I thought it was time for a change from ink cartridges to toner cartridges. I didn’t need picture perfect quality, but I wanted to be able to print many pages with color consistency for projects or homework. I did some research online for printers and debated for a few days about whether I wanted a monochrome (black ink only) or a colored printer. I settled on the Brother brand, which my sewing machine may have swayed my preference a little. I had owned a couple HP inkjet printers (color) and a Lexmark LaserJet printer (black only) before buying the MFC-9130CW. Before I bought it, I remember asking the Best Buy salesman about the issue of running out of toner for the colors (yellow, cyan, and magenta), and if I was going to be able to use black ink only. That was my biggest concern. The answer he gave me was yes as long as I leave the toners in their respective slots. Well, I have finally ran out of my colors, and I am still able to print in black when I choose the monochrome option. When I choose color/auto, I am not able to print (that may be my settings or it may be how the printer operates). I always connect my printer wirelessly since I print from my laptop, my iPhone, and my iPad. I use the WPS option every time to connect to the wireless and the setup is easy. I have installed Brother’s iPrint&Scan app on my phone which I use to print my OneDrive documents and downloaded documents. I think if I were to buy another printer, I would still stick with Brother and get the duplex printing or advance duplex options. I would like to be able to print double sided automatically to save paper and be able to scan double sided. The reason I didn’t buy the printer with the duplex option was because the printer was more expensive and I wanted to stay in a certain price bracket. I am very satisfied with the MFC-9130CW printer that I have now because every page that I have printed for work or for school have met my expectations. I don’t see any smears or fading ink like I usually do when it comes to having ink cartridges. Maybe ink cartridges are better now and days, but I won’t go back. When I bought this printer in Washington state, I paid $249.99 before taxes in December 2014 (after sale discount and price match). I was happy with the price I paid.

The initial set up is complex and also there is no cord provided with printer where as it is very much required for initial setup. Need to download an app to make it work for apple products

I am an official Brother product user, old hp user, and I love their products. The set up was somewhat easy, the wireless connection took most of the time. Prints decent color pictures, however, I constantly have a black line at the bottom of every page.

Printer started having issues a little after 1 year. Used all genuine toner. First page would print great, then next page would fade, then next page would be blank. Contacted brother support and it's a known issue, however, they won't cover the cost of fixing because it's outside of a year. Seems ridiculous given it's a known issue. I have a few other Brother printers at my office, and they all seem to have issues. Not as good as they used to be.

Works on WiFi only and wouldn't stay connected to network for any computer to recognize. Returned the item.

This all in one is fine copying and printing, but the scan feature has issues. I had it working when working wireless, but that did not last long. I scan a lot and had to resort to a wired connection and even then I could not get the Brother software for scanning to function, so I now use another program to scan. I switched from an HP because of scanning issues and now I am back in the same boat.

I may actually return this printer as trying to setup the wireless option has been impossible! Should not be a challenge to do this in 2018! Printer seems to be built well!

Printer is compact, but will not print if one of the 5 ink cartridges is empty. Yep...that means no black and white printing if magenta is out.

Miss some of the features my inkjet printer had like photo tray and double sided printing but tired of constantly replacing ink cartridges. Toners last longer
