I liked that they use four individual ink cartridges versus the other brands' single multi-color - more cost effective. But this new printer's color quality is poor compared to my old one when printing photos - the colors just don't match and adjusting settings doesn't help. I paid full price $100 after waiting for a sale to replace my old one.

Good functional printer

This resulted in the ink absorber becoming full and still the colors were not printing correctly. This new printer was very easy to set up and has been printing very well in both black and white and color and I believe the ink will be less costly than with the canon.

I have used several wifi printers and always struggled to set-up wifi connectivity, however wifi set-up for this printer was a breeze.

It's discovered right away by Apple devices, so printing from iPads and iPhones is really simple. This was my first time installing a printer in a metal container, and so I didn't take into consideration the temperature. During the morning meetings we're unable to print to it due to the low temperature. Other than that it works like a champ.

The print quality is ok-ish but I'm using off-brand ink so idk if that causes an issue. It never did with my old printer.

Posted .Brother recommends that customers don't use generic ink cartridges or refill their Brother ink cartridges. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality, and machine reliability since the ink formulation in genuine Brother ink cartridges prevents smearing and clogging of the print head. The Brother limited warranty doesn't apply to any problem caused by the use of unauthorized third party ink and/or cartridges.
The Brother MFCJ1010DW is designed to work with ink of a particular specification and will work to a level of optimum performance when used with genuine Brother branded ink cartridges. Brother can't guarantee this optimum performance if the ink or ink cartridges of other specifications are used. Brother doesn't, therefore, recommended the use of cartridges other than genuine Brother branded cartridges with this machine or the refilling of empty cartridges.
If damage is caused to the print head or other parts of the machine as a result of using incompatible products with the machine, any repairs required as a result may not be covered by warranty.
Very Poor Wireless Reception + Functionality

Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.In order to use this printer wirelessly it needs to be within 2 feet of the router, so this is not in the same room as my computer. It has proprietary software that has to be used to scan, even though there is a scan button on the All-in-One. To scan a multiple page two sided document you place paper on scanner, go to computer click scan, go back to All-in-One and flip the paper over, go back to computer click scan, go back to scanner for the next page more of the same..... This will not work wirelessly without the proprietary software. I actually called Brother to confirm the processes, and questioned the claim that you could scan from All-in-One or computer, that is only if the computer is attached to All-in-One with a USB cable. I think there might be an app you can use from your phone, also not advertised. I expect better than this from Brother.
