    Impressed!

I have to admit that I am very impressed with this printer. Having used Canon & Epson printers in the past, this is my first one by Brother. Set up was very easy on my Mac. All the features you could need. Built just as good as printers I have had costing three times as much. Ink last just as long as other brands. Ink is cheaper than it was for my last printer (Canon). From looking at the previous reviews, I see two common complaints. Speed & not being able to print even in b&w if one color runs out. As for the speed, I will admit it is no speed demon. However, it's not that horrible and should be fine for most people for home use (even for photo printing). As for the ink issue, well, I don't know what rock people have been living under because not even being able to print in b&w when a color runs out is par for the course. Every printer I have ever had from Canon or Epson has worked the same way. Anyways, this Brother printer/scanner (scanner works great as well) and fax (sorry, haven't used that part. Who still sends a fax??) is a great value. And if you catch it on sale like I did it is an even better deal!

Great printer that does not require much upkeep besides ink which is relatively cheap compared to other printed brands like canon. Wireless capabilities make it very convenient to use. It's a Good buy!

    Good if a little slow.

My first impressions is that this printer is a bit on the slow side, however it is really nice to have double-sided printing. This saves me a lot of paper. The printer is a little on the large side, but I appreciate all that it can do. This is more of a business style printer and even has a fax machine built in. I loved the fact I set this printer up on the wireless network without hooking it to a computer first. Pros: Double-sided printing; Don't have to hook to a computer for initial setup; Paper tray that keeps paper internal to printer and not exposed; sharp text and small graphics that I have tested; LCD displays ink levels; cheap ink Cons: a bit bulky (larger than my old HP); a bit slow if you are in a hurry; Software is clunky and not required outside of scanning. Other: USB port is in weird place, but who still uses that?

    Great Brother All-In-One Printer!

So far, I have been very happy with this printer. It replaced an 8-year old Brother MFC that finally gave out. The wireless feature is new to me and I love it. Our IOS devices recognized it immediately and it is so convenient to be able to print from my iPhone/iPad. No set-up or IOS app is required! I have also printed wirelessly from my laptop and it was just as simple to do that. For what i paid for this machine, I can't believe all of the features it has. I also like the new Control Center 4 program. It makes scanning a breeze and after scanning, you have many options for what to do with the document (where to save, open with an application, send via e-mail, etc.). Highly recommended!

After years of buying HP printers I'm a now a true convert to Brother. My last HP printer died after a year. This printer was also much easier to set up and I've had no issues at all. Great printer for the price.

    Brother All in One

this is my second Brother all-in-one printer. it is a good quality printer and for $49 it is one of the best choices you get. the reason i bought it over the other brand is because i used it before and the generic ink on ebay is cheap. so just use the the generic and you will be fine.

I own the older model MFC-J475DW and that works beautifully and ink lasts a long time and cheap to replace. I know others that own the new MFC-J485DW and have had the same results as the older model I own. I picked this one up for my daughter since she has move out of the house.

Retired my old Brother laser all in one after 12 solid yrs no problems , decided to upgrade to wireless and why not stay with Brother? love the design, simple, compact. Setup was simple. Lovin the wireless printing! I have a small house, no home office, and placed the printer in a central location in the house instead of in my bedroom where my kids would go everytime they needed to print so everyone has easy access now and theyre out of my room now lol. Thumbs up again Brother!

I went with this printer because Brother is a trusted name in printers for years. Three months in and this is still a purchase I would make again and again. It great on ink and even better on recyclable ink cartridges.

Happy with the print quality and printing speed. It's at least as good as the Canon MP5220 & 5200 I had before. Set up on my Windows 10 laptop was done in minutes while I had to talk to tech support for 30 min to set up wireless printing on my Mac.

    Amazing Printer

I bought this printer to make wedding invitations and it worked amazing! I can’t say enough good things about this printer. It was easy to connect, instructions were easy to follow, one con is I got a few paper jams but in the printers defense I was printing 100 times with in an hour. This printer has everything you need and works amazing.

    Don't Waste Your Money

I bought this back in May 2017 for a much higher price. Wish I had never seen this poor excuse for a printer. I bought it because of the glowing reviews I had read online emphasizing the savings on ink. Can't really say if this printer helps on ink costs since I don't print that much, but I can say that the printer itself is very disappointing. For instance, I never know when I turn it on whether or not I'm going to have to pull out all 4 cartridges and reinstall them because of an error message. The printer itself and the paper tray are made out of thin plastic--the quality is so far removed from that of my previous HP printer. It doesn't even print correctly. I just tried to print some Excel worksheets, and even though I had it set to print on both sides of the paper, it repeatedly printed just on one side (and, yes, my settings were correct). I truly wish I had never seen this piece of junk. Oh, and customer service with Brother? What a joke. The price Best Buy has it at now is all it's worth (actually should be less). Don't buy this!

After years of other brands I thought it was time to try a brother. it is made heavy and performs well wirelessly. Caught it on a 24hr sale and couldn't pass it up. Price of ink is also a value ! Time will tell

This is a neat little machine, does a decent job of print quality. Just wished it was slightly faster though but I guess it has the speed that you pay for an inkjet.

    Terrible printer...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First let me start by saying I know a thing or two about printers and computers and how to fix them/get them to work. (CompTIA A+ certified IT tech). It could just be poor quality of production but my printer refuses to print 2 sided which the specs says it can do. Every time I try it gets jammed and I have to spend some time figuring out which way it wants me to remove it that time. Also prints unnecessarily loud and aggressively and takes way longer than it should to spool the page before printing (not sure if this is the same USB, however have tested this with another printer and not had this problem using same pc and wifi). Maybe for some this will be okay however I'm just going to return this and go buy an HP like I should have the first time around. Don't waste your time, get a 5540 or something and call it a day. This is not worth the hassle.
