up. And once set up it doesn't lose it's wifi connection.

Very good phone app which I prefer even over the product interface itself. Seems to not use excess ink. It is a bit noisy.
